Such a genuine person on top of being an amazing teacher. I loved the lines “hmm I hope it’s called oh Susanna..” and “I think we need to find better songs..” hahaha. So wholesome

Hi Jason. I can't tell you how many youtube videos I have watched regarding left hand patterns which i believed is the foundation to playing lead sheets. I have been playing blocks for many months now and really enjoyed it since I am a beginner adult learner. But now, I want to go beyond with broken choirs and Arpeggiates and your videos really makes senses. for example you talked about how the left hand is constant and need not be related to the right hand. You said to go with feeling rather than hitting at a certain time. I have been struggling to understand the broken choir independence and been trying so many ways to implement that to my playing. You are doing a great job in bridging me to the next level. In going forward, can you do more of these videos, and perhaps applying to some leads sheets with various left hands. Truly appreciated.
You just made me realize why I suck on the piano 🎹😞 I am totally using the chords functions wrong that's why when I create a Melody line it doesn't harmonically sound correct a lot of clashing and muddy. (I wasn't using dominant chords🤔😱😬) I can't thank you enough for your content thank you so very much Jason 👊
Dear Jason, This is the first time I am watching you on youtube and I really love the way you teach, guide, engage and involve your viewers in unusual way. Your way of teaching is just as simple and mature as you. I would like to hear more from you and if possible then please guide me how to proceed with the keyboard learning. Thanks

Many of the old Hindi songs rhyme in my mind ,for which I was wondering how they made the beats . Now that becomes clear. And nursary rhymes are beautiful lessons to the music beginners too. Thanks again. When I came to this now, after few days it sounds more telling.
You are amazing! Thank you so much for your generosity! I wish that I could afford to take lessons from you! You'd be worth every cent! God bless you for sharing your knowledge! I'm going to support your channel on Patreon. It's the least I can do to repay you.
I'm sixty and a big fan of Mozart music, is extrange perhaps, but your playing remember me Mozart style! When i was young here in Madrid all the people were singing everywhere everytime, they all were poor but happy people! Today we are "rich" but not too much happy people. I think today in India a lot of people are poor but happy...... To be or to have, that is the cuestión ! Saludos desde España, y en hora buena por tu trabajo!

Sir: Thank you much for the privilege of your time with someone like me. I am a disabled veteran and I am trying to learn the piano with the resources I have. I decided to go ahead and ask you if it would be possible, for only one time, only to email me the "tutorial of 4 left hand piano chord patterns for beginners to accompany a melody on the Piano" for this lesson." Either way thank you and I do hope I will receive it just this once. Best,
Sir: thank you for your kindness, as you suggested please email the "tutorial of 4 left hand piano chord patterns for beginners to accompany a melody on the Piano" to the following email: dehiscee@gmail.com With gratitude, R
Hi Jason - Perfect! I watched your right-hand chord tutorial yesterday n I was hoping for the left-hand version n here it is. I fractured my right shoulder last week so now I have the opportunity to become proficient as a lefty ; ) Rock on.........
Thank you, I will Sampath! Glad it was helpful! And here's another one which we have done right after. Hope you find this useful as well. Come learn! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MjkwbSe5Xuc.html
Sure Kritika. During the lockdown, Jason is also doing a bunch of 1 month course on Piano accompaniment and other things related to Music theory and composition! Will look forward to your participation. You could write to us at music@nathanielschool.com
Thanks a lot I’ve found this very straight forward and helpful. You also mentioned about improvise the melody for long notes to make it sound nicer, have you had this clip yet?
Didn't understand what you were asking to learn specifically Joseph. Was this this list of lessons: ru-vid.com/group/PLrNNL05e9FT9Rh70I2dDIdR4eLNvMVFX0
Sir, I am unable to get your description for your valuable notes. Please guide as I am a senior citizen but very much interested in your piano music classes.
I am a regular viewer of your piano classes. Please clarify- while playing modern left hand 1-5-8 pattern, how I follow the rules of parallel fifth and parallel octave in similar/contrary motion as well as unison to octave and octave to unison for consecutive chords which are forbidden in Western classical music.
Impossible to type this solution in comments. We do this with real world material and a variety of my own musical examples to explain this. Will try and compress this in a RU-vid video soon. But it's recommended that you consider one of our virtual courses Chandan!
Very interesting patterns. I will try all. I am more to Gospel Music. Please help me to apply these patterns to one of the gospel song please. I really thankful to your teaching
I've always thought that the dominant chord of a key was built from the fifth degree of the scale, in g major this would be D, F# & A. You are playing D, F# & C as the dominant, I'm a little confused on this, any help would be much appreciated. Great lesson btw
There may be quite a few dominant chords Mark! This might be a good Theory discussion which I can do over a video. However, for the dominant function, you can use V major vii diminished V7 (Dominant 7th) In this video, I've just written the V chord using the scale degrees
Excellent following you from two years but now started learning and understanding something.wish that if you take hindi songs for teaching we may understand it better. (If possible )
Noted Devidas. Planning this. But we already have quite a few Bollywood/Hindi songs which I have taught. Check here: ru-vid.com/group/PLrNNL05e9FT8p1CjTT2NpDZB0pmOAv1TA
This is the most helpful video I've found, you do such a good job at explaining and showing this and even after such a huge help I still can not do it. I play really nice and easily with my right hand, I play fine with my left thumb and index finger but I don't have good control over the other 3. Anyway I somehow can make it but it's impossible for me to play indepedent melodies with my hands silmutaneously. I ruin both, I ruin completely their rythms. My brain can not understand anything that moment. I've been practicing one hour per day for almost a week and I can not hit even that first one note correctly 😢. I'm not talented at all, I'll keep practicing for one more week and if I still won't be able to hit one or 2 notes I will give up.It feels embarassing not being able to hit at least one damn note
Maybe this video could also help you. It's part of the series. See if you get things going with this - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-REOm6iNSTIs.html
Very much thrilled to watch this video.. Equally anxious to know whether G sub dominant chord could be resolved as C Major CHORD Iverson form GCE et al??
@@nathanielschool Very kind of you to go thru my inexperienced doubt!!..Yes from video I learnt that 3 CHORDS were introduced in G Major scale viz., Tonic GBD, Dominant F#CD and sub-dominant GCE. All these pertains to G scale is affirmative. And my doubt being G sub-dominant is nothing but C Major CHORD inversion GCE though identified with G scale. This pattern works out to all sub dominant Major chords.! It's still intriguing me.... Is it because G and C chords are relative??

Hi Zac, I am student of keyboard. How does a keyboard different from a piano. Earlier piano was a huge instrument to carry. Now that piano has become a bit handy. Even when u play a piano it sounds a little different from the keyboard.
This is a rather deep question! You should watch this video of ours for the explanation: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P6xU9PGegag.html
Hi I'm a bit new to playing piano. I am a bit confused with the dominant and sub dominant chords you used because I usually form chords in a 1, 3rd and 5th pattern to create either a major or minor chord. Could you clarify the exact names of the dominant and sub dominant chords you used in the video meaning is it a D major, E major or something else ? Thanks.
You'll need to watch our other Theory lessons Ed. This will cover the subject in great detail. Please start here: www.nathanielschool.com/free-lessons/tags/music-theory
Thanks a lot sir.I have a doubt…..Is it necessary to play a song in the same scale in which it is originally composed say can we play Bb song in say Em. Another doubt is what is difference between Pattern ,Arpeggio and counter melody? Thanks
Most welcome & not necessarily Sarita! Your questions need a few lessons at our school. Perhaps you can fill up a form on our website and reach our course advisor : www.nathanielschool.com.
I recently subscribed to your channel. I am learning (slowly :-) but really enjoy your excellent lessons. Question: the on-screen keyboard with the blue keys is some kind of software? Cool!
Hi Kuldeep. We are based in Bangalore, India. All our courses and lessons happen virtually online. You can write to music@nathanielschool.com along with your contact details and our course advisor will reach you at the earliest. Thanks for your interest in learning music with Nathaniel!
Jason, how does one determine the embellishing notes when changing from one chord to another? You use quite a bit of this technique in this lesson and in others.
Are you self learnt????if yes how did you learn all theory n stuff saw u giving lesson on 72 carnatic ragas also.....please also recommend some book that helped u to understand music.
Pretty much self learnt Kevin. I'm grateful to my family who are very musical as well as my band mates who I've jammed and composed with over the past 20+ years!

Hi SIr I have been watching your videos. I just began to learn. Tell me very easiest model combination of both hand. I tried lot not able to use both hands highly dissapointed. Need support I am feeling where I am going to loose interest.
Jason....In minute 5,34. do not understand .. the dominant or V chord in the key of Gmajor,. is D, F#, A?.. why do you say is 7, 4, 5? A chord can not have two notes together, that would be a sus 2 or sus 4... I do not understand what are you talking about.. ...You should say D, F#, A or in numbers. ,5. 7, 2 (or 9),...but never 7,4,5 as you say.. to my understanding
The reason I call it a dominant chord is because it's a V7 going to the Tonic. 745 is just a jumbled way of playing the 5 chord with better voice leading perhaps
