Thank you four videos. I will book test drives in both as soon as they become available here. I might get one before the end of the year so I will keep watching.

Hey Alex, fantastic. Thanks so much for the comment. It's great to see people really looking at these vehicles because they're really fantastic. So glad that I could help. Feel free to ask anything if you ever want to. :) Thanks mate

The MG4 Luxury with NMC battery charges at up to 140kW though.

Here in NZ MG4 51 Excite is $3,000 cheaper, charges faster, accelerates fasts, goes longer, handles better, service costs much cheaper. Basically there is no comparison. BYD have FU here in NZ with their dealers taking to much profit. Dolphin with ORC over $51,000.

I bought a MG4 over the Dolphin as I didn’t like the front wheel drive on the Dolphin spinning when wet! I preferred the rear wheel drive of the MG4 as it was so much easier to control.

To me the BYD is better value for money, you get more equipment and i like how they have keep the same equipment levels for all versions, so the only need to choose your motor and battery size. I do like how the MG 4 is RWD and has focused on driving experience.

Hi Tim, great point, I think you are saying what a lot of people are thinking actually. Both are fantastic cars, and I can say this from having been in both. So maybe it's down to personal preference I suppose. I have noticed in the UK, a lot of people are quite keen to say how good the MG4 is to drive. I do miss a good British B road I must say.

Hi Alex. I like the byd but went for the mg4. The positives and negatives of each balance each other out but for me the decision was made on handling. The MG is a better drivers car in my humble opinion. The balance for a cheap car is commendable, 50%50%, the aim of every seious sports car designer, it pushes you out of corners instead of pulling you out, the suspension just works suprisingly well and here in N.Z they shod it with good quality continental rubber. I also agree the mg feels bigger inside. Another two inches can make all the difference after all it seems.

Hey Peter, that's great. Let me know how you get on with it when it comes. I'm not sure if you heard me say some of this, but people are quite often saying the same things as you. It's a very nice drive. The interior feels premium to me. Maybe I have low standards, but it feels like a very nice place to be. I'm sure you will be happy with it :)

Over Easter all the public chargers I found locally and up at Kyneton with a hired ATTO 3 were 50kWh. I have an ATTO 3 on order but have a MG dealer one suburb away. The MG4s (seen at Fully Electric Sydney) look great. Question is whether you go for the 51kWh (350km range) LFP battery chargeable to 100%. Or take the next step to the 64kWh and only charge this to 80% around town. And charge it to 100% if hitting the road for a road trip. The BYDs are colourful and quirky, fully featured. The MG4 has better distribution and a more stylish, sober interior. Found the ATTO 3 a squeeze in my garage, perhaps a Dolphin will be a better size. The problem with all these EVs not yet here is it’s not like you can go in and see one at a dealer, buying one is a poke in the dark. Enjoyed by Easter ATTO 3 rental, I think renting prior to purchase is a pretty good idea. To me the choice comes down do you put a deposit down now, qualify for the Govt rebate or wait to make a more well rounded judgment and pay less attention to rebates, about to disappear in VIC. By later in the year probably the Seal and the AWD MG4 will be for sale?

Hi there, thanks for the very interesting comment. You make some fantastic points. I wonder what other people think too. The Dolphin is definitely a smaller car, but very sufficient to do all the normal things people will want to do in a city. But it does feel a little smaller inside and out than the Atto 3. The MG4 appears to have a few software glitches that owners seem to be happy to talk about. And the Dashboard material has an issue with the material sometimes bubbling up. But not very common. Lots of drivers still charge their EV'S TO 100%, and even leave them parked at 100%, unlike small devices such as laptops, robot vacuum cleaners etc, modern electric cars don't truly charge to 100%, it's more like 94% give or take a few percent. You seem well informed which is great. The LFP chemistry is much more happy to be sitting at full charge which is brilliant. And I think most people would say that's it's the preferred chemistry because of the extra safety. You are able to pay the deposit and claim that back if you decide to leave it. I'm a bit unsure if this will actually lock in your rebate which is a shame. Also, the stamp duty in Victoria is an extra $1000 or so. So it's a tough call. I wouldn't say that it's silly to hold off buying a car until maybe next year, perhaps more pressure will be places on the state government to bring back an incentive. I for one will be pushing for this to be brought back. Here in Queensland you can currently get $6000 rebate, but there is only enough money in the pot for about 7-8000 vehicles. So I imagine that they will run out by the end of the year. Just a guess though. I agree with everything that you say, it makes perfect sense, and I wouldn't want anybody buying a car without having really tried them out. Thanks for getting in touch. Please let me know what you go with. :)

@@TheChargeShow as someone who's picked up a mg 51kw with lfp i'll say the range definently seems fine, i came from a seat mii, in regards to the car itself i love my mg4, the car is fast enough and if you chuck it in sport it's really fun to drive and every time i accelerate it puits a small smile on my face, the big problem for me with the mg4 is the software, the LKA is literally dangerous and in the first 3 days i had the car it almost drove me off the road or into oncomming traffic 4 times, and those where the only times i felt the LKA at all, so i now have to disable it every time i start the car, other software bugs i've experienced is it turns off airbag2, autohold being disabled, it turns on or off sign recognition and LKA while i'm driving, sometimes the screen doesn't respond, and it forgets my phone even if none other has been connected, also it's supposed to always reset certain settings, but it only does it sometimes, my car has been booked for repairs so i'm hoping things gets fixed, though from what i've read the LKA won't change, it's just like that. personally i feel like having a dangerous LKA auto enable to get a higher ncap score seems self contradictory seeing as it literally makes the car more dangerous to drive with.
@YSA920
@YSA920 Год назад
@@frederikbrsted2535 The LKA is suspect on many of these cars, the ATTO 3 is the same. It’s ok on freeways and motorways. On B roads or Aussie backroads it can verge on dangerous. I went ahead and cancelled my ATTO 3 order, replacing it with a MG4 order.

@@YSA920 the mg4 nordic isn't trustworthy on any roads... it'll false positive when nothing is there and try to drive you into a ditch, or oncomming traffic, a large motor publication literally had theirs try to drive them into an oncomming bus. and even if you turn LKA off, it randomly comes on again from time to time mid drive, no alarm or and ping sound, just a small icon that changes colour. also the mg dealer i bought the car at says it's impossible to do a better job with the tires, the steering wheel jumps up/down about 1cm as soon as i hit motorway speeds, they've tried 3 times....

In the UK, the MG4 is cheaper. Both are good enough for my needs but I would like a more responsive steering, one pedal driving and more assisted safety measures

I'm waiting to see real-world extended UK road tests to see what the Dolphin is like. I'm sure the cars are made well, but not convinced by the quality of the software until there are long-term user reviews. So much of the Dolphin is reliant upon that large touchscreen, which makes me slightly nervous.

Hi Alex, Do you know what will be running cost to have mg4? And also services charges yearly cap right ?
@TheChargeShow
@TheChargeShow Год назад
That really depends on your state in Australia. But in Victoria the stamp duty to buy one is about $1000 or so more expensive when buying it brand new. Rego costs vary in different states too. But if you have any solar panels at home then this will dramatically alter the costs to run it. For example, a small ish solar panel install at home, such as a 5kW system, in Australia can make something like 200 kilometres per day in range if you put it all into your car. Hope that helps. Feel free to ask any questions.

An MG , try to charge one parked at the side of the road in Brussels.Wrong side. My decissionmaker is the fact the MG has no posisioning handels above the Doors. And Vtol must be activated from inside the car, a BYD one Just have to plug in. So I ordered a BYD Dolfin.

Are BYD and SAIC cars really as bad as Fiat (Fix It Again Tony)? Where is your justification for putting BYD / SAIC cars into such dreadful company.

Looks like the MG4 extended long range is around 325 mile range also uprated to 180kw motor 242hp,around 6.5sec to 60mph or thereabouts, now that's another level.

Yes that's fantastic. And they drive very very well, so that would be such a nice car to have as a daily driver.

I like the BYD cars but the dealer service requirement/cost etc is a turn off for me. They have over promised and under delivered since the initial press release years ago.

Hi James, thanks for the comment. You aren't the first person to say this which is interesting I think. People still seem to buy happy to buy them though, which tells me that people are very keen to have an electric car, even if they pay a bit extra in some other ways. But I would like to see more competition to bring down the prices that we're seeing at the bottom - middle of the market. In saying this though, I don't mean to say that these cars are cheap in how they feel or look, but just relatively speaking, they are at the cheaper end of the market. They actually feel positively fancy, and well put together machines.

Hi Alex, I have to drive every day hilly area or mountain is okey to consider EV. What’s average life of battery pls?
@TheChargeShow
@TheChargeShow Год назад
Hey mate, yes, this is absolutely no problem at all. You will have no problems with an EV living in a hilly environment. It will actually feel really powerful up the hills, so I'm sure you will be pleased if you got one. The battery in an Electric car is very well made, with very modern battery chemistry. They will outlast the life of the car. What I mean by that is that, you should not have to replace it at all. On modern electric vehicles the battery should still have almost the full capacity that it came with brand new - after 200,000 kilometres. I hope this helps you and feel free to ask any questions you may have :)

Ideal for hilly area as lots of power up hills and recharge downhill. You may want to consider whether you want front or rear wheel drive if you are driving uphill in icy conditions as EVs have a lot of power.
