Tbh, half of India's population is able to speak and understand in Hindi, and literally everyone in Maharashtra knows Hindi very very well.. This is not true for southern/north eastern states. Marathi and Hindi use the same Devanagari script, and we are taught and we watch Hindi cartoons and movies in Hindi/Marathi.. this is why we Marathi people know Hindi just as its our first/second language..
