With a very limited time for the interview, we go straight to the Lightning Round! 10 questions in 2 minutes, answered as quickly as possible. All of Nile' sass is clearly straight from Daniel...
What did Katherkne Hepburn mean when she said he should wait until he is 80 to be an actor?Did she mean that he was a bad actor or that it was difficult to make one's way in show business ?🤔 Cause he's such a good actor.
@Boomstick McNugget He sounds like a fancier version of my grandma who moved from the Ozarks to Indiana in her teens. Sounded Northern with Southern expressions!
Interesting tidbit: The producers of the Nanny were getting angry letters from fans about Charles Shaughnessy's "fake" accent and urged him to take lessons from Daniel Davis. Charles is a bonafide English Lord and Daniel is from Arkansas. 🤣
During the run of 'Magnum PI' , Johnathan Hillerman, who plays Higgins, received a letter from an English Lord calling him "a credit to the empire ". Johnathan Hillerman is from Denison,Texas.
I still don't hear much difference with the accent. Still sounds Niles to me. This interview was fun. I wish it was longer simply because it was a joy listening to him and his smile was beautiful. 😁
Daniel is more talented than that bc he is from Gurdon, Arkansas & one must work very hard to sound midwestern much less British! Lol! The “i’s” & twang are hard to overcome;)
The Nanny producers thought so too and during the casting process thought that Charles Shaugnessy (who is ACTUALLY British) was faking the accent and told him to go to Daniel for advice on how to sound more authentic 🤣🤣🤣
"You'd have to be dead six months to fit into it"!!!!!! When I first heard that line I fell off my seat from laughing, it cracked me up!!!!!😂 I thought it was THE BEST line I've ever heard from all of the episodes. My favorite as well. Kept playing it over and over again and still cracks me up😂😂. Daniel you're the BEST!!!!! You deserve to be a SIR!!!!! Peace and Love✌💝 from sunny🌅 Greece⛵💦
I like the one where he’s in the office and Mr Sheffield says: “Niles get that hideous thing off the terrace.”(CC is smoking on the terrace) Niles (to CC) Mr Sheffield wants you to get off the terrace” 😂
He DID appear once on a sci-fi show. Star Trek, The Next Generation, in an episode titled: Elementary, Dear Data. (I had to look it up) He played Professor Moriarty, from the Sherlock Holmes stories. I'm not a Trekkie, but he was so good it stuck with me.
Speaking of Moriarty from ST:TNG, it would be amazing if ST:Picard brought back the character. Maybe transfer Moriarty's consciousness into an android body like they did with Jean-Luc. It could be Danial's big break into sci-fi work.
He really has a future as a VOICE NARRATOR. That is NOT a hit against him in the slightest. His voice is PERFECT and he can be much more comfortable and of course voice actors can make big bank, with arguably even more opportunities, as you can animate however you wish (the Simpsons cast make $1 Mil per episode) Edit: particularly his British accent
Just look how Daniels behavior changes. At first, he was reserved and acted and spoke like Niles but as the questions went on, he relaxed and started to speak in his natural voice. Gotta love the guy.
Davis is such a great actor. He was hilarious as Niles in 'The Nanny'. He also had a guest role in the TV series 'MacGyver' where he played a member of a underworld criminal ring. He was such and evil and depraved character in that. He even had the same accent which added to his diabolical role. He proved what a versatile actor he was in that. I'd like to find other roles he was in. Thanks for posting this.
Oh he's a still good looking as ever and I would love to see him on something like Battlestar Galactica I'm just love to see him on anything else I adore him as an actor
I was today years old when I found out that my favorite TV Butler isn’t really British!!! Watching this interview, it’s like he’s really British trying out an American accent.....
Amazing. I know this wonderful actor from Star Trek TNG. His cut glass English accent in that is so convincing that I am in absolute awe. The Nanny didn't make it across the Atlantic though.
Out of all the many episodes of The Nanny, for some reason Niles was rarely the focal point of the stories and we really never got to see this character have a personal life. He was just always cleaning or serving.
