Another common mistake is giving up after missing one day or failing to be consistent when hardships come your way. Say, you're trying to work out every day and then you oversleep and end up skipping one day, the next day you are disappointed in yourself and decide to give up on it altogether. Forgive yourself, then try again. Some advice from Matt D'Avella that has really stuck with me is to try to never skip two days in a row. Once you have a cheat day, enjoy it, but don't get stuck there. Start over, like in a video game, and keep going. Great video, as always. Your videos act as gentle reminders not to give up on my goals, so thank you.

@MeeshT
@MeeshT 5 лет назад
@@ramyakrohanmohanty9895 Don't curse yourself! It's difficult because it's been instilled into our culture to hate ourselves for not being able to do things right but we need to be more gentle with ourselves. Say "It was just a bad day", put it behind you and don't dwell too much on it, even if it was your ·fault". I believe in you!!

1. Start small 2. Realize that not everything is going to turn out as planned and that unexpected stuff can always happen 3. Stick to your habits by for example make a bet with a friend or download apps (kind of a motivation or a reason to stick to your habits) 4. You need a strong reason to achieve your goal otherwise you will loose motivation That's all I got hope that helps😁

Solid advice as always. The scientific reason for that is also interesting. When we do things over and over, our synapses (junction between two neurons) become more strong, making them easier to initiate and difficult to get rid of. So repeat the good habits until your synapses are strong enough to last a life time.
@elizabethn.934

*Summary of the video:* 1) 0:38 Jumping into the deep end and taking on too many habits at once. Start small. 2) 2:26 Assuming there is no chimp. Essentially, there is always a "chimp" ready to throw a spanner into your habits, being unexpected and ruining something. People tend to think that there is no such "chimp", which is a big mistake. 3. 4:55 Choosing not to sit beneath the sword. This mistake is where people choose not to set consequences for failure of a habit. With no consequences, they often lack the self-discipline to stick to those habits. 4) 7:05 Trying to build a habit without a strong personal reason. Before setting a habit, you should have a good personal reason to do so, instead of copying someone else's habit that doesn't apply to you. Other people learn differently from you, and you should find the best way to do it yourself. Overall summary at 8:50

I am blessed that I subscribed to your channel 6 months ago. See, I started watching your channel when I had problems studying in my first year at college. Your videos were very useful and helpful for me. And then, for some reason, I stopped watching. For the whole year I didn't do anything productive, I never stopped my bad habbits (in fact, they got much worst), and my mental health has been going down hill without even noticing it. The last couple of weeks specifically were really hard and diffecult to handle. And watching your videos today just gave me this extra burst to be back on track and stop just sitting around watching myself getting worst and worst every day. Thank you so much, Thomas. Really hopeing the best for you always.

I've had lots of success creating new habits by only doing new things for such a small amount of time each day that Im left feeling anxious of impatient to do the activity again the next day. For instance my painting routine started with 20 seconds the first day then I added 10 seconds each day. Im still building up to 30 min a day or perhaps more. this method has really worked.

7:30 And books can take an eternity to finish and will be very dfficult to just skip to parts you want to cause they usually have some sort build up and narrative (the last one to my occasional chagrin), but only you can go straight to the point and there are lot of helpful people in comments with summaries, more tips and anecdotes.

Thanks for the well timed video. I am putting myself on a no eating out ban for a week to start starting 4/18/19. I made some rules but no consequences if I break the ban. I am a great (44 years old dude) fan from Brazil. If you allow me to make a suggestion, once I am also a heavy metal fan and you mention the importance of music in this video, in my humble oppinion the background msic of all your videos, are pretty loud for a background music and "pretty robotic" distracting the audience, specially when you use headphone to listen your videos. I believe you should chance the background music concept, for something more "agreable" and with a bigger compass. Most of time the background music "steal" your attention. This is a constructive critic.
