Perfect I started doing all this when she turned 2 months except the pacifier because she hated it since the beginning. We are only 2 weeks into the transition and she’s already sleeping 8 hours straight at night. She actually sleeps on her crib next to me at night. She started sleeping better when we transitioned her to the crib and to the zipadee-zip.

Watching this with a fussy 4 month old last week who was still swaddled and rocked to sleep. After watching so many video’s of you about sleeptraining and naproutines Ive decided it was time to start with our little boy as well We bought a new cosy sleeping sack, set up the bed, the bookreading table (with a few books set up and the light) We started looking at wake windows instead of waiting for our boy to show us his sleepy signs, we fixed his bottles and veggie bites around his nap times Adjusted our bedtime routing which already included bathtime. And we were set! With the record keeping sheet from the website we started this week, not knowing what to expect. From the first day up till now, we have this AMAZING sleeping baby! He got the hang of it so quickly. There was not a lot of crying involved We can now put him away in his crib awake after his feed and a little book. He will settle himself anywhere between 20 minutes to sometimes 5 minutes. We have a happy, playfull and rested child! Me and my family are so happy that I found your youtube page! Even the little one is feeling so much better with the amazing sleep he is getting! He was already a great sleeper at night, already did his 11.5h without feed in the night💙 Thankyou so much for these video’s!!

Hi Becca, thanks so much for this super helpful video! I think my 12 week old had started this early (she has started rolling already). Are these steps appropriate for a 12 week old or is she too young? She normally nurses to sleep, should I remove this prop or wait until she's a bit older? Thanks!
@littlezsleep
@littlezsleep 2 года назад
Hey Bryony! Congrats on your little one! There are a few things you can do during this awkward 3-4 month time frame. 1) get out of the swaddle 2) have more naps in the crib 3) keep her wide awake for the feed. Since she is not 4 months old yet, it is totally fine for you to help her get sleepy, but if you could separate that from eating that will help you out down the road. If you are looking for more resources for the 12 week range, I have a lot of newborn resources in my Sleep Society Membership! littlezsleep.com/sleep-society

Just went through the 4 month regression and we pretty much did these tips naturally -- we moved to a different wearable (where her little hands and arms are freer to wiggle away -- baby merlin sleep suit) and let her solve the sleep herself in her crib (she gets some rocking, but then she can sing all she wants in that crib). She was FIGHTING naps for a few weeks during her regression (like physically fighting us lol) but suddenly our superstar napper is back (naps in crib since 2 months -- Idk how we managed this) . And she's sleeping in her own room at night like some sort of little human person (legit waking up at 4 and 5 and 6am to an adorable baby blowing raspberries was incredibly annoying, tho cute as hell). Transitions suck, but oh man is it nice to see baby gain independence (and sleep!).

Is it possible that my baby is a little early with everything? She was more aware of the world very early on. And some of the things you mention like breaking out of the swaddle and slamming her legs in the night (break dance moves) she's already been doing for a month. She just turned 3 months yesterday. I'm focussed on improving naps at the moment (found your other video on getting the baby off the body during naps), I just wondered, if the signs show she is maturing, can I sleep train or do I need to wait for another month? I love how you share so authentically. It's really nice to meet you here. I never resonated with other people who offer this kind of information (although their info is also good), it's just not as personal as I feel yours is. So thanks for all the energy you put into this!
@littlezsleep
@littlezsleep 2 года назад
Hey Nalaya! THANK YOU SO MUCH! Congrats on your new baby! Although she may be mature is some developmental skills, you will still want to wait until 16 weeks to sleep train! That way we know that she is developmentally ready to soother herself to sleep.

@laurenell1112 Год назад
Thank you for this! My first baby did pretty well with adapting to sleep, plus since she was the only baby I had all the time in the world without a care to focus on her. But now I have a second baby, 4 months, and I am juggling between the two. Second baby is in sleep regression big time, plus he started to roll onto stomach early. When he started to roll I moved him to crib and he absolutely hated it, so since then I have been giving crutches like moved him back to bed to sleep with me, constantly giving pacifier, skipping nap if he constantly cries, etc., mostly because I do not want his crying to bother my 3 year old daughter and was thinking he may not be ready for sleep training. But as time goes on the crutches are not working and he is just crying more and sleeping less. So sleep training it is.

I’ve never left a comment on a RU-vid video before but oh my god I had to come back to say this… so when I was pregnant I learned about the 4 month sleep regression and decided when the baby was born I would implement good habits from the start to avoid it because it terrified me. I got baby into a routine from 4 weeks, had him swaddled and sleeping in his crib for all naps and taught him to fall asleep independently. For the first four months he was an excellent sleeper and I was patting myself on the back. Then on the day he turned four months, it started - naps lasted no more than 30 minutes and at night we were up every hour. When I watched this video I really didn’t think I’d learn anything new to be honest because I’d done so much research but then you mentioned the dummy. Every time I put baby to sleep, I gave him the dummy and of course, every time he woke I had to pop it back in. I thought there was no chance of being able to take it a way but I gave it a try. Literally the first nap, he went down super easy without it AND he slept for an hour. Then the second nap - two hours. I watched him wake up and put himself back over. Then at night it was a little trickier to get him to sleep initially but he slept through the night. I’m in disbelief. It totally worked. I honestly can’t thank you enough.

Thank you so much for this video and helping us parents reframe our worries about this regression! Last night might have been the first day of our daughters regression so I’ll try all these tonight. Is the Merlin sleep suit ok as the transition out of the swaddle or should we also move further from that and into the zipadee or sleep sack? We already have a Merlin which is why I wanted to check first before buying another baby item 😅 Thank you for your help!

My baby never liked being swaddled. We never used the pacifier to help him sleep but he does nurse to fall asleep which I don't think is a bad thing. I have found it to be the perfect opportunity to bond with him. I'll never let him cry himself to sleep that's barbaric
@MF_JONES
@MF_JONES 2 года назад
If you listened to what she was saying, the reason it's a bad thing is because they learn that they need a feed to get back to sleep. And most people don't give a shit about bonding when they've barely slept and the baby is screaming for something in the middle of the night. And letting them cry is not barbaric, it's teaching them to not depend on you to help them sleep, which is good for everyone
@runnerupcsal8241

@@MF_JONES Not even dogs let their babies cry or "sleep train" co sleeping is the most natural thing. And my needs should never be put before the babies. I'm a grown woman i can handle stress and sleep deprivation. A baby can't. But to each his own.

@@MF_JONES I get what you're saying about sleep deprivation and of course it's hard. No one said having a new born is easy. All I'm saying is humans have come this far not in spite of but because of our natural instincts (i e. A baby waking every two hours to nurse ups the chances of his survival) I'm not looking down my nose at anyone, I'm trying to do what's best for my baby just likr very other mother out there. Okay so mother of three boys 15 years old 10 years old and 4 months right now. I'm already out of the swaddle he does need like a blanket and does go to sleep with a pacifier with me patting his bum and then once he's done I just put him down and he's okay we're not quite to the point where he can sleep in a crib for long because he does ridiculous amounts of catnapping like Superfast naps but 15-20 minutes and that's just not enough for me to get overtired at 36 years old I'm not built like I was when I had my first child at 20, so here's the question are you telling me that I need to get rid of his pacifier by 6 months or like now? Please feel free to either message me back or whatever thank you very much for your help hope that this get some good responses as I'm open to all information that would be helpful

My baby has silent reflux and we are constantly using the pacifier as his comfort. He is now 16 weeks and In the 4 month sleep regression. Is it ok to take the paci away from a baby with reflux? He has medication that is working for him but I feel bad taking it away from him but he is constantly up in the night looking for it so I’d like to take it away
@littlezsleep

Hey Rebecca! Reflux in babies is so hard! Yes, you can take the paci away because it is actually causing broken sleep for him. If he learns to soothe himself on his own, he won't be looking for a paci! Throughout the day she’ll average every 3 hour feedings of 4-5oz but past 4:30 she’ll eat every two hours to “fill up for the night i guess “ is that ok?

My 16 week old started the sleep regression 2-3 weeks ago. We dropped the swaddle and moved him to his crib 😮. So far so good. I just need some encouragement that I do not need to get him drowsy any more. He IS old enough to self-sooth. . . He sucks on his hand and holds his lovey. . .But my momma heart keeps telling me, “he is still so young, you need to get him drowsy” … even if I get him drowsy it’s still only a 50% chance that will help him sleep. I can put him down drowsy but sometimes he wakes right up. . . Like I said, I’m just looking for some encouragement that my baby can self sooth to sleep even when not drowsy (I follow the awake windows).

@littlezsleep Год назад
Hey Rebekah! You are right that he is now developmentally ready to fall asleep independently and you do not need to get him drowsy! At this age, drowsiness is actually an enemy of sleep, because if he wakes in the middle of the night, he will need you to help him get drowsy again! I'm so happy to have found this video, especially when you shared those 3 steps. But how can we unswaddled our soon to be 5 month old to sleep when he couldn't stop scratching his face? We have tried it before transitioning him into sleep sack, oh boy it was so devastating and frustrating 😢 he scratches his face (side forehead) to bleed a lot. • He couldn't fall asleep while unswaddled and won't stop crying. • He couldn't sleep in his car seat nor his stroller. • He hated being swaddled (but we had to). • He naps only 20-30 min and has a hard time staying asleep since he was a newborn. Now he's going through the 4-5 month sleep regression just makes everything even worse. I cried a lot everyday of this stressfullness, literally! I feel like I want to run away from this situation.
