We lived near BC’s first Derby house and went carol singing there once - we must have sung perhaps 3 full carols, getting more and more nervous until eventually he opened the front door, said “well done lads” and emptied his pockets into our collecting tin! He was the most charismatic football manager this country has produced.

@@josiekaposie5783 I’m not sure what the “bull” refers to? When Cloughie first came to Derby he lived on Ferrers Way in Allestree [before he moved to Quarndon] just off what was the main A6 Duffield road in those days, I lived on Gisborne Crescent was 15 minutes walk away. Or perhaps it was the “charismatic “ bit you didn’t agree with - well it’s only an opinion and I’m sorry if you disagree but that’s life.

Back then football was great, almost tribal. Many of the players stayed with the one club for years. Back then manager's were leaders who made managing the players their number one priority. Especially manager's who had once been great players like Brian Clough . All that stopped when players were taken over by agents. Now what have we got, managers' having to deal with teenage footballers who think they know it and quoting what their agents have been filling their heads with with. England has become a magnet for footballers rom all over the world. Good or bad? I can't say. But it lessens the number of talented players that the England manager has to pick from.

i met a guy who was the director of tarmac in tesco whilst having a coffee we spoke about football and he said cloughie was great as he would open and site with ribbon for him and didn't want a penny donate it to charity he said whilst other manger's (RON ATk) wanted a new drive putting in and cash top man cloughie

The boss of the company I used to work for had an executive box at Forest and he knew Cloughie very well. One of the stories he told us was about a very well know player who was on the verge of signing and then it all went quiet. My boss asked Cloughie what happened and Cloughie replied "Nobody who has syphilis is going to play for this club."

Crossley does the best Clough impression out of all. Also Crossley was definitely the first keeper I saw, possibly the first full stop, who was punished for picking the ball up from a pass back. I think the reason he did it was because the defender played it back off his thigh. There were no opposition close to him, so I can only think he wasn't sure of the rules. I believe the pass back rule was only brought in after 92 Euros, do so would've been the first PL season. I'm sure we used pass backs when we won the last first division before the PL started
