TLDR1 - If you are looking for a get rich quick scenario with Morningstar recommendations, you are definitely in the wrong place. TLDR2 - if you can stand seeing red in your portfolio or only think stocks should quickly go up after a recommendation, maybe individual stocks aren't for you. It sounds like your expectations are unrealistic. Morningstar and, in this case, Dave are just calling the facts as they see them. There's no magic bullet with any analyst's call. These are recommendations with a 12 month to 3 year timeframe to come to fruition. Even then, market conditions or the company fundamentals could change and cause further downside. If you are looking for a get rich quick scenario, definitely look elsewhere. At best, the stock market is not rational in the short term. It is more of a beauty contest - who has the best marketing. AI is a good example. Long term, the financial numbers usually pan out. If starbucks was a 4 or 5 star stock recently and the price has moved lower, it should be a better value if all the factors are the same. Many long-term investors would be happy to get an even lower price. You should buy more and lower your cost basis if you believe in the company's long-term thesis. Remember, there are many factors out of analysts' hands. Politics is one. People called for a boycott of starbucks due to the Israel - Hamas war. That's probably still in effect for some protestors. McDonald's and Pepsi are both down, too. Is the consumer finally tired of cumulative higher prices since Covid? Has the US consumer credit card debt finally peaked, and customers are cutting back? Time will tell. There are so many moving parts to a stock price. If you can't stand seeing red in your portfolio or, in this case, can't help but whine about a stock not moving up after an analysts recommendation, buy ETFs and index funds and move on with your life. Individual stocks might not be for you.
