The kayak gives you control on your line. Your body still takes an impact, and the angle your boat and body are at can have a huge effect on whether you're okay or not at the bottom. On the tall drops, they throw the paddle to prevent having it in front of them (could break the paddle or injure yourself) and blocking their tuck (which protects your body). Each waterfall is different though depending on its shape and flow... For a kayaker that knows what they're doing, being in your boat is much more preferable than not. For someone that doesn't know what they're doing, you can easily get injured being in the kayak.

@@plohmann4327 absolutely. There are 1 million whitewater paddlers rafters, stand up paddle boarders and kayakers included. I'm specifically referring to whitewater kayaking... anyone can buy a sundolphin from wallyworld for $150 and go paddle a lake, 10's of millions of RECREATIONAL kayaks are sold annually... not the same as the 1200-1400$ retail price tag on the boats in the video. Whitewater kayaking is an obscure sport because as a paddler living in one of the premier whitewater paddling destinations in the world (especially the U.S.) I have to explain to every non whitewater boater that the kayak on my roof isn't intended to go paddle the lake that they float around and drink beer on... although it is plenty capable. "Kayaking" is a popular, globally embraced activity... whitewater kayaking is an obscure sport with some pretty obvious barriers to entry including but not limited to learning to "eskimo roll", cold water immersion, and expensive kit/gear set ups that are absolutely mandatory. A first time kayaker looking to acquire required kit of boat, paddle, PFD/buoyancy aid, helmet, and layers/dry gear (depending on learning environment and conditions) can expect to spend about $3000 for new gear and about $1000 for a used set up. Something tells me, you didn't know many of these things because a whitewater paddler wouldn't have said you did initially. I've taught whitewater kayaking for a few years and the general population doesn't know most of this info until i teach them... also of the 100's of students I've seen in the program i was at, only about 5 of them are still paddling whitewater.

But all the special definitions u mentioned Show that i Dont know quite a lot. But i love this Sport doing it for 4years Now, went down cool Rivers in the pyrenees or in tirol and Other Places too✌seems i have to learn quite alot 😅

@@plohmann4327 dude, no worries! I understand your view point a little more knowing you're in EU. There is so much more community support and infrastructure to build whitewater paddlers there! I wish the club scene and instruction was as widespread here in the U.S. as it is there! Whitewater is my life, and part of that seems to be explaining what it is and why we do it! Sorry for assuming you weren't a whitewater boater. Sometimes, I forget how global RU-vid is.
