Well , rather than character , most people would say or conclude that the players that choose to play for the country of their parents heritage rather than their own did so because they either were blocked or did not have the level . Koulibaly , Mahrez , Laporte , Le Normand , Aouar , Haller , even Hakimi , they either accepted that there was too much competition for Spain / France , or were somewhat pressured into their decisions early by the lack of progress in their club careers as well as the allure that comes with playing for countries with enough talent to win AFCON and / or get to the World Cup every qualification cycle . I seriously doubt that if Mahrez went to City before he played for Leicester that he would have played for Algeria ..
Sad to know Higuaín will be blamed for that mistake till the end of time. His career was very decent compared to strikers these days. Argentina won after all, without Higuaín. Stop the scapegoat.
