Another excellent video. In my experience, using an oscillating tool to cut the dowl puts gouges into the wood. It's because the blade is not resting flush on the wood surface. I end up tilting it up. I just use my small flush saw and place my finger on top of the blade keeping it snug against the board. I guess I could do the same with the oscillating tool. As far as using filler, if it's going to be painted, I use Bondo. It dries quickly and sands phenomenally well. Plus, it's hard as a rock. Wood putty takes too long to dry. I think it's because the wood putty is too deep. The putty at the bottom stays wet for a long time. Bondo doesn't have this problem. I even use Bondo to fill wall holes bigger than what a nail creates. For example, holes created from using plastic wall inserts.
