I have this for 3 years. Quadrupled my net worth and became jacked in the gym after years of wanting to do it but not having the motivation of doing it.. Tried to convince my friend but of course nobody listened. Videos like this will help the few of them who are thinking to do it to pull the trigger and change their life for the better.
No it's not sarcasm, I don't play with self development ever. I am dead serious. I have a Nokia 105 4th generation for 3 years now. It has no camera and i can only send sms and calls. I worek in a big bank in London and actually my clients are even happier because they can control their privacy much better. I am not joking at all. @@allwlwlwel
It's so nice! I'm a Japanese writer. My name is mikan oshidari(忍足みかん)! Due to my smartphone addiction, I switched to a dumb phone for my mental health. I'm publishing about it. I'm interested in the fact that dumb phones are slowly gaining attention again. I had a severe smartphone addiction. I even went to a psychiatrist! It's convenient, but it's not good for your mental health. Damphones are comfortable. People think it's a thing of the past and lame, but for me it's a cure-all for smartphone addiction! I think. I want the popularity of dumb phones to come back even more!
I’m 38 years old so I can remember a time before smartphones taking over the world. I’ve been feeling a huge pull to get myself back to a time before screens and social media turned me into a drone. I just ordered a dumb phone that only does voice calls and basic texts so i’m looking forward to that. I also picked up the book that you recommended. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience.
I might join both of you. I’m 32 and miss the flip and slide phone era. I feel like I loose so much time because I’m just on my phone. Wish 3g didn’t shut down. I still have my old amazing flip phones😔
I m 46, and massively addicted to my smartphone. Though I ve transferred my SIM card to an old Nokia phone from the early noughties that I still had lying around a couple of years ago, and have been using only this, whenever I m out and about, or even out of town for the entire weekend. Back in my flat it's still addiction galore though. Now I m planning a long trip to Asia, for ten months, and am considering bringing only my dumbphone. The only problem I foresee is online banking.
But you can use a smartphone. For banking, music and navigation. Take notes, calling and texting. Use it as a tool. Just kill social media accounts and other time wasting apps. I own smartphones since 2009? Never had any social media. Works well. (Ok, RU-vid is also sm)
I really like this video! I have been using a flip phone (Nokia 2780) for a little over a month now, and I love it! I honestly do feel relieved, and so glad that I chose to make a difficult yet positive change in my life! Has it solved all my problems? No. Is it inconvenient? Yeah. However, I have noticed an overall difference in my enjoyment of life, and I believe it will help me mentally in the long run. I enjoy having a different device for different things, and the feeling of pushing physical buttons. If you're on the fence about this, you can do it! If you feel deep down that you would be better off without a smartphone, you're probably right ;)
Im proud to say I have never had a "smart" phone. Im a proud owner of a ZTE flip phone and a Samsung Galaxy tablet if I need portable internet capabilities. Its nice to be able to ignore the online world for a few hours.
Great video! I switched to the Light Phone 2 a few weeks ago, and I feel that same sense of relief that you mentioned. Also feeling more independent and capable. It's so worth giving a try!
that's great to hear you're feeling more independent! It's so interesting that we seem to subconsciously have that safety net of the smartphone which perhaps limits this feeling
Thanks for your reflections. Two questions I had be are 1) do you still get anxious about needed to get back to a laptop/computer to check in or can you manage this? And 2) have you thought about using a cellular smartwatch without a phone for a hands free experience?
Verrry into knowing what you do for music! I made the jump from my iphone to a Nokia 2780 flip August 5th and still going strong. In some ways it's cool to either not listen to music and relax naturally or listen to old school terrestrial radio, butttt it would be nice to be able to pick a specific song to listen to.
hey, thanks for the comment! I similarly listen to less or listen to the radio and will listen to songs and podcasts on my ipad but I understand this is not an ideal or very accessible solution
I use my old iPhone 11 as dumb phone, removed all the apps except for stock apps like calculator, clock, notes etc... and I turn off the data and wifi and that's pretty much it, no distractions!!!
I knoooooow what you mean about being somewhere and feeling so much better to not have to check ANYTHING!!! I got the Light Phone 2 last year, but had to go back to the iPhone, but said NOPE I WILL not be using this iPhone, so I went back to the Light Phone II and I feel so much better for it.
There is a device called compass it looks like the safari icon on your iPhone. There is also something called map it is printed on paper. For nautical navigation you will also need a sextant and a precise clock.
It can be achieved with a smartphone, just install indispensable applications such as maps or to make payments for example and use a pocket notebook for important notes
Hi Bella, very nice video. I started using the Nokia flip phone in March this year. Since then, I feel very light. I spend more time with books and my thoughts. I do journalling. I take the time to simply close my eyes and think. I also began to meditate more since then. I feel a sense of calm and relaxed. I do not choose to call my phone 'dumb'. I have gratitude towards it. It might be the best thing to have during some emergency situation.
Hey thank you for the feedback! That's great to hear about your experience. I can very much relate to feeling lighter and having more time to read and journal! I like your thoughts on gratitude too - I suppose it's also a grateful phone :)
As your 6th subscriber, I would love to hear about what you do with the Pictures, Maps, Music and Podcasts as you mentioned. I don't interact with comments, but I feel like there is more honest takes you can provide through your experience. Through the chance of the algorithm I found this one video that matched what I was looking for in the moment. An honest experience. Looking forward to newer videos on this subject!
Same!! I’m taking it a little slower than jumping straight into a “dumb phone” to be honest. I’m recently engaged and I felt the need to delete my IG app and FB app fb for the better of our relationship (fb messenger is still there for my family) and it’s been about 2 months now. It’s crazy how much they try to make it hard to deactivate your accounts, here’s a story actually! I really wanted to see someone on my Instagram so I went to deactivate my account and look at an archived photo/video and I immediately went to deactivate it and they gave me a notification saying “CANNOT DEACTIVATE” like I had to wait another 7 days before I did it again.. like wtf, they really want you to be chronically online huh? Anyway, so I have a 14 Pro Max, Apple Watch Ultra and MacBook Pro.. it’s too much notifications and too much crap. When I didn’t have all the latest and greatest I really thought I wanted all of the newest and best stuff but now that I have it it’s like, I wanna use it because I paid for it (obv) but it comes at a huge price and that’s usually at the LEAST your time and sometimes it’s your mental. So, long story short, I’m replacing my Apple Watch Ultra with a Garmin Instinct 2 (solar powered, no need to charge). My iPad Pro, I may get rid of or give to my fiancé because she’s a stay at home kinda gal and I’ll keep my MacBook Pro of course. I can game on there when I’m home and not whip out my iPad and controller like I usually do when we have downtime at work. (Now I do stuff like read or listen to a book or podcast) Last but not least, what phone did I choose? Well, a BlackBerry Key2! The battery life is great, the keyboard makes messaging feel more intentional and somewhat just enough cumbersome that I can’t fire away a text one handed while I’m preoccupied and it just feels more valuable, less emoji’s and stuff. Best part? The temptation to use a lot of apps is a non factor because the Blackberry doesn’t support a lot of apps because it runs an old old old version of Android (they made android phones before they completely left the smartphone market) so yeah :) I’m not sure if I’ll ever completely get down to a “dumb phone” but to each their own thing, I do need a camera for work unfortunately. I’m even aware of some jobs that if they “require” you to have certain apps and stuff they may even have to provide a phone or cover a portion of your bill. So, if they even tell me my phone doesn’t suffice then I’ll kindly tell them to provide me something that’s up to par perhaps (I’ll keep you updated with that lol) Great video btw, been watching all the dumb phone vids I can to hear some testimonials. Subbed 👍🏽
It sounds like you've spent a lot of time thinking and figured out what works for you, good on you! I agree, I think so much of this is trial and error and finding what works best for yourself 😊
Love my dumb phone Nokia 800 though, bought for 3 months ago. Agree in so much of what you said, and I have used smart phones since they came on the market. Smartphones are making us "dumber" and trigger some ADHD behavior in all of us with the addictive algorithms that exist online. There is no escaping that for 99,9% of us. The nokia 800 can do a lot of what smartphones can do, but it is more troubled to do it with a small and poorly screen. But it is possible to play music, use it as wifi source, check the weatherforcast, navigate with google maps go online and check things online if you really need it. I think many young kids that er born with smartphones dont know what focus (beside the screens) really is because of gaming and smartphones. But there is one problem. I live in Norway and we have come so far in the digital systems that I have to use verify with smartphones apps that "I am really me" in multiple two steps verifications with banks, shopping online with the computer and work related stuff. Even parking the car sometimes requires smartphone apps, other payments are not possible. So I dont think it is possible in long run to just have one dumb phone. You must have a smartphone also, maybe an good enough older model that can run newer apps.
Loved the video! I started thinking about all that for a couple of days now, and now saw it's a thing. Didn't have a clue. I was planning to buy it just for some special purposes, for example, going to the beach of somewhere a (more expensive) smartphone can be stolen, but now I'm thinking using it every day. Thank you for inspiration! :) p.s.- any dumphones recommendations? (4G)
Hi from mexico! Im considering use a dumb phone, at the beginning i was not sure about it because of my work i have to use a lot google maps and pdf but you giveme an idea and now after my work im gonna use my dumb phone on my weekends😊
It's a great idea. Unfortunately, in the country where I live, it is relatively disadvantageous, as it is necessary to have a mobile application, e.g. to your health insurance company, which can reimburse 50% of the price of examination/procedure, etc. (this is not possible without the application). Also in schools we have something like an electronic student book where teachers write homework for our children, their grades, events, etc. (also impossible without a smartphone). And many other cases....
I'm going on my seventh year, not using a smartphone I don't want to go back. If I have to look stuff up ive a tablet and a Linux computer. I also have an physical gps including paper maps. My life isn't dependant on AI to do everything for me, I gotten into more street photography more with a digital camera.
Yes I use my iPhone when I need to i use a flip phone and a android phone normally only at home unless i have to GPS some directions then I'll take a smart phone with me
I mean cost wise, you can literally just buy a used nokia from way back when for like, 5 dollars, from any private seller. It will work just fine. The battery on my 25 year old nokia lasts around 5-8 days. That seems good enough. If you ask around in your friend group, i m sure lots of people just have one in their basement somewhere that they can just give you.
Hey ! Awesome job for your video ! You earned yourself a new subscriber 😋 It’s something i’m gonna try pretty soon 😄 Ordered my « dumb » phone last week !
The about 3 years ago my smart phone started to die and i was just going to get a dumb phone but the week i was going to get it my partner one a smart phone in an arcade game and i used that for 3 years and it started playing up again and ended up buying the aspera r40 (the phone in the video) and im so glad i did vut i wish i got it 3 years ago
I was considering this phone but it looks so big! I have been smartphone free for 8 months. Been using a variety of dumbphones, sunbeam, Punkt, Light phone 2, Mudita pure, hard to decide on one!
@@walther.laufer-68 Not expensive at all, I would return or sell any of the phones I used so never cost me a lost of money at all. I purchased the Cat s22 flip today its a smarter dumbphone as I feel I have beat my addiction and I am ready to introduce a smarter phone back into my life, one that is not inviting at all to use with a small screen. Very excited for it to get here!
Hi...a friend from chennai (india) i have also been in this dumbphone usage on and off..and it is true that your head weighs light after you get rid of smartphone.with smartphone we often search something for just the rush of thoughts which is not even useful..and also your dumbphone has whatsapp, do you use whatsapp in your dumbphone..?? Because i have had dumbphones(feature phones) where i used whatsapp in that..its horrible to use whatsapp in an feature phone(dumbphone) but do you use it??
Yes, I totally agree about the weight being lifted. Yes I do use whatsapp on my dumbphone. It is not great to use but for me it's a small price to pay, so I'm happy with it
Let me suggest a simple option where you will not have worry of losing all the functions of smartphone when you need it. Just keep your internet off and switch off all notifications except phone and sms. Your smart phone will be a dumb phone now. It can be smart when you need it.
Tell me what you do if you become a rich person and you do not have something fun what I hate about a dumb phone is I am an introvert what I do talk with people better I die someone please tells me an idea idea as a introvert
copypasting my comment from another place. stop searching for a f*ing dumbphone. Use a smartphone (and get the benefits of new technology such as a decent camera, a decent speaker a decent screen size, ability to setup 2fa and banking security) in a dumb way. Uninstall all the shit that's not ABSOLUTELY necessary. Messaging apps too if they're too overwhelming to you. Stop searching for something that you already have. It's like searching for a pot to cook pasta in for 1 person when you already have the 2 person one, just use the bigger one and put less water on it. You'll have plenty more than needed (but at least useful whenever you need to do something more complex). I get that all the tech companies (including utube lol) force their way into our brains, but for the love of god, once you realize that your behavior is overwhelming yourself, stop searching for outside validation. Just work with what you have. A capable phone can do less, an incapable phone can just do basic stuff. try setting up banking on your nokia 3310 and you won't be amazed.
This phone runs on Kai OS , a stripped down version of Firefox OS. At the core of this OS is Firefox Browser and the apps run on top of it. Nokia and Alcatel make the best Kai OS phones and cheaper than this one.
I hate computers i own a flip and i own a lap top im not the sheep of society i use a phone to talk and text i dont care im old school i come from the times where if you were seen with a phone you were rich or a dope dealer now its the standard we didnt have computers like now so im not familiar with the new way and i dont care
