In an effort to balance out my sometimes overly positive content its time to take a look from the other side of the coin. This isn't meant to be a negative video in anyway shape or form I do continue to think the GH4 is a fantastic camera at the price point but here are four reasons that you might not want to buy it if you are looking for a camera in 2019.

Honestly, I think a lot of "filmmakers" are spoiled, and the reasons that you mention can all be worked around. There is no perfect camera. They are just technological tools. I think the GH4 is an incredible value at the current price. It won't hold its value but at this price, they are almost giving it away.

For me, The only proplem at the GH4 is the sensor, Micro four third sensor is so small, Bad low light footage, there's a lot of details but with so much noise

@@AbuAreejQ21 I just got it for $400 and threw a speed booster on it and it's amazing. If you're using is for cinematic film making most of those cameras shoot on what is actually a super 35 sensor nor 35mm. For me the V-log, Cinematic true 4k instead of the Ultra HD 4k and clean HDMI ouput are more of a priority. I use all manual lens and use a wireless focus pulling system and if if I'm doing camera movements I use a gimbal other wise it's lock off. Mainly it just comes down to what do you need out of your tools.

In my opinion the GH4 is the best budget camera that exist right now. Considering the price of 400-500 euro second hand on eBay and the 96 fps + 4k capabilities, there is nothing else in this price range right now. The features that Panasonic offers are just great and yes, the small sensor could be an issue but if you have a speed booster and fast lenses (wide angle: Tokina 11 16 f2.8 DX 1) you won't have any problems. I do focus manually!

Yeah I was shocked at how well it held up even after 5 years. Like I mentioned in my Monday video if a camera was released today with the video specs of the gh4 it would be hugely applauded for being one of the top tier cameras 👍

It's not great man. I would buy original bmpcc instead graded upscaled footage would kill gh4 easy

This point-counterpoint video was great! You give us all the benefits of the camera and put those benefits against all the negatives. Providing the viewer with the information to help them make the decision for themselves and would it be worth it for THEIR own needs. I look forward to more of these!

I recently DID just buy a second GH4, and yes... my BIGGEST problems with the GH4 are low-light, and Stabilization. We've put money into stabilization tools (glide-cam, tripods, and gimbal), but doing significant amounts of 'run and gun' style shooting... stabilization is my biggest beef, especially wth the GH4/Speedbooster/Sigma 18-35 combo that everyone raves about. Still... bang for buck? The GH4 is still a great camera until you can bump up to the GH5. (Even thought they removed the IBIS from the GH5S)

how do you handle the auto focus when filming bodybuilding shows? Will have a trouble with manuel focus while on a tripod? what about if the subject is motion like runners and weightlifters?

My ideal bokeh requirement is at 28f/4. It’s the only way I can get my nose and eyes in focus, and ears almost in focus too. So if M4/3 can do that for me at a 15-18 equivalent then I’d be on board. Especially because at those wider focal lengths, there will be more light to hit the same DoF. 9f/2 would pretty much be my peak vlog lens. I couldn’t complain about the bokeh there.

would you still recommend it over the g85 in 2019,as bth the gh4 nd g85 has come under by budget the only thing thats keeping me from the gh4 is the noise produced in low light even at base iso ? i can live without ibis as long as i get good output. love the fps,v-log,etc in the gh4 the only thing thats keeping me away from gh4 is this low light issues,need your advice as i havent used gh4 personally.. big fan boy of the gh5s(apparently too expensive for me). p.s love your videos !

Love my GH5. I wish I hadn't of sold my G85 but did to get the EOS-R. Luckily I got the GH5 for 1599 during Christmas so I couldn't pass it up plus I picked up the 12-35 2.8 that helps with low light. Now if you could make a lighting video that would be awesome. Most of my work is in still photography without lighting and that is where I need to learn more. Great videos Gary keep em coming

The GH5 and I have had a weird relationship throughout the last year. I’ve bought and sold so many of the darn things I’d given up on using one. But having a little more experience with cameras now and being able to control it from my iPad makes it my favorite camera for these videos yet and I’m really happy with it. A lighting video from me would be pretty boring, I have a huge light that I turn towards me 🤣

Great points about an amazing camera! As much as Ive loved filming on my GH4, I’ve just sold it and gone with the Sony A7iii....which is clearly a better production unit, though not quite as enjoyable to use as my GH4 always was! I suppose a GH5 or G9 could’ve solved this issue :(

The a7iii is a great camera in its own right, the gh5 is also awesome but they are both good in different ways and it’s hard to say which is objectively better then the other 👍

Wait! Did you say that you can go into manual focus, then touch the point to be focussed on on the screen? That sounds brilliant. But It does confuse me. I always thought that manual focus is something you do by twisting the focus ring on the lens. Touching on the screen implies using the focus motors in the lens and so sounds like some kind of hybrid between AF and MF. Sounds brilliant to me... if it can reliably focus on the point that is touched.

its all points for consumers not for professionals. Professionals use manual focus and they use lights.

Yeah both are good for different things. The m50 is waaaaay better in the ease of use category, but if you want 4K I’d say the gh4 is a pretty solid choice too.

I’ve seen there is one but I haven’t gotten my hands on it. I have a speed booster from that company for my gh5 and it works pretty well. I don’t know how well the canon autofocus would transfer through it though 👍

Manual focus is better, amateur. Also, I have a GH4, I don't up my ISO, I bought an LED light and a variable Lens filter, and I get fantastic results, even in low light.

I’d argue it is, at least for me. The GH5 is almost the perfect camera for me, if it had better autofocus it would be the best. It has slomotion I require for b roll. Awesome stabilization. And that xlr adapter is one of the best camera accessories I’ve ever used 😳

@@TheEverydayDad I get those things... so if someone 'needs' them ok.. at any price that works for them. I suppose what I focus on is still and video image quality which encompasses a lot of things like noise, dynamic range, etc and from that perspective, I still think no, but I get your point :).

By a 1:44 you were jumping around so much I was dizzy. Then the confusion came in of what you were trying to get across. One point your audio was synced, the next frame it wast and then back again
