I actually use that method a lot - it's not wrong but it's definitely more one dimensional and "smudgey" so I was trying to show how to clean it up a bit haha
Yup like them both neither is wrong or right both look great! Then again there is something sweet and fresh about a face with just foundation bronzer and mascara. It truly is an art, it’s all about interpretation.
The reason why YOU get so many recurring questions about cream shadow application is because YOU are the only YTber that even gives cream eyeshadows a side glance.
Cocoa is LIFE!!! And I went through almost exactly the tips you’re giving, but once you get the application down pat they are amazing! They last like no other!! Don’t give up on them ladies!
The ByTerry ombre sticks have a great formula also, awesome on mature eyes, though they are pricey ... I am 50 with hooded and wrinkly lids, and just got a couple of these .... I can actually wear the shimmer without it aging my eyes because they are not super shimmery like powders and don't settle into lines, just love them! Worth the money, in my opinion. I like to mix them with the LM caviar sticks, my combos.... -> LM "Fog" as a base with BT "Mercure" on top of it; -> LM "Khaki" with BT "Mercure" -> LM "Cashmere" with BT "Frozen Quartz" -> BT "Bronze Moon" on its own is gorgeous.
I love cream eyeshadows. They are the eyeshadow product I use 90% of the time. What works for me is using my fingers for initial application (spreading the product across my eyelids), and then go in with a small brush after for blending. I use the Revlon Colourstay Cream Eyeshadows as I only buy drugstore products.
Hi Shelby. You introduced me to the caviar sticks and I love the ease of application. However I have mature hooded eyes. My question is how far to take the transition shade or crease color up the lid? I find that when I do, it looks too shimmery and emphasizes the texture, making my lids look crepey. (I use the original colors not the Amplified) I watched the video you did with your mom a while back and I noticed you didn’t really put anything on her upper lid to make her hoods recede. Am I wrong? When I put all the color on the moveable lids, my eyes look more deep set. I have to add powder on the hood but would prefer not to. Help! Would love to see you do more videos with your mom, with the close up angles you use on yourself. Because everything looks great on you but for us mature ladies, the struggle is real!
I would suggest a really small amount of something like Caramel in the crease if you want to bring a shade up further. I think it's totally fine to define your crease but probably most flattering with a completely matte color.
I swear by cream eye shadow (charlotte tilbury eyes to mesmerize in star gold) GORGEOUS and easy. I pat it down on my lid and blend it quickly into the crease with my finger. I add bronzer into the crease to help make the transition smoother. I personally think cream is amazing.
I've become allergic to powder eyeshadow but can tolerate creams for the time being so I really appreciate the number of cream eyeshadow tutorials you've made. Thank you.
Found this video months later. I really enjoyed the advice being given here. The things I have learned with makeup and eye makeup specifically: practice makes perfect; definitely take time to tweak certain things like placement of crease color / blending color higher or lower on the crease depending on your eye shape and how you want your eyes to look; if you doing your own makeup for an event make sure you give yourself plenty of time and do your eyes first and then your face; less is more!
Dang woman don't you just look beyond breathtaking today!!!! Just saying. Love your eye look here. Love how I always learn something! Also got a new color combo 🐱 to try.
I tried these tips with my caviar sticks in caramel, cocoa, and metallic taupe and my eye look has never looked better! These tips truly made a difference for me, thank you!
Hi Shelbey! I find your videos enjoyable and relatable even though I’m approaching 50. Thank you for incorporating some tips and tricks for those of us in the “mature” age range. Love me some cream products and have had my eye on the caviar sticks for a while, but can’t settle on a combo to try (even though I watched your combos video). Also, I’m wondering if they would wear well on me because I struggle with creasing and my lids tend to “eat” shadows. BTW...I check your Instagram stories daily hoping for an appearance from the pickle!
I know I'm a few months late on this, but I'm hoping you can answer the question: Do you use an eyeshadow primer with the caviar sticks? If not, how long do they stay creaseless? Do you have oily/normal/dry lids? Thanks!! Very helpful video ❤️
Hi Shelby I like creams but I always get crinkle lines on my lids eyeshadow is a pain but eyeliner is worse never comes right thanks for this any advice?
I love your channel. For me, you are up there with Wayne Goss, Lisa Eldridge and Alexandra Anele. These are extremely helpful tips - thank you. The only problem with Laura Mercier, Bobbi Brown and CT products are that they aren't cruelty free. I'm really trying to avoid cosmetic products that aren't cruelty free. I bought some of the Kiko Milano - who, BTW, have awesome customer service - and one of the e.l.f. ones...so, still experimenting and will try more of your tips. I read in one of your comments that you are going to do a video of the e.l.f. sticks? Also, I have lips like yours, and it's so refreshing to see a YT who hasn't gone the road of lip fillers. It's very helpful!
I would love it if you could do a video on cream eyeshadow and older eyes or hooded eyes. I know you are young and perfect, but maybe you could give us some helpful tips anyway.
I have Caviar Sticks and I have the ones from Beauty Pie and they are pretty much exact in formula. Give them a try. Beauty Pie has great skin care too.
Those of us who have more mature eyes need help with applying the caviar sticks, especially with the shades that contain metallic or shimmer. I definitely do not use the intense shades.
THANK YOU for this video. I just started wearing eyeshadow during quarantine (boredom + middle aged skin), and I am still learning. I got a couple Pixi cream shadow stick on clearance at Ross, and my mom and I loved them (one of them is the same exact color as CT’s Walk of No Shame!). Then I got a Bobbi Brown one with Sephora points and really liked that too. Now, I have to order some Caviar sticks next! Have a great week everyone!
Thanks for the video Shelby - you give some great tips! I watched the video on your favourite caviar stick combinations and bought the cobblestone and sanglow as loved the look. I'm disappointed with the sandglow colour though as it looks nothing like it does on your eyes. On me it looks a dull flat colour (just disappears) with no sheen. On you it looks a different colour and gives a lovely shine which stands out. I've followed your application technique and tried with and without primer. Any ideas why this would be? Thanks
Do you clean your brush between colors? Or something like one for dark and one for light? What brush is the light colored brush you used to apply the light colors? Also, what products do you use under them if any? A moisturizer? If so, which one?
This is so helpful! I just got some of the caviar sticks and they've been looking really bad - now I've realised I've been applying way too much! Excited to try again with the proper technique.
Hello Shelbey, what about the cream shadows in a pot. I recently purchased one and haven’t tried it yet. I think its a Maybeline I also saw other brands making them. I actually want to buy one of each brand like Cover Girl, Maybeline and whoever else makes one. My favorite so far is still Bobbi Brown. Just wondering if you have a video on pot shadows? ❤️
Thanks for this video, @shelbeywilson ! Once you have more time playing with the Auric smoke reflects, could you do a video on how you get those to work well? I have two of them and love them, but feel like my technique could definitely be improved. Thanks!!!
I love the matte Bobbi Brown Shadow Sticks but for the life of me I cannot prevent them from creasing within minutes of application (even if I powder my lids first). Do you have any tips?
This was such an informative video. I’m reaching for the Bobbi Brown more then the Laura Mercier these days but I’ll always have both in my collection. Love a simple all over wash with a little pop of shimmer for everyday but am using your technique on the outer corner/crease to add drama for evenings out (whenever we go ‘out’ again).
I bought my first Caviar Stick today! I bought Cobblestone, because I knew it would be a safe choice since Ulta isn't allowing testers at this time. I'm wondering whether you tried the eyeshadow sticks by The Balm? I picked up one a local cosmetic shopquite a while ago. I believe the shade is Batter Up (they have baseball names) - a pearlescent purple, not full on shimmer. I find the blendability to be quite good, all day wear, and they don't dry out in the tube like my two Stila did. Mid range price.
I have used the NudeStix shadows in quite a few videos. I even have a full face NudeStix video. Individually they aren’t that much cheaper than caviar sticks. For me they do not last as long and I find the finishes to all run together (matte or satin finish). I like them but I’m not over the moon with them.
Thank you Shelby for explaining about the cream eyeshadow. I like the Charlotte Tilbury Jean it’s easy to use .but I struggle with the Laura mercier caviar stick original Amethyst on my mature hooded eyes I think I have used too much and perhaps I will try a different brush as you have suggested it. I find using my finger is easier to spread it but I lose the shape. I also find it quite a dark colour.
I think the trick is to build up in nice thin layers as you say. The matte one's are a bit boring to me but nice tip on adding the sparkle shadoe on top.
Do the caviar sticks last a while in the actual sticks? I mean do they have a long shelf life? I know the Bobbi Brown does and the Clinique chubby stick
I really needed this tutorial. I love cream shadows but I always look like a hot mess. Messy and muddy. I agree I think using the right tools due matter and make a huge difference. Thank you 😊
lol her demonstration of adding too much cocoa is exactly what i did with my first cream shadow - cocoa! - a few weeks ago, and which brought me here 😂
Hi How did you get. Your lips to look so full + shiney ...This sounds funny but I have the same lip shape as you so IAM always trying to make them more pouty.🌼
The opposite eye isn’t supposed to represent a “bad” look - I actually use cocoa by itself in this form a lot (especially for undone hazy looks). The purpose was to show the difference in using control with the amount and application of your product because I often get told from Viewers that their eye looks end up being “too dark”, “too smudgey”, “a mess” etc.
Very timely, I’m about to give up on cream eyeshadow. I feel like they always lose their luster after a few hours. Trying Eyes to Mesmerize by Charlotte Tilbury and I get fallout by end of day?!? Argh, gonna try these techniques to see if helps❤️
My issue with the creams is that the shimmers can look dry rather than glossy even with the higher end products, maybe it’s because my lids aren’t perfectly smooth or the camera accentuates the glossy ness?
Definitely depends on the formula - I've found in a lot of cream shimmers the finish to be dull or more of a satin, rather than actual shimmer. This is why I praise the intense version of caviar sticks (also what I am wearing in the video). Their shine is unmatched! Intense Amethyst, Intense Moonlight, and Metallic Taupe are three of my favorites for a really high shine look.
I am 60 and have more wrinkles on the eye lid. I also have hooded eyes. I don’t think the shimmer would be a good look but I do like the cream eye shadows. Are they a good fit for someone my age? Can you ever do a demo on an older woman?
I just did a video a few months ago on my mom. I would recommend shades with a satin or matte finish. Something like Caramel, Cobblestone, Khaki, or Cocoa :)
Hi! I really just have to ask. Im an educated makeup artist and I discovered your channel through your videos on the caviar sticks. I got so Carried away so I ordered 5 of them 🥴😄😳💸 and I was going to try them out for new years but felt very shortly after I applied them that they dried down and felt very "hard" and sticky on my lids. I have a bit of a hooded lid and I could feel the skin on my lids as I blinked like Rolling over the dry hard shadow if you know what I mean. Does this happen to you to or what am I doing wrong? Can it just be that I applied too much product? And also I wonder, what do you use under the caviar stick? Do you apply on a naked lid with not even foundation or concealer, ot over a primer or concealer? And if so, powdered or not powdered before? Puh, hope you manage to read all this. Thank you in advance 🥰😘
I definitely think that's a sign of layering a lot of product. I am never able to feel them on my lids. There have been a few occasions where I got crazy with layering the metallic shades and could feel them on my lids. This also happens to me with the Covergirl sticks because overall they dry down much more than the caviar sticks! I never prime under my caviar sticks because they have great staying power on my eyes. For people with oily lids I only recommend an eye primer that's transparent. If you use something with a beige huge (Mac Soft Ochre for example) it will alter the formula of the shadows and application. Hope this helps!
@@ShelbeyWilson Ok! Thank you so much for taking the time to answer! I will definitely try them on bare naked lids. I think that could help 😀👍 Hugs to you all the way from Sweden 👋🥰
I have a vision impairment that makes applying make up a challenge. Hard to know what it looks like when you can’t see it well. I’m hopeful the cream eye shadow application will be easier to see and apply. It’s a struggle to do anything eye makeup related but I’m looking forward to the challenge of doing better with these products. Thanks Shellbey!
First, I am 50 and i am in love with your channel!!! Second, ever since subscribing to your channel i have fallen in love with cream shadows i own soooo many and love to play with them i have the caviar sticks nudestixs and kiko (yes they are less longwearing) i also love maybelline color tattoo they are great and affordable they just need the right brush. I have learned soooo much from you!!!! and last but not least-YOU LOOK AMAZING GLOWING and BEAUTIFUL❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ p.s. do you have a dupe for the mac217 maybe sigma has one or real techniques🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 plus do you use an eyeprimer under the shadow sticks (my lids are very oily) if so what do you use or suggest? I would love to see a tutorial on mature hooded eyelids this would help tons🙏🏻🙏🏻💞
Nancy I agree, they are similar. I do prefer the MAC 217. It is slightly smaller, softer, fluffier and worth the extra money imo. If you don’t have sensitive or mature (thin) eye skin it shouldn’t be a problem though.
@@estig.1798 You’re welcome! Let us know if you find a primer you like. I found that the Two Faced works better than the Nars or Urban Decay on me, but it does have a slight tint to it so idk if the colors stay true. I can, however, say that the shadow doesn’t crease or budge for 12+ hrs. You have to be more precise when placing it and blend quickly bc the primer makes it set fast. Sometimes I put it just on the crease not the moveable lid. It’s funny how we all have our own little tricks! Eye skin varies so much from one person to another.
I have some cream shadow sticks from Bobbi Brown. The one I am struggling with is the color Golden pink. It looks good on the back of my hand (smooth and beautiful) but on my eyelids it looks dry and patchy. What am I doing wrong 🤷🏽♀️😅
I have been slammed... so glad I finally got to see this!!! I love the Laura Mercier Cavair Sticks and have found they are worth the splurge! I agree the key is in the application! Thanks Shelbey!!
I tried several Kiko eye sticks and was extremely disappointed in their quality. Some of them came broken inside their tube. Others would break off when using-even with a gentle light pressure. I ended up returning all of them. Bought the Caviar Sticks and never looked back. Still trying to master Shelby’s technique with my very small eyes and sagging eyelids (I’m 63). She makes it look so easy, but I still struggle. But I won’t give up! Would love to see her do a Caviar video focused just on mature ladies like me with small eyes and sagging lids.
