4 Recently Published SH*T Tricks & Better Alternatives | Review Show SPECIAL With Craig Petty
This Sunday evening Craig is trying something new. Rather than just reviewing a product Craig compares four sub standard tricks with better alternatives which are better in almost every single way.
Craig talks about why the tricks are not very good and then talks about the pros and cons of both versions. And as normal there are lots of live performances so you can see exactly how the trick is meant to play in the real world.
Let us know what you think of this format. Do you like the idea of highlighting alternative tricks that work better that the trick being reviewed. Let us know what you think in the comments.
On this Review Show Special Craig looks at 4 products and compares them with 4 other products. Here is a breakdown of what Craig is looking at
Chop-Doh by J. Natera Vs The TCC Chop Cup
Spoon Monster by Conan Liu & Royce Luo Vs Spooning Around by Axel Hecklau
Keynote by Seth Race & Abstract Effects Vs Ignition by Chris Smith and Magic Smith
iCandy by Peter Eggink Vs Juicy by Saturn Magic and James Keatley

I feel like I shouldn’t buy another magic trick until I watch your reviews. I’m addicted to your RU-vid shows. I’m just concerned once the world returns to normal you’ll justifiably be doing less RU-vid shows because you’ll be too busy doing real paid gigs. But until that day I’ll be watching your reviews everyday. Thank you for making magic better. I especially enjoy your rants and real magic videos.

The thing is about exposure is that it doesn't matter. Especially buried deep in videos like this. It's a technical video for performers. I guarantee the only people who are going to sit through 25 mins of this are magicians. And if you routine it correctly even people who have an inkling will be destroyed. First you can give the ordinary ball and cup out for examination. Second what I do is use the loaded lift for the first of the finals. And I use a lemon or something which isn't a jam fit. So even if they suspect a magnet or jam, they won't know about loaded. I can guarantee that 95% of what they remember about chop or C&B is the finals so the nature of a possible gimmick is almost incidental to the hitting power of these effects.

@@UncleSkiBum Yea, I appreciate he was joking but thought I would be semi on topic. Exposure of the chop cup is interesting. It's been quite well exposed gimmick wise, but the final loads are just misdirection. So I always find it plays well even if a couple of specs have an idea, it acts like a sucker effect as just as they think they know, the big objects appear.

Seeing videos like this confirm to me that I am going the correct route by hardly ever buying any magic products except for books, since beginning in magic 2 years ago. I have not bought one single magic trick but have some great books. Oh and a few DVDs but only because the material is hard to do from a book or it is the only way of getting the material. Like Craigs Split Happens DVD that I just received a couple of days ago and it rocks!!(and I dont think that material was ever published in a book but it is like GOLD)

Thanks Craig, great video. On the strength of the first product I've just bought a TCC Chop Cup. I actually bought one of the similar Play Doh chop cups at Blackpool last year. It was ok and looked a lot better than the one you reviewed but I just felt the cup was too big and the final load may perish over time when kept in a pocket. But the main reason I sold it on was the fact there was no suggestions for routines and/or instructions. It wasn't cheap and I'm someone who likes a routine to start from and then build upon. BTW, I also bought Gossip - looks amazing. I've watched the instructional link so can't wait for it to arrive in the post.

I own neither spoon-to-fork product, and I'm pleased to learn of the existence of transforming cutlery. I wonder if the later spoon effect requires less skill or is rather less expensive... Hecklau operates in the quality end of the market; there may still be room in the broader market for products that aren't as good, if they are nevertheless fit for purpose. However, you have to agree with Craig's questioning why anybody would release products that are not nearly as good as what's already on the market. I'll join the crowd and look forward to more direct, frank and genuinely informative product comparisons from Craig.

Craig ~ Enjoyed the review. In regards to iCandy and Juicy, I know the review was to compare like candies. For me, I'd go way, way back to Sugar Rush by Platt Magic. I LOVE Sugar Rush. There was alot of thought into it's shell production, performance, and routining. The only issue I've ever had with Sugar Rush was that in the warmer months of the year of finding a way to prevent the chocolates from melting in the warmth of my hands. I even asked Platt's Magic to find or consider another candy for the warmer months, but unfortunately I never heard back. Craig, Question, How do you feel about using Juicy as a summertime candies that doesn't melt as readily? How durable is the Juicy gimmick? How often do they have to be replaced? I don't know about you, but I just thought that someone , since the production of Sugar Rush, might come out with a more "impressive" candies as a Hershey's Chocolate than a Starburst. I've been wanting to express this for some time. Just my 2 cents.

advantage of the pull is the spoon changes instantly into a fork with zero cover, or very little cover. its a very magical "don't blink" moment, but perhaps a longer routine is preferable in a live performance and this is better for social media. Also, having a piece of metal on a pull, seems like a good way to lose an eye

You've touched on something Craig that's really annoyed me for years. It's a point that the vast majority of Magicians get wrong; irrespective of whether they're using a Key, Pencil, Sharpie, Pen, etc. NONE of them are in fact a 'Penetration' effect! Think about it - you can push ANY sharp object through a note (bill). The ACTUAL EFFECT that you are presenting is, in fact, a 'RESTORATION'. You are damaging a note; only to then restore it. That is the effect - NOT the penetration - that element is just part of the PROCESS! To this end, there's no point whatsoever in borrowing a key in the first place, in my opinion. The object piercing the note ISN'T the effect - the RESTORATION is!
@BarryAllenMagic
@BarryAllenMagic 3 года назад
@@magicbyspaz No, I don't see your point - here's why. The effect of pushing a cigarette through a coin IS a penetration effect; because you are performing something that should not seemingly be possible. Or in other words, a stick made from paper and tobacco going through the centre of a coin made of metal. That is indeed an 'impossible' penetration; followed by a subsequent restoration. However, there is nothing mind-blowing/magical/unexplained, etc. by a sharp object being pushed through a piece of paper, is there? What's so incredible about pushing (for example) a key or sharp pencil through a piece of paper money.....a child could do it. Therefore, with this type of effect, the ONLY aspect that could be considered 'magical' in any way is the restoration. Therefore, it is purely a restoration effect.

Cool effect you did Craig with the time traveling starburst. Because the candy goes back in time to even before you unwrapped it, would you be concerned the spectator will say “let me see your top shirt pocket” to check to see if the wrapper went back in time too? I guess you can vanish the wrapper many different ways. I have a great z-fold wallet I made up with lots of stuff in the pockets and the slits (credit cards, playing cards business cards, cash, lottery tickets. I have the identical items in the exact same spots (some of then even taped down so nothing will shift- on the other side too. When you start the effect you could use patter along the lines of “for this to travel back in time I had to go through tons and tons of starburst packs to find the one “special” piece”. I finally found the 1 out of the 3 that exists in the world). You see- it has a strange marking on it”. Before the effect you pre-marked the open wrapper and the piece you show at the end. Using a sharpie you could put a strange identical symbol on both. Then putting it in the wallet is kind of justified because it’s a “rare, special wrapper”. And I would put the completely unfolded piece in the pocket of the wallet sticking out as much as possible for a better visual. Close the wallet and when you open it towards the end of the effect, it’s gone, and I feel that having all of those identical items on both sides in the exact same spots even makes it look even more convincing that it actually vanished and is just a normal wallet. Then reveal the wrapped piece with the exact same symbol on it. This may be overdoing it a bit, but I found a normal, un-gimmicked wallet in my “man cave of magic” that is pretty much identical to the z-fold wallet I mentioned above (and I have tons of different z-fold wallets), and put all of the identical items I have in the z-fold wallet into the un-gimmicked wallet just in case a switch and handout is necessary. (And it’s not necessary for the effect Craig did). But I’ve never had anyone ever ask to see the wallet anyway (except for my wife).
