@ChasenHill I've been in for 2 year, I'm not 40 years old, with a few years experience wrestling back in high school. My goal is to improve my guard gane, and make better use of my legs.
50 year old hobbyist here and I've been training regularly and consistently for about 4.5 years. My only goal is showing up. Period. My professor recently promoted me to purple belt and I would have preferred to not get it because it makes BJJ a little harder now and honestly, I don't want to "train like I fight" (I"ve already done that) or "leave with the tank empty." My only goal is to fight back heart disease, obesity and depression. That might sound harsh - I'm not a train wreck. I'm a dad working 60 hours a week, putting kids through college and BJJ helps fight back the real killers for people my age. I think this is hard for my professor to understand sometimes.
This can be an intense hobby, with a lot of focus on competition. I'm more on your side of the fence - 40 year old hobbyist, in for 2 years with a 2 and 6 year old. This is the best workout I have found, and helps me keep my weight down. My focus isn't on winning competitions or beating so & so. I'm happy to stem off having heart issues in my 40's like some of my friends and families have had. Good luck on your journey.
Ya what’s wrong with just learning having fun. Im starting at 63 playing the game having fun. My competition is trying to do this till Im 80. Think if I do that I win.
I understand. Recieved my blue belt at 57yr old in 2021. I mess up 4 yr of off and on and taking care of family life, health from a prostate Cancer. Now that I'm 60 pre Diabetic, HTN, and low T's. So yea just show up love that insight, have fun, and find my game. So the real fight is me. My son just turn 20 today. I get school part, health. Thanks man. Any suggestions. I just pray that it's not to late.
@@reginaldanglin4264 I think you are right where you need to be. I've talked with my Professor about this and he's coming around. He's a good guy but he's 32 and has been training since he was a kid so he doesn't know what it's like to be old - and he doesn't know what it's like to start old. If you don't want to roll hard, or roll at all, don't - you're 60.
@rolotomase1440 hey I don't mind being 60. I get what you're saying. If I want to roll then cool, if not cool. As long that I'm still in the game and being 60. Lol.
I need directions. To get back to jiu-jitsu. To find my jiu-jitsu game. 4. Development in a guard game and passing. Or just find my game. To compete within a year or year in a half at age 60. Thanks
I have lots of martial experience but I can only workout 1-4 times a month. Nogibjj is so vast that I can't keep up with it. I don't even know all the names of things when people talk about BJJ.
