A tip is try to keep your hips up bc that’s what makes you sink i learned that from my coach yelling at me bc I would stop a lot and if you stop in competitive swimming your disqualified but it really helps
And if you have kids, get them swimming as early as possible! My parents had me in the YMCA pool before I was 6 months old. It's obviously smart from a safety standpoint, but it also fosters a lifelong love of swimming and being in the water.
@@FaresKsebati one time when we were in training we had a swimming competition with kick boards and it was pretty easy for me at least we had to go to the top of the pool and then go back and it was a pretty long pool but by the time even one person made it to the top I was already like three feet away from winning and it took me like 2 minutes
It brings me sadness and trauma. Bad memories with swimming scarred me for life. I swore to myself that I will never learn to swim. It only causes panic for me.
I have started to learn this skill at 32years now. It's been 10 days now that I have been swimming, I am facing difficulty with stiffness in my body. I can breathe by turning my head, but the moment I turn my head, my legs start to sink and I unconsciously stop kicking.
Whenever I try side breathing I drink water and I feel like vomiting so I just stand in the middle of pool with my instructor shouting at me to continue 😭 Edit: i finally learned it guys after 2½ months. I may have drank half of the pool 's water but the result is worth it
Same here. Lol until my friend told me you're suppose to exhale underwater and then come up and take a deep breath. Before I was would exhale while my head was out of the water then inhaled the water too 🤣 I dont know anymore
Keep practicing. Don't give up. You'll improve over time. Eventually, the fear will subside as your technique improves. It took me two years of continuous classes. Be encouraged, be safe.
I recently got back into swimming and I’m in my late 40s. I feel like exhaling through my nose helps me breathe better in general out of the pool. And possibly even sleep better with better breathing at night during sleep.
I know how to swim underwater but can't keep my head above the water too long and my hands always reach out for supports if I try to keep my head above ‼️
Same. But still do not know how to swim. I'm pretty sure learning how to float is already an advantage meaning I'm getting there. Just a slight push and I'll compete with dolphins lol
I’ve been doing swimming in PE and one time someone swam past me coming the other way as I turned to breathe (we all swim in the one lane as there is not many of us) and the little wave of water from their swimming went in my mouth and I basically inhaled it so I ended up spending like 2 minutes standing in the pool coughing lol
I learned to swim by myself and this is how! You have to hold onto the side of the pool keep your head up and just kick your legs constantly! Then let go of the side of the pool and keep kicking your legs, you never start swimming after you do this strategy once, you have to do it constantly, and then when you do eventually you will start swimming!!
The kicking part is really hard…been practicing for days and my legs are so tired. I feel like I have to kick hard to move even a little in water…how can I improve on this?
The guy in the video wasn't pointing his toes when he kicked. Make sure to point your toes. Also a common mistake is to kick from your knees. Make sure you are kicking from your hips and thighs. Your knees should only bend a little bit when you kick. Also, it isn't necessary to kick a bunch. Most of your forward motion when swimming freestyle comes from your pull.
Honestly, I feel like it's easier to change your breath when you got the speed in water, unlike this video where you learn to catch breath without actually moving at first which makes your body sink once you turn head sideway. Focus on the body movements first(strokes, kicks), then sideway breathing will become much more easier and natural.
I joined the swim team without knowing how to swim, but my amazing coach has taught me how to swim and now my favorite strokes are dolphin kick and front stroke
Gurl let me tell you a story so when I was at my friends place I was about 7 at the time and I didn’t know how to swim so I found some goggles and put them on put my head in the water and let my feet lift up and I began to float in the water and I came out of the water and said hey I didn’t know this goggles can float and they said it can’t that’s how I learned to swim anyways well I was still there I kept swimming but that’s when the problem happened I started to sink I tried swimming back up but I couldn’t I was losing my breath thankfully my friend was in the pool swimming I grabbed her arm and pulled myself back up she said she was trying to pull me up i felt sooooooooooooooooo lucky I didn’t drown I’m so lucy
I’ve been swimming for decades but learned something here! This swim stoke has always been taxing for me bc of the breathing. JUST USE THE FLOATY BOARD!! 😂
The best way to learn to swim is to put yourself somewhere where you have to swim. Such as the deep end of the pool. Obviously have somebody there to make sure you're safe, but if you put yourself in a place where youre forced to swim, you learn quickly. When i first did breastsroke i went too far where i cant stand (i was an idiot since nobody was watching me) but i learned how to do breststroke real quick.
