Many veterans frequently experience discrimination and are often overlooked or treated poorly. And it looked like the same was going to happen when 6 teens approached an elderly Navy veteran, and his wife Annette dined at Olive Garden. Lou was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War, and he wore his "US Navy Vietnam Veteran" cap. It was a symbol of his service and dedication to his country. The couple was looking forward to a peaceful dinner until an interruption happened. They couldn't help but notice a group of six teenagers who entered the restaurant noisily. Soon enough, these teens acted in a way Lou saw as mocking. And what they did next made the old veteran cry!

Most Viet Nam vets did not receive any respect or appreciation upon their return. My boyfriend was a medic, never killed anyone, stayed with soldiers who were dying, and when he returned, people called him a baby killer. I’m glad some vets are receiving respect finally.

I am a U.S. Marine Vietnam veteran, and we had a similar, but reverse, experience at a restaurant in Dana Point, California. We were in line to order breakfast at Stacks Restaurant, and five very fit young men came in behind us. Camp Pendleton is close by, so I figured that they were Marines on weekend liberty. I greeted one of the group as we were gazing at the menu on the wall, and I was right, they were Marines. They were all Forced Reconnaissance Marines, an elite group, similar to Navy Seals. They were incredibly respectful when they learned that I was a Vietnam Marine. My wife and I let them know that as a thank you for serving, they could pick anything on the menu and it was on us. We all sat together at a large table and, one by one, we learned their names, home town, and talked about life in the military away from family. For maybe an hour we wanted them to feel appreciated and loved by the people they protect. The hand shakes, smiles, and hugs were priceless. I was in their shoes once, and when I returned home from Vietnam no one cared, and the disrespect was awful. We now pray for them as they move forward in their lives as United States Marines. Semper Fi.

I never understood as a child with the vets went through, but as I grew up and understood the disrespect that was shown to our veterans, I found it reprehensible. I would like to tell all Viet Nam Vets that myself and my family has always appreciated your sacrifice. We love you we honor you. We will never forget you. Nice reading things like this. I was drafted 2 weeks after high school graduation and yes, I was sent to Vietnam. I bought a Vietnam veteran cap a few years ago and wore it proudly. Someone approached me a few months ago in a parking lot and after seeing my cap they shook my hand and said, "welcome home". I had never heard that before and honestly it brought tears to my eyes.

My father was a Korean War Vet many people do not even know that the USA was involved in this war. It made my father sad when people knew nothing of this war. He would think about the buddies he lost there and would say "Nobody even cares about the sacrifices my buddies made". A friend of mine was born in Korea she told me "If your father hadn't fought for my parents freedom I wouldn't be here free in America". This made me so happy. I was sad tho that my father was not able to hear her say it. When I went to visit him at his grave I told him what she said so I know that he heard me and it made him smile. My father fought at the BATTLE OF PORK CHOP HILL.

I asked my dad why, he didn’t know either. Now that I’m in my 60s and see young men respect this guy makes me very emotional. Yes I never served which I regret but I honor these guys that put their lives on line for us to be over here complaining about everything that we complain about doing the things that we love, having kids getting married, thank you all especially Vietnam vets for what you did! Great story and I am glad Jack didn't have to put a butter knife through a guy's carotid artery or something. Nice to see good young men showing respect for this man whose service came before them and treated him accordingly. I'm sure his wife was relieved

The world would be better off if more people respected and listened to their elders like these young men did. Great story.

I love this it brought tears to my eyes. I live in Nevada witch is a battle ground state and lots of service members live here. I was raised not in military but to respect those who served to give me the life I have and the freedom that comes with that life. I always approach the soldiers I see to shake their hand and thank them for their service. Some times it's a good response and sometimes I think they just don't want to be bothered or maybe it brings back bad memories when I remind them what I am thankful for. I raised my daughter to show the same respect that I do for our men and women that have served and are serving our country that is so great and my son will learn the same as my daughter did. I love all who served for this country and I may not know you and you may not know me but I love you and I have the most upright respect for you. THANK YOU for your service. God bless the USA

ALWAYS thank those who have served! My 31 year old son has done this since he was 5. Grandpa, a Marine veteran, taught him so. Proud Mom here ❤

So so touching. A beautiful gesture that belied the reputation of young persons like that of the video. How sincerely grateful I am for young people like these. My husband was a Vietnamese war vet. He was treated so poorly. These young men have proven how character can win out and give us a true blessing.

I'm a vet. Barely missed Vietnam. This is a beautiful story. I somehow anticipated the outcome, but I understand Jack's initial reaction. ANY trained soldier, Marine, Airman, or Sailor will react as he did. Love you young Marines! Thank you from an ancient Army Airborne Trooper! Respect!
