I love how at the beginning the king seems tired and disengaged, but as soon as shit gets real he wakes tf up and when Zigzag tries extorting him he calls that shit right out with no hesitation.
Miramax didn't need to give Yum Yum a stereotype Disney princess personality, she already had a personality of her own before they butchered her. She's actually happy with her royal life (except for Zigzag's endless thirst for her), she can reason with people with & without violence, loves flower arrangements, is willing to break all of her shoes so Tack could extend his purpose, has a sense of humor (after seeing how Tack made Zigzag a fool of himself), and cares about saving her kingdom.
can I say I LOVE the brigands? the scene they start in is so mellow and quiet, cause they're just bummed out due to not having any raids in 3 decades. then once they hear a caravan is on the way, they're literally tumbling over each other in pure excitement.
Of all the projects that deserve a KICKSTARTER campaign, finishing this lost masterpiece to the creator's original specifications would be a fantastic and worthy project. This is one of the most amazing, original and creative animated films ever undertaken. Williams holds the record for taking the longest time to finish a movie- this was his shining gem of a film, and really does deserve a proper polishing.
The really sad part about this whole movie is that it was almost finished. The Thief and the Cobbler needed roughly 6 months of hard work to complete it. Alas, with all the time and money that was put into it, the project had to be rushed out to theaters and the result is one of cinema’s greatest tragedies...
I really love the thief character. He's like a weird little rodent man. Like he has no ambition besides "Steal shiny thing" and treats it as seriously as the others treat the threat of invasion.
4:45 wow, all these years later this scene finally makes sense to me. In some countries, the punishment for theft is having your hand/s cut off. Plus he was caught in the act so this punishment was immediate.
The "cutting off hand(s) as punishment for theft in certain cultures" was something I learned at probably too early an age XD Ironically enough, it was while watching Aladdin, and when I asked my dad why the merchant tried to cut off Jasmine's hand, he literally explained it to me flat out (gotta' love brutally honest parents)
Kayleigh Brown There is no need to angry. I was mearly stating that you already had the answer to your question. So please do not take offense when someone is attempting to help you.
I saw the gif set on tumblr and I questioned why Tac was tanned until now because he was outside in a desert omg I love how they did that hes even more adorable now gooosshhhh.
For some reason as a kid i though he had on like makup or powder which was why he was so pale. The stuff had come off in the desert so that made him lighter. Then at the end when him and the princess get married that was him with a tan, because he's darker than her at the wedding.
The Thief is like the lovechild of Gollum’s Persian cousin and Scrat from Ice Age and for some reason I find him strangely adorable Also, I absolutely love the brigands, they’re hilarious and endearing at the same time, which isn’t easy to achieve with such minor characters And last of all, the King being outraged at ZigZag wanting to marry his daughter was a lovely subversion of the pushover monarch trope, it’s nice to see a fictional king who doesn’t just cave in to whatever his Vizier wants God this film is just a masterpiece
I think that its part of his evolution. He starts off as a monochrome, Tim Burton-esque doll like character that stands out drastically with the rest of the colorful world, but gradually becomes more human-like in proportions and skin tone until the end when he's fully a natural skin toned human.
@@animefan77 I figured it was either just a coloring error or they simply tweaked his design last minute and couldn't go back to repaint his skin in the previous scenes XD
As soon as the Brigands appear the animation gets very Richard Williams-y. But One-Eye and his kingdom are pure Ralph Bakshi. Actually, the brigands almost look like Richard Williams interpretations of Ralph Bakshi characters.
So just clarify (correct me if I’m wrong) Tak is Aladdin Yum Yum is Jasmine Zig Zag is Jafar The Thief is Abu Fido is Iago The witch is Genie The nanny is Raja
You know that handbook I should not clip to a friend once and he pointed out how funny this is more so than I thought... thing is a bloody dictionary which is funny that that's their sacred text but even more funny is the fact that Caravan and charge couldn't be further away from each other in a dictionary!
Now I see where the animators of Zelda CDI got their inspiration from. Their work didn't ... quite match the skill displayed here, of course, but the general impression is very similar. All these random zooooms on the character's mouth, distorted proportions, constant fluid movement.
@@tobbs5410 Noone is saying he's worthless. He's a somewhat simple character but there's definite charm to his simplicity. He's pro active, has obvious drives and what little personality he has, it's told well through his animation. He is nothing wrong with this type of character when done well. The thief is just funnier. It's just slapstick done very well. Plus he has an endearing design.
@@tobbs5410 ... I literally just said he wasn't a bad character. I said he was a simple character but that's fine because he's done well and it fits the story? Why are you being so needlessly defensive with someone agreeing with you. If you're like this with everyone, I'm not really surprised you've been yelled at.
Is there a reason that from 2:50 on there is the same muscial track there as in the Beatles movie Help when that chick is trying to steal the ring from Ringo as he is sleeping?
Does no one in this land have blood? The soldier died full of arrows and no blood - and then the guards fall for the backscratcher trick - while he doesn't bleed. Cause ALL limbs justfall down like dried out tree limbs when you cut them apparently.
I thinks that the song where what happens when you don’t finish school from the princess and the cobbler was a bit necessary for telling us who the brigands are because at first we would probably think they are barbarians but the song does clarify who they are a bit
Why did the cobbler's skin change color? Which design of his is supposed to be the final one? In the last scene of the movie, his face seems to change too; it's less round and cute X).
