@Samuel Troxel I’m 6’0 and 138 lbs and placed in state (I have bad knees, I never threw any successful double legs in tournaments). I practiced ONE throw and ONE pinning position on the floor. Know what moves work for you and practice it everyday. Mine are the head-n-arm and cradle. Even got invited to nationals after placing 🤷🏻♂️. You got it ☝🏼
Wrestling tall kids sucks because they never take shots or do much of anything but defense. This was good in helping me know what taller kids may do so I can counter.
I was an All State wrestler in Oklahoma in 1983. I was 5'11" tall. My nemesis in HS was 6'3" tall and had arms so long he could stick me in a cradle FROM A STANDING POSITION. Body geometry was against me! That kid beat me 5 times.
Coming into my freshman wrestling year as a 6’6” heavyweight. The only thing I do that he doesn’t recommend is tie-ups but I mainly use them as setups for throws or picks or single legs
6’2 at 220 and this helped but I’m still needin to find ways to use my length to my advantage against some of the fat short kids because I already got down going against the tall built kids cuz they’re just like me, even playing field but those little guys like I gotta get so low it’s annoying
Hey man. If you don't mind me budding in to give advise. Leg trips work very well with height, and elbow passes paired with the outside single work great as well.
love I just found you.. my sons 13 years old, 6 foot one and 150 pounds and he lost to a wrestler and the wrestler recommended all of the stuff that you were talking about to my son
put on some weight and weights i recommend some muscle milk that helped for me and also the weight room bench power clean squat they all help i’m telling you
I had the same exact measurements. I didn’t do that well and a big part of it was because both my coaches were hella stocky. Listen to him. If you extend your back leg back you’ll get lower. Ankle shots are easier then a double because ankle shots you can bend your back more. On a double when you get back up to lift them you’ll won’t be able to because you won’t be underneath them. Stay out of the collar tie, use footwork and get the ability to clear ties.
