Thanks for the video mate. I've lived in my Landy for 7 years in Africa. What I have learnt is that if you're going to be travelling long term, rather than a week or two of holidaying in one place, its best to concentrate on time and effort required to setup and pack away more than anything else, as most days you're on the move. If you raise a sweat/your heart rate in setup/putting away then it's not optimised. It takes me 7 minutes from being in bed to driving, having eaten breakfast and with a coffee in hand. Kind regards, Darrin
Gday Ronny, my wife, kids and I have done a reasonable amount of camping. Our method of showering is a 2lt milk bottle, with some small holes in the lid. We mix some warm water in and tip it up wet yourself, them soap up and rinse. Often wash my hair as well. Most times the 2lts will be enough for 2 of us.
I tried many things over 25 years. Best for me is simple ground tent and one for kids. Water jugs and a engel fibreglass icebox. Everything else, fridges, swags, has had endless problems and expense. Keep it simple. 4 of us, one landcruiser, everything fits, works and is light. No trailers to store. Already have a boat and trailer, but prefer taking kayaks on roof. We are ready in no time, while our friends are getting organised and look at us in awe at how cheap and quick our setup is while theyre banging in huge pegs for their trailer tents, yet we have been around australia several times, while theyre back to work to pay for the stupid camper trailers and electronics and expensive car.
good episode and love twilight cove. I use a fold up toiled seat that a plastic bag clips on to, when you are done, just tie the bag up and throw it on one of your friends back seat.... 😀
Great episode Ronny and the questions a lot of people have. I am all about the shovel but looking into chem throne as it is becoming a requirement to camp in national parks. Cheers 🍻
Pooping with the ET (the wee shovel Ronny has) fold out the spade 90 degrees, lock it in place and pop it under one butt cheek as a seat. If you get real fancy, open the pick at 90 degrees and it holds your bog roll. Worked a treat out field for many years.
Great episode! I had assumed the pod trailer would have a pop up roof so you can stand. Also surprised no awning. I think I’d want both if I’m towing a trailer. Think the off-ground swag set up was my preference as a result.
Great vid but would love to get ideas on ute tub setups. i have a rolltop cover. All other options shown are easy with the room and money to buy all that, finding space in the ute with a platform, there's the challenge for you to solve... (without buying a camper trailer)
I like ideas from each camp but I like the ability to set camp up as a base station so I can come and go as I please. Favourite set up was when we had several quikshades setup in the middle creating a huge 6x6m area for camp kitchen and Esky/fridges. If you need power just run a solar blanket
I like Ben's simple and easy. As he said "simple basic" other than the roof top tent. I am older and have to get up a couple times a night more time for Beer also make top tent less desirable
Is that a double or single crash pad? I thought they only did the elevated stretcher for singles. I’d also like to know how you get the table to store under the roof rack. Thanks for running through these different camp options though.
The older I get the more comfort I want/need so the pod setup would be the one I would pick and since we generally tow a trailer anyway, that side of it doesn't bother me. The days of 2 man tents and sleeping on the ground with just a sleeping bag are long gone :)
we as a family of 5 are using a rtt on a trailer. since corona a chem toi is always with us. your new chapter intros are nice but a bit to loud... cheers
Agreed - that would be a popular video I'm sure! I'd especially like to know more about the rules in WA. Likely a short video would suffice. Perhaps a state by state video series as Ronny does his big lap road-trip..?
You do know it´s close to freezing back in old DK, don´t you? How much do you love talking to your old friends up there this time of year, bragging about how hot it is down under? ;) Nice episode, though - it´s really useful learning about the pros and cons of different setups- and how to bog is also useful ;) - I have one plead, though - please drop the volume of those intermission bits, they blow my speakers when I set them to when I can just hear your dialogue...
Front Runner roof trays (at least some) have the table storage feature. Alternatively a roll up table (or two) can be a lower cost space saving / easy to stow alternative - but they will take a minute to set up and pack down.
Interesting idea, anyone have or know of a platform so you could sleep on your swag on the roof of your car? Saves you having a rtt on there full time,
Likely any long-enough (2000 mm) roof tray. Of course, you'd have to remove the Maxtracks etc, etc first. So easier to just pop the swag on a comfy stretcher I'd say..
ron you need to see pivot bio truck from sparks motors diesel bros. That truck can still be your invention for aussieland whole. the trick is the ride height/work height. That there truck is the solution for travel trough the continent. yes thank me with a lot of cash lol
Agree awesome awning and unsupported on a beach with gusts. Must be quality product. Would like to see the same in other sizes that are also squared up like that! What’s the brand - cheers Ronny Ryan
Funny how most of the guys say "dig a hole to poo". $20US says that only works when the significant other isn't around. Tell a woman she has to squat in the bush and she'll fly the bird about camping with you.
Yeah, some dont care but yeah others wont do it ahahaha, now i have a chemical toilet and a see to summit outhouse, its a dry bag for ya dunny roll ahahah i wont go back ahahaah
Sorry, but that trailer is a real trade down from a Patriot in terms of durability & function. Be interesting to see how it serves you in the long term.
Surprised to see people still digging holes to have a shite considering camp toilets are easily available these days. It does explain the blight of toilet paper scraps prevalent in many camping spots without toilet facilities.
I thought the same thing, the music was loud and over shadowing and reminded me of something an edgy teen would make.. but I do like the concept of show casing different camp options.
💯 content is good, the editing and flicking, flashing, zooming in and out and cutting of every sentence is terrible. Save the editing for commercial tv and rethink your RU-vid viewers and why they watch through yt.
What was in the shower tent as a dunny?? Obviously not a hole... haha. I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone carrying a compost toilet yet, maybe they are and I just haven't seen it.
@@benlatta9006 that was my guess, but chem toilets have liquid and rocking around on tracks... yeah potential for spillage. Composte have no liquid, just seems like the logical choice.
I'm a really old bastard, though still stunningly attractive. I like it simple. My knees don't work that well. Too much sport. My wife has to answer the call of nature at odd times. Neither of us enjoy climbing up or down ladders, particularly when half pickled. Despite this we travel around to the extremely remote places that Ronnie hasn't even thought of yet. And we've done all these things a long time ago; way, way beyond Ronnie's dreamtime. We love, and normally sleep on the ground with just a tarp for cover. If things are a bit inclement; then we put up our 1 pole 9foot x9 foot tent. we throw our mattress, sheets and covers in there in one half. the other half we get changed in, whilst standing up, and throw other gear in as well. This type of sensible camping is NEVER included in all these dumb-assed shows. We all love you Ronnie, but you still have a lot to learn. Nameste.
