funny how everyone here is magically a fucking scientist.

What bothers me isn't dying, it's that I won't get to see how everything turns out. How far society ends up advancing, or when/if we go extinct, how far we'll end up exploring and settling, if we'll meet and interact with intelligent life... it's like watching part of a really enthralling movie and having to leave before the ending...

There are 2 types of people which would want to live forever: 1) The people who want to help this world. 2) People who want to destroy the humanity.

I want to live forever, not because I'm afraid of death but to see what humanity evolves to. There will be so many new technologies, new Ideas of Art and of Life, humans will explore the universe, start colonizing other planets, maybe create planet like building's and live on them. The future is really exciting and human progress is infinite.

I vote yes on beating death. When the mind has more than 100 years to grow and learn we could do more incredible things to advance our race. The ultimate goal, in my opinion, would be space travel where we don't have to worry about our own mortality. Nanobots are already working on the solution to infinite fuel and other resources we would need. But if we could infinitely travel through space we could uncover so much about the multiverse and answer questions we never even had. It sounds like an awesome time.

I don't wanna sound as a greedy mad scientist, but think about this: If millionaires, private, public and scientific companies all around the world would work together and fund these projects, putting aside scientific ethics politics that hold us back and idk, maybe being able to experiment with imprisoned serial killers, rapists and kidnappers or even volunteers. I assure you, we would reach that goal and beat dead in less than a 100 years.

I find it amazing how many people say they wouldn't want to live forever, even people like Trace who probably don't believe in an afterlife. Perhaps it's a coping mechanism, and perhaps thats healthy, but I'm pretty sure I could find things to keep me interested in life for far longer then the piddly 70-100 years that must people live. I could stay interested in life for hundreds or thousands of years at least, watch technology change, travel to new planets, all kinds of stuff. I say nuts to getting old and dyeing. There is no upside to it.

Immortality WILL happen. It's inevitable. Humans have just got live long enough to find the answer to it. I myself am only 19 now, i've made the decision to open up a life insurance in the form of cryonics when I start my career. I believe that it's only like 250k for a full body preservation and it can be paid by insurance (also still being paid after you're dead). Hopefully when my time comes, i'll have the option to 'reanimate myself every 10 years' so I can see how humanity is coming along. Right now if you choose cryonics, you only have the option to do it once you're confirmed dead and will have to wait for the technology to bring you back to life.

So I guess I don't want to live here forever because the idea of an afterlife becomes void. But I wish humans had a lifepsan of say, 300 years. More time to learn more about the world. 50 - 80 years just isn't enough

In my honest opinion, death could possibly be a theory. we only say death is inevitable because we've always known people to die, however we haven't seen EVERYONE die. then again I'm sure the immortals would've spoken up by now.

I don't think you'll ever reach a point in life where you're like "nah, I'm good". Some people may, if they are seriously sick and living with chronic pain, but what they are really saying is "I don't want to live in pain" not "I want to die". Therefore, if people could live healthy for as long as they liked, they would. I know I certainly would. We put the concern with death away from us as much as we can and think that some day we will be tired of live, but imagine yourself 90 years old but perfectly healty without any pain and able to do all the things you are able to do now. Would you really want to die? Would you really be tired of life if life is still the same to you as it is right now? And lastly, why die when there is so much to learn and experience since the universe could be, for all we know, infinite.

I think the best way to be immortal if the work was focused on would not be robotics but faster cell regeneration and cloning (replace bad parts, not whole human cloning).

Personally, I don't want to live forever. I have no fear of death itself, only to die feeling unfulfilled in life and being forgot after I am gone. I've come to accept that, no matter what I do, I will die in the end.

I don't want to live forever, but at least i have the power to live whenever i want. So, when i have done everything, i could rest in peace with the highest satisfaction of life that i have ever had. Since colon cancer and Crohn’s disease took away 29 years of my life (from the age of 20, until, now, at 49, I’ve had 33 surgeries, and spend many, many years hospitalized), and I want it back! On the plus side, I survived 3 rounds of cancer and my colon rupturing which killed me for 2 minutes, but, it took, away my entire adult life, SO, Mother Nature owes me 29 extra years! Since I have less then 5% of my entire GI tract left, I can be kept alive on fluid alone, as I can’t really eat much food, and depend on supplements and vitamins to grow and live. Since I can increase or decrease the exact nutrients my body absorbs....if I can find the right formula to keep my cells healthy and young (If our cells stay young, so will we), I honestly believe I’ll easily pass the 100 year mark. While I’m 49, since I finally stopped having surgery my body has had the chance to recover.....I’ve been asked for ID at 5 bars in the last few months, and when I tell them I’m 49, no one believes me.....2 of those bars refused to let me in, I had to call the cops to prove to them I’m as old as I said....it’s weird, I thought I looked like shit, but in the last few months (my finial surgery was about 10 months ago), my skin has tightened, without using any lotions or any products except Dove hand soap. Most people who meet me guess my age at between 20-27, I love seeing their faces when I show them my ID...I only hope it stays this way for a very long time...maybe god is giving me a gift for surviving so much torture, and it was absolutely torture!!! I never had the chance to attend university because of my illness, but my high school standardized test in grade 12 said my IQ was 155 (I still have a hard time believe that)...in any case, I’m putting it to the test and am researching, now that I’m forced to retire young, the specific formula needed to find the real fountain of youth. I’m the type that needs someone in my life, not sure if I’d be happy living past 100 if it means being alone.

I think that wanting to live for ever depends a lot in how much you appreciate life, how much you enjoy it, how much you like what you do here in Earth and how much people you love and enjoy being with. I would certainly enjoy living at least two hundred years, mainly because I reaaaaally want to have at least a sneak peak of the technology advances of the future humans.

I'm not saying death is advisable or great in any way but it might be more fun than immortality. well fun or sad... but definitely novel! say your body disintegrates and turns into nothing. "you" are neither nothing or have consciousness. with infinite time and space the only thing nothingness can do is attempt to regain consciousness. whether you resurrect as a human or animal or alien or planet or whatever, you have to start from scratch and develop a new understanding of your world with no past experiences. that sounds exciting and novel.

The problem with copying consciousness is that it is just that. Copying, not moving. If it ever becomes a possibility, your consciousness will live on as a different entity, but you yourself will die with your body, not having experienced all the things that your consciousness will. Your consciousness will essentially become a different person with different experiences than your own. Think of it as copying a folder on your computer. Now you have to copies, they may function the same and carry the same information, but they occupy two entirely different places on your hard drive.

As oppotunistic animals, we humans are lazy therefore if we'd be immortal that would be really counter productive since we'd just limit ourselves to sustaining ourselves and always postpone stuff since theres always a tomorrow hence why immortality will never be attained or only reserved to the richest.

I Died 4 Times and came back the only thing happened was seeing my identical twin brother who died 3 weeks after our birth and my father both telling me it's not my time I told this to my doctors and to my family there was no tunnel no light of any kind just darkness going going like a tunnel then being in a place of comfort but I didn't want to go but I felt myself drawn back to my body. Several times over I was told I wasn't ready to go now that was weird in so many levels! ^¥^
