I have been using Shark bites since they were available for purchase to install water treatment equipment and never had one leak if you debur the copper pipe.
@manny9323
@manny9323 Год назад
The people who complain about them are plumbers upset that they can’t charge $400 for something that would take 15 minutes with shark bites, or DIYers who say “eh, I don’t need a cutter or deburr tool, I can just use my hacksaw and deburr with the box cutter!” and then have leaks. They’re code approved for walls and burial. Do it right and there’s no problem. If soldered pipe never leaked plumbers would only work on new construction sites.
@TheMr69roadrunner
@TheMr69roadrunner 10 месяцев назад
@@manny9323 honestly bro plumbers never debur pipe. I have yet to see it happen in the 4 years of plumbing. I’ve been at 2 different companies too. Sharkbites are convenient for cpvc to copper, when the other methods are threading plastic into copper or brass threads which always leaks eventually yet is considered a permanent fix lmao. You just gotta have finesse is the biggest thing I’ve noticed/learned in the trades. You can do something the proper way the code book says but if you suck and got no finesse you’re still gonna have ugly or leaking joints etc.
@am3rikan84
@am3rikan84 9 месяцев назад
@@manny9323shark bite is not approved for commercial or burial. Idk what state you’re in but in Florida and Texas they are not allowed. Just be a man and learn to soldier. Or pro press. Takes 3 minutes to soldier. Shark bites have barely been around so you have no idea the problem they can have over years of use. Just like poly-b. Takes time to see the problems. Shark bites are a last resort. Only because they go off of the putter diameter of the pipe, meaning they can be used to get off of polybutylene onto copper, cpvc.

What's funny is that I've seen enough of your shorts to now know you've changed your recommendations. Don't crimp the pex with the teeth of the pliers, use the handle. Measure the bend in the solder based on the dimension of the pipe so you know you're using enough. This is not a dig or negative comment, I'm personally happy with myself for recognizing that, since it means I'm paying attention.

As a boiler change out/install tech daily there is a perfect method for soldering on the vertical either to brass or copper. My trick is to never solder joint while tourch is on the joint at the same time. So il heat up the fitting i want the capillary action to go to and once the joint starts dripping out flux down the pipe il take the tourch and burn it off and then go back up to fitting with tourch and once you find that sweet spot of temperature il wait one or 2 seconds with no heat on it then itll glide right up that joint with no runs and no leaks even with the 180 degree water. @Jetmech-tg4hl I'd say you're right. Especially with manufacturing today cutting corners every way they can. Can't we just get back to quality products that don't let us down!?
@reds815
@reds815 Год назад
@Jetmech-tg4hl I've been thinking. Dangerous, right? Haha. I wonder if the expansion rings or the fittings came from Home Depot? The only time I have ever seen a failure was a home supplied plastic 90 from Home Depot. The 90 was a touch to small, and the fitting leaked. Went back the next day with one of our fittings and fixed it. So I was curious.

You always pull the plastic flare ring Out of the shark bite That goes to the c p v c Or pex pipe And you leave it in the shark bite when You're hooking it to copper .

You can use the crimpers to make the ring stay in place.

If you absolutely have to use a shark bite, I find that they grab on copper way better then pex. So get a shark bite that has one end threaded, then put a pex fitting on that.

Stainless steel rings are guaranteed to leak over time. Never use them. The black crimp rings are the way to go. Push to connect should only be used in places that aren't sealed in a wall.

Oetiker clamps are good enough for automotive uses, what makes you think they'll leak for household uses? Unless crimped improperly.

When I flipped my house I used pex and sharkbite when those seemed relatively new to me.. I just kinda went and picked up sharkbites 1 or 2 at a time as I needed them, and after a couple of weeks when I was finished I realized I spent like $400 on sharkbite fittings. :(

Shark bites should never be used for anything other than a temporary fix... they fail way too often for the risk to be worth it. I definitely prefer Viega pex if I'm going to run plastic, fittings are a bit more expensive but the collar and tool are super convenient

Code clearly protects the home or business from unseen damage by not allowing those very convenient fittings to be installed in in accessible locations.

Sharkbite for the obvious win. It's been tested in debunking vids and has a large money warranty if it fails. The company obviously trusts it. Every plumber that hates it only hates it cus it means it saves people money while taking money from the plumbers.
