Just stumbled across you guys. Omg....we are from Loughborough....and we were the former landlords of the Boat inn where your boat was moored up before buying our own boat after COVID. We will be following you guys.good luck in your new adventure
Hey Gareth, Oh wow! That's so funny. We were just back there the other day actually remembering the day we first got the boat. We ended up ripping out the whole of the inside and giving it to the pub for planters outside. Thanks for joining our journey :)
Good luck .......You are living in a project!! There is no room for turning back, just forge forward. Get your sleeping areas comfortable, as without sleep you will never finish the work internally. The living area is likewise, somewhere to sit comfortably. Leave the trim wall panels until last - It is like moving into a half finished house, no rest until the work is finished - Blood and Sweat is fine ....but no tears, promise me!! You will do it and do it well!!!
Hey!! Thats a great tip about the beds, it's a must, especially with a little one. We promise, no tears! only a few from when I (Doug) have to empty the cassette toilet. I really am not good with smells but I will learn. Thanks for watching.
That’s great news to hear. I’m a live-aboard boater of 7 years and wish you all the best for the future. One day at a time is the order of the day and don’t try to rush things. I’m moored at Barrow upon Soar and I’m sure I saw you pass by a few days ago, and one of my lock keeper colleagues at Barrow Deep Lock mentioned that you went through there too. Keep the videos coming. Oh, and Sage is adorable.
Ah yes we were around there a few days ago! We walked down to Barrow while Sage was napping to get some tips from John and Andrew who were a massive help! Lovely guys. Hopefully see you back there soon
Hi Doug, Chrissy and Sage. Wow it looks as if you’ve got a lot of work ahead of you. Sounds like a wise decision to base yourself in the marina while you get sorted. Take care. Nick
Hey just stumbled across your channel. Great that you’ve taken the plunge and nothing nicer than making it your home. We’ve had our nb for just over a year but not live aboards altho we’d love to. We’re touching 60 and not sure if I have the guts to leave everything and do it altho I’d love to. It’s only a 48ft to so not that big. Maybe one day but until now we love every minute we have on her. Enjoy your new life. 👍🙏
Thanks so much! Have you thought about renting out your home for a year and giving it a go? We would struggle with 48ft but then there are three of us. Hopefully see you on the cut!!
@@TheCanalBoatFamily unfortunately don’t have a home to rent out!!! Never mind… we love our weekends and holidays afloat. We’re down in the fens so maybe it will take a while for our paths to cross! Good luck on your venture and will keep tuning in 🙏
Congratulations on your new canal boat home! I know it all must seem so daunting for you to know how much has to be done, but just take one day at a time, and take people up on their offers for help or advice. It will be a huge learning curve for you, but you can do it! You’ve got this! Take care, 🇨🇦
Hey! Thanks so much for that, everyones being so supportive and helpful and we will be forever grateful. We have been known in the past to just say "No, we will be fine. Thanks anyway" but the connections you make from accepting help from people are priceless! Hopefully one day we can pass on all the knowledge gifted to us to someone else in need.
how fun to find a new narrowboat channel with a family! I'll be following you from North America somewhere. Looking forward to seeing you two become old hands at boating!
Hi Chrissy, Doug & Sage (what a lovely name). Firstly, just want to tell you Sage is gorgeous. Another family with a toddler on the cut, how exciting. I’m the other end of the scale, 7 years off retirement, with a life on the cut being my goal. Saving hard at the moment & watching every narrowboat DIY renovation video I can find. All the best with developing your new home and keep smiling. Best wishes Helen & Barney 😀🐕🦺
Thanks so much Helen and Barney and how exciting! We did exactly the same thing, watching everything we could to get all the inspiration. Good luck with everything and hopefully see you on the cut soon!!
Congratulations on moving aboard. You are the second couple with a young child in tow (see Holly the Cafe Boat). My first question for you is how do you plan to dispose Sage's nappies?
Hey!! Holly the Cafe Boat were our inspiration to start the channel and following them really gave us hope that we could make it work with a child. Very good question...so we used reusable nappies from birth until we got onto the boat and we're really sad to change to disposables but it just didn't seem sensible to try and do this on the boat. We have started potty training Sage so hopefully it won't be too long until we won't need to worry anymore. While we are in a marina its not such a big problem and once we start cruising our plan is to pop her poos in the cassette toilet and dispose of them as normal and then just get rid of our bin bags as quickly as possible. Are you a fellow boat owner?
@@TheCanalBoatFamily Not quite yet... We plan on moving to the UK (from the Pacific Northwest USA) by mid 2024, and are planning on building a Middle Beam-10' boat and have composting toilets. I'm vexed as to what to do with the waste we plan on storing aboard until it's ready to discard. And seeing how you and the Café Boat have children, I wondered what you did with it. You guys have your work cut out for you , and I look forward to seeing and hearing your stories. Good Luck .... and have fun!
Best decision you'll make staying in a marina for a while. You'll get to know your boat without the worry of power, water, food or waste. Also you'll be on first name terms at the chandlery before too long.😁
For the oven, take all the glass and metal shelves, wrap each one in tin foil, and put in a bath of very hot water with 3 -4 dishwasher tablets for a few hours. The grease will then just lift off, due to the chemical reaction 😊
Great to see how exciting all this is, " I'm driving a boat", a 360 very impressive 👏 I chuckled at Benny Hill and can imagine the fast forward speed of things..maybe the 180 into 360! 😂 Ultimately well done! Great job! Looking forward to next instalment. Best of luck to you all!
Hi guys. Just found you, lovely vlog! We are Howard & Noah originally also from Brighton but now live in Eton near Windsor. We had our widebeam in Pillings for a year, and spent many happy times there. Speak to Shelia or Giovanni in the office and get Steve to help with the work needed. He works and lives on the Marina. Very knowledgeable and completed a complete refit on our boat last year which we were really happy with. We moved the boat down to a marina in West Drayton last June to be near home. Let me know how you get on. Good luck!
Wishing you guys so much good luck and many blessings on your new adventure. And don’t forget to collect those conkers in the Autumn! Great fun to collect, especially for little Sage, AND they keep spiders away (they don’t like the smell… apparently). Take care, and hope the refitting/decorating goes well whilst you’re staying put for a while.
Hey Jerry, thanks for the tip! Chrissy just ran out of the boat in search of conker, she is not a fan of our little eight legged friends but she is getting used to them slowly. I think we may have to wait a couple of months yet though :)
Hey Hi Gang I'm David Wow a new Narrowboat Channel to watch looking forward to getting to know you wish you best of luck see you next week look forward to the next Vlog my best David :)
Thank you so much! Yeah definitely - going to take our time with it - plus need to make sure we have the funds available + we have work too - its a juggle haha
Congratulations! I’ve just discovered your channel but look forward to following along from Australia as you make her your own and set off on your new adventure!
Hi Claire, thanks so much for watching and following along. We are out in Australia a lot as we both have family over there! Have you ever been to the UK?
Hello I just stumbled across your utbe and popped in to wish your little family a wonderful boat life ..your living my dream we dont have canals in Australia love from Down under 🇦🇺🤗
Hey Ruth! We have always wanted to visit Canada and it's one of the many places we are yet to travel to so we might be shouting at you for advice soon! All the best
We are a family from New Zealand about to arrive in the UK to find a boat! Very exciting and love seeing what you are doing. My one concern, not at all boat buying related is about how cold it is at night! Aren't you in the middle of summer?!
Hey Kate, at the moment it's warm over here so we can't comment on the winter yet but there are a lot of options out there to stay warm. We have a Webasto heater on the boat and plan to put a log burner in as well before the winter! When do you move over? Let us know if there is any way we can help at all or if you have any specific questions about the buying process!
@@TheCanalBoatFamily Thanks so much that would be really helpful. Just sorting a few things but potentially end of July, right in time for Autumn ! I will definitely get in touch when we arrive as have a few questions :) Oh and we have that same stove top coffee machine in NZ and we had to laugh as it also took us awhile to get a handle on it !
