Wanted to add another view--never gets old watching this series. That's why I'm still a huge fan of the old format. You all are truly blessed, I lost my Donnie hunting partner in 2011. Still have the memories, but hunting Elk isn't the same.

fun to watch. I was Idaho guide in the 80's. I'm 73 now and wanting to finally learn the diaphragm. Headed to Idaho now. Middle Fork is my heaven. Just going in to be there and try and bring one in. I've had to scare one off like that when hunter freaked out. Nothing comes close . Thanks for the film.

Guys you do an amazing job. Last year I took up archery to become a bow hunter as its really gripped a passion in my life. I live in the UK and dream of Elk hunting and bow hunting in UK is against the law..I have harvested deer with a rifle but by bow is bac k to basics. I train most nights and won county archery target comps your equivalent of state champs. I have my 3d targets and practice from my tree stand and from most shots to expect in the field. My g5 montecs are tuned to my shafts and ready to do there job. I just want to say i can t wait to come to A merica to hunt and appreciate the wildlife. Even in the UK some of us dream of a chance to experience what you guys do. So in the meantime i say thanks for keeping my dream alive....

My first and only elk I shot with a bow was in 2015. Being new to bowhunting (6 years) I can feel all the emotions when watching this video. I keep getting closer and closer. Each year, I seem to get closer to filling my tag and feeling the reward of all the hard work I am putting in. Not because I am in the right place at the right time, but because I am actually learning how to get close in order to seal the deal. Thank you Corey for your insight and instruction. In 2019, I had three encounters within 100 yards; one within 60 (broadside), but just too far for me to feel comfortable with. These are all in high pressure, public access areas where it just seems like the only thing the elk want to do is go the other way. My elk in 2015, was awesome, but I am ready to shake off the dry spell. I am right there with your Corey. I haven't had any shots in the last 4 years, but I feel it coming. I am studying my situations, practicing my calling, and I feel it is just around the corner.

Wow this is such a great episode. It was difficult for me to start hunting because no one in my family has ever hunted. I felt a little isolated because most women my age don’t partake in this sport, but I’ve been so lucky to have supportive friends and people to look up to! I love watching these videos, it motivates me even more to pursue this passion despite feeling like an “outsider”! Thanks for these wonderful episodes!

I've hunted elk for 30ish years in Colorado, mostly rifle. We relocated to Oregon 2 years ago and I have not been hunting sense (elk that is, I've hunted Turkeys and Ducks). Way back when, I picked up a Bear Whitetail II bow (yeah - it was a long time ago) and chased Elk in CO for a couple of seasons with it. Came close on a cow one time 3 years back but didn't get an opportunity for a shot. I promised myself that I would not hunt here in OR until I was ready, in shape and proficient with the bow. I've been getting into shape physically, getting close to being ready. After this episode, well now it seems like a good time for me to get serious for next fall! Great episode! Congrats.

The thing i love about you and your hunting style is, how raw and real you are .. You guys show how REAL hunting is ! the ups and downs .. there are different hunting outfits out there that make it seem like there are 400 inch bulls running everyhwere, and they just come running in everyday .. You keep us normal hunters motivated and coming back for more ! Thanks corey !

That was the most incredible footage of listening to that elk breathing as it was coming in, and then to watch him open his mouth and lip curl was incredible. Great video! Amazing how close that Elk came in. I have been hunting on and off in California for about 8 or 9 years off and on unfortunately mostly off! In all of this time I have only shot one Black Tail deer, it was a 60 yard shot with my Hoyt Intruder. This bow is very old and very heavy. I bought it from a co-worker and he had it passed down to him from his dad. I love to go hunting so much and archery is something so amazing every time I get the chance to shoot it gives me this feeling unlike anything else. Thanks for sharing this hunt! I hope to get a new bow sooner than later and go hunting in Idaho for some Elk and possibly Mule deer!

I stumbled on to your channel and feel like I just won the lotto. Lifelong New York and New Jersey hunter. I picked up a bow about 7 years ago in my late forties. I just can't get enough of it, I all but quit gun hunting. It was always my life's dream to go out west and hunt nonetheless, as a younger man, it was always with a gun in hand. However these days my vision finds myself with a bow in hand. Thanks for all the many hours of great footage and sweat equity. You truly do inspire your audience. Good luck and safe travels.

Don't know exactly what type of story you are looking for but I have a few. I lived in Colorado for over 30 years and I hunted deer for meat as we needed it to get by. My older brother and I went Elk hunting for my first and only time that I ever went but my brother had gotten a 4 X 4 bull the year before. We got up at 5:00 AM and hiked about 4 miles up a mountain to a clearing where he set up and I went on up a short ways further and found a place for myself. It was still dark but I could just make out where there were trees and a clearing so I set up there. It was real quiet on opening morning. It felt good to rest a while and get settled in so I would be ready at daybreak. I was enjoying the moment when I heard a movement behind me and pretty close. I didn't know what it was so I slowly turned around. It was just starting to get light but I could now make out shapes. I peered into the trees and finally could make out that it was an elk, just 50 feet away. I watched for a few minutes and then I saw the antlers which looked to me to be a 5 x 5 bull. I could only see the outline of his head and some of his antlers. I slowly shifted myself around so I could take a shot. He didn't know I was there and my heart was beating like a drum. It took me a little time to get in position and all the while the bull was eating and oblivious to my presence. I slowly raised my rifle and peered through the scope. I still couldn't see his body but his head was now fully visible. I thought , I sure don't want to mess this up cause I may never get another opportunity such as this . I reasoned that a neck shot wasn't the best shot but that was all I had. No one had fired a shot and it was really quiet except for the bull eating. I carefully drew a bead on exactly where I wanted to hit him and opened the season with the first shot as I carefully squeezed the trigger. I expected him to just drop as I had shot a number of deer in the neck and they all just dropped. Not this one. He raised his head abruptly and took of like a shot. I wondered how I could have missed. I was a good shot and usually dropped my game with one shot. I reasoned that maybe elk require more time as they are so much bigger. I went over to where he was standing but there was no blood or any evidence that he was even hit. I really felt that I had messed up but I couldn't think of what I did wrong. I had just blown my hunt. I went back to my backpack and picked it up and moved further on up to the next clearing and sat down. I began to hear others shooting all around me which made me feel even worse. Just about then I heard what sounded like a war just over the high ridge to my right. It was about a thousand yards to the top and I had a good view of the slope on my side of the ridge. After several more shots I spotted an elk running straight down the slope. I reasoned that he was the reason for all the shooting. As he continued down the slope I noticed that he was headed in my general direction so I got ready and when he came within range I shot while he was in a dead run. I was just hoping to somehow hit him. I saw where the bullet hit (of course I missed) so I reloaded and by the time I was ready to shoot he disappeared in the draw at the bottom of the slope. I mumbled to myself, darn, I wanted him. I know he was a bull but I didn't know just how big he was. Then is was as if someone kicked me from behind and said, then go back to the first clearing and shoot him. I don't know how I knew that was right but I picked up my backpack in one hand and my gun in the other and ran back to the first clearing. Just as I got there, I looked up and this bull broke out of the draw and was running full speed across the clearing in front of me. I dropped my backpack , threw a shell into the chamber and fired just before he disappeared behind the hill. I knew that my brother was waiting just ahead of where the bull was headed. I waited for a moment, expecting to hear him shoot, but not a sound. After several minutes, I began to make my way to where I believed him to be but when I got there, I didn't see him. By now the bull would have been long gone. Not wanting to ruin his hunt, I began to search for him. I knew that he must be close but I couldn't find him. I called his name - no answer. I called again and this voice right behind me said what are you yelling about? I turned around to discover that my brother was only a few feet from me. I asked him, why didn't you shoot? He ran right through here. He calmly said come over here, I want to show you something. I followed him for about 30 feet and there on the ground was a nice spike elk. He only had one spike on either side but they were about two feet long. Then the questions began to flow. How did you kill it when I never heard you shoot? Why didn't you answer me when I called your name? How did you sneak up on me? . . . He just said, I heard you shoot, and then I saw the bull heading straight for me. I raised my gun and drew a bead and just as I was about to squeeze the trigger, he fell just a few feet in front of me. He said I didn't kill him, you did with that one shot. I felt so silly. I missed the first bull at 50 feet, I missed the second bull as he was running down the slope, but hit the third attempt of a hurried shot and blew his heart out. I figured out that the reason that I missed the first bull was because my gun was sighted in at 200 yards so I shot over him. This was the only elk I have ever shot. I have wanted to go again many times but now at 75 it doesn't look like it will happen. I still go bow hunting with two of my four sons and have shot a few deer but there is nothing like elk hunting when they are bugling. There are a couple epilogues to this story but I haven't included them here.

After 6 years of archer elk hunting, I have never shot a bull, or an elk for that matter with a bow! I absolutely love archery elk hunting and always dread rifle season. I hunt Wyoming public land with a general tag and one of these years I hope to full fill my dream of shooting an elk with a bow. I know my bow is old, probably 8-10 years old and I'm going to eventually have to get a new one. Winning this bow would be awesome, but I know out of all the comments that my chances are very slim. Anyways, I enjoy watching your videos and it keeps my dreams alive! Keep up the good work!!!

You're not the only one who's been in a slump. My last big game hunt was in 2010!! Had major spinal lumbar fusion surgery Nov. 5th, 2018. I'm 50, soon to be 51. I may never get to pursue my love of hunting again. But...if I was gifted that bow setup for Christmas...I'd make dang sure I was in the woods come 2020. That big boy that came in will be waiting for you next year...when he is even bigger. What a cool experience. With an awesome hunting partner. Sincerely, Dave

Always learn so much from your videos. Appreciate all the time it takes to create the footage. Hopefully your season continues on this same path.

Look at it this way Corey you let the big bull survive so a hunt of of a life time kiddo could get him. Can't wait for that video to drop. It's the one I wait for every year. Love what you guys do for them.

Unbelievable footage. The best I’ve ever seen. Love how raw this hunt was. “It’s not the size of the antlers”

Great video! Way not to get discouraged. And then the second bull coming up was amazing! I have been in the same situation with whitetails. A few years ago I missed 2 nice bucks that were 30yd or less and then messed up on a monster that i couldn't even get the shot on. Was quite a discouraging year but I still kept at it.

What great times in the elk woods! You guys are so inspiring. Great job filling that tag and showing it’s not ALL about the trophy. Thanks for the videos

Enjoyed this vid yesterday morning with my son and morning coffee. Slumps happen to everyone. At the time they can control our mind and be hard to over come as every little negative mishap can weigh heavily. Whether it’s sleeping in, missing a shot, spooking unseen cow it can all add up in our minds and weigh us down. It was a great opportunity and I would of taken the same shot. Yes that 4yrd frontal would of been amazing to take but notching your tag and having the big bruiser hiss in your face will be a memory you will never forget!!

Being in the middle of the elk is why I love archery hunting! I got one of my daughters in the middle of a herd this year. Priceless! I love elk hunting. I took home a spike this year. Its different for everyone but when it's time to fill the freezer, you take the shot that presents itself. Thanks for sharing! Great hunt!

Fantastic!!! I think the look on Donnie’s face when he figured out that he had been fooled was almost as good as the footage of that bull at 4 yards. Since I haven’t filled my elk tag here in North Idaho yet, I’m getting pumped up for later archery starting December 10th. Thanks

I always enjoy the adrenaline rush when a bull answers a call. Having a bull close enough to draw on is totally awesome. And if I ever harvest one that rush would be amazing. But I don't think my heart could take that close of an encounter. Amazing!

Early season 2010 called in my first bull elk. 27 yard yard shot quartered uphill. Everything went great. Shot felt great. Blood trail went dry after 4 hours into the darkness. Spent the whole next day searching for my first bull elk. Ended in being my first loss and an emotional downhill rollercoaster until the next year when talking to other hunters in the area. Come to find out that they had arrowed a bull in the same canyon and harvested that bull. After processing the elk they had found a broken arrow and broad head that did not match any of there own. Since this time I have told myself that I would never pass up a ethical shot at a bull elk no matter what the size. God bless and congratulations!
