Just looks like you don’t take very good care of the interior tbh. I have lemon leather in my bmw and it’s mint after 5 years. I condition it and take caution when exiting the car it looks brand new
All I can say is we did take care of it but you seem to know more about our i8 then me so who am I to say lol it’s stupid comments like this that annoy me.
I think ppl are disappointed or hating on the i8 because they expect it to be a sports and it isn't. It's a grand-touring car for cruising along on the interstate. The quick acceleration is a bonus and the good/great gas mileage is a double bonus. Just gotta set your expectations and it can be satisfying.
TOMMY BEDFORD I love modern classics and great value. With gentlemanly style, sleek design, optional beast mode, and environment conscious I’m pretty confident it’s one of if not the only car in its class and sits shining in the middle. I’m plotting hard on one of these beauties man.
It’s a lease what do you expect. Plus if there were mechanical issues I would have mentioned it. There was nothing misleading about this video. Expectations with always foster resentment. I told you real things we experienced.
I love this car! Incredible how close it is to the concept model. It literally looks like a concept car that’ll never age. Regarding the leather..., denim jeans wear out leather seats, even without large buttons ect.
I just drove one today and even after seeing multiple vids of people that own this and I don’t give a single F of the complaints if I had the money to even afford a used one would totally buy it!
A B should be interesting to see where they kind of plateau in terms of depreciation. I’d say around 50k-55k. Looking into one of these or an RS7. Decisions decision decisions...
I absolutely love this car. I have had it for 6 months and it is exactly what a 50yo woman would drive. Sexy, fast (but drivable), and everyone whether I know them or not wants to take pictures with it. For a guy this would totally be a chick magnet. The interior is so comfortable and like he said, everything is very accessible. I found an easy way to get in and out of the car so that’s not an issue. When you say ‘touring,’ this automobile is the epitome of touring. You want to go on a long trip in this vehicle. I think the good far outweigh the bad. Plenty of fahrfegnugen! Try it out! It’s a hell of a lot of fun and will stay in my arsenal for years to come!
so, I take it you aren't gonna buyout the i8 after the lease? I'm not gonna go find all of the other videos you did on this car, so what has it gone to the dealer for other than routine service? How long did it sit at the dealer to get fixed? What would have been the cost(s) of said fixes if out of warranty? Will the i8 make a good 2nd or 3rd owner car 5 or 6 years down the road? Since you seem to be into Hybrid "supercars", why not seek out the new NSX. Similar concept, but with only 2 seats and report back with the differences btwn it and the i8. And since your leasing it anyways, no biggie, right?
I love the BMW I8. My dad has one. I haven’t been lucky enough to drive it but I have moved it in the drive. It sounds so good and looks amazing. I find it a little bit hard to get in and out of and there isn’t much room when cleaning the inside but overall I like the car
I've never had those issues in my three years of ownership... And I have 35k miles on mine...and you just fall in the seat to get in and use the door handle and pull yourself out...any mid engine or rear engine car is gonna have issues with heat next to storage compartments.
I’m looking to buy a 2015 model with very low mileage less than 10k. Any typical problems I should not be looking forward to? I’m looking to buy an extended warrantee but not sure if anyone provides them for major problems on the vehicle. Please get back to me I would greatly appreciate it thanks
My husband insists you can fit a carseat . 🤦🏻♀️we rented it today to test it out and it’s a lovely car for a couple but definitely not a family weekend car.
Maybe the ones left in 10 years when they other 80% are being parted out because you can't find batteries and other weird essential parts to keep them running. Until then, used ones will be dirt cheap.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH will be very easy to find batteries in the future. May even be able to convert to 100% battery since Germany is required to go green by 2030.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH The technology will be so surpassed in 10 years. I really don't know that the i8 will increase much in value. I know that the mass produced 64 & one half to 66 Mustang has greatly increased in value. And you can get the parts & body shell to all but build a new one. I doubt that the i8 will have this support.
I traded in my 2017 protonic red i8. I put 5000 miles on it in one month. I drove the shit outa it. But i couldn't hang when a scion xb passed me on highway 8 headed into Cali. Love my F80 I traded for.
i drove the tesla model S and bmw i8 today i love the driving experience of the tesla....but the look of the i8 is wayyyyyyyy cooler than the tesla cant decide which one to buy yet.

I hate the fact that BMW’s depreciate in value so fast after warranty. A BMW I8 headlight costs $6000.00 each if you need to replace it. The electronics always have issues after so many miles and it’s not cheap to diagnose and fix. Everyone leases or buys new and sells them after warranty expires. This leads to a flood of after warranty cars on the market that need repairs or shortly after. Wouldn’t be so bad if the replacement parts were cheaper in my opinion.
lol why so many dislikes? this guy is giving his *honest* account of the car and tbh, these are the sorts of people i want to hear from if i ever consider buying a car like this... how is it to live with and clock up 10k+ miles....
Try Panamera, since you ask for idea regarding your next lease. I have enjoyed your review of the i8. Thanks. I am thinking of getting a off-lease i8. Call me cheapskate, but I like saving some cash for other investments. A gently used and certified i8 with extended warranty from BMW will be nice.
Surprisingly these thave dropped greatly in price.. Might consider getting one used. I'm glad I came across this channel to hear about the ugly aspects of owning this car though!
I have a 2016 i8 Pure Impulse. It's been like any other car so it depends-do it yourself oil change/oil filter once a year = $55+$35. Dealer = $250+$150 if done at the same time. Similar with spark plugs. Fuel is really less expensive with 34MPG km the city and 40 on the highway. Unless you drive WOT which I do several drives a week because the car is so much fun flooring through a turn=priceless.
Definitely not a daily driver. I love mine. It does attract attention. It is before its time. Discouraged by the loss in value over time. If I had to decide whether to buy or not, would have wait knowing what I know now. I can handle the chore of getting in and out of the i8. If you wear new jeans, they will leave a blue stain on the white leather. Was able to remove the stain only by using Chemical Guys Inner Clean. I love the thrill of driving the i8, and will be in my garage for a very long time. I am a former Toyota Supra owner (4 different models) and BMW 650i owner.
Darwin Brown Its not my car it’s my family’s so I’m always very careful to never claim something as being mine if it isn’t. To many RU-vidrs are fake and try act rich I’m just a guy who loves cars and has some great opportunities to be around them.
@@antoniogriffin7135 Yep,you would have to take that car to a bmw dealership to be fixed, not a lot of these out there,so parts should be very expensive
The most interesting word you used was, "mundane." A $150,000 hybrid that looks and apprarently drives like a space ship to be called 'mundane' is awesome!
Stop with the hybrid please! You're going to die without driving this car make one bit of difference to the planet or any other human or animal. And one more thing; the planet is just a big ball of rock and mud. We are not here to serve the planet by saving it, and the planet is not here to serve us, except to allow us to use the chemicals and elements we scratch out of the mud beneath us. We will not go on forever, and the planet will eventually turn into a big ball of frozen mud. Now get on with your life and prosper!
@@antoniogriffin7135 honestly i did have to take it to the dealership for multiple different technological issues. But so far they were all just small computer malfunctions. Although irritating i still like the car. I just don't reccomend anyone buy one passed its warranty period. I did have to get new brakes and new tires. Which were pretty pricey. Brake job came up to around 2400. And the tires i dont remember exactly but i wanna say i paid around 1200 or so
Your getting rid of yours before the trouble begins. Very smart move! In 10 years this car will be massively depreciated and who ever owns it will visit the BMW service center a lot. $$$$$$ Camaros, Mustangs and their Mopar brother are built to a standard of toughness like the good old Sherman Tank. North America has more to offer than you might think.
Interesting review. Is the leather Dakota or Merlino grade? I notice that you do not seem to retract your seat all the way back on its track before exiting or entering. That promotes the bolster wear your are experiencing on any BMW with M Sport seating. Interesting you did not comment on the 6AT. 8 speed would be super nice. So would version 7 of iDrive. I do appreciate the space behind the front seats that is abolished when the roadster is chosen. 911 do not have much, nor do Hurracan. Your next renter? For more commodious space for only two, the Portfino. For an alternative hybrid with even less storage space but more emotion, the Acura NSX.
Despite BMW's claims to the contrary, these i8's have been covertly piling to the ceilings at BMW's ports of entry so dealer's can appear not to have a lot of stock. Yet every dealer seems to have several - which is odd for a car that is "SOLD OUT". By spending $3B on the i-car project, BMW shot themselves in the foot by eliminating the flexibility of using different powerplant displacements. They have no way to " down-market " the vehicle to spread the costs around, as they do with EVERY other series. As an EV, owners are reporting a 29 MPG average....which is pitiful for a car developed for efficiency. A 20 year old 7 Series gets above 20 MPG with no modification whatsoever. Finally it does look like a spaceship - but in a silly " Space 1999" way. Three year old models are available now at HALF the original MSRP....not very encouraging.
My 2013 328i xdrive gets 0-60 in 5.6 seconds plenty fast for me... in eco mode it gets 40 mpg on my commute. For a few hundred I can get it tuned if I need to go faster...and I picked it up for 13 grand (off lease). It has the sport package so it has a nice trim level . And I used to like this car, but having seen it up close and personal, it’s not worth the price, it’s a nicely designed rip off. Your smart to lease it with the horrible depreciation....I mean I just said I’m driving a 40k dollar car for pennies....how much more would my wallet hurt to buy this new or used
Love this car, totally my dream car (if I can't afford a Ferrari or McLaren of course!) A nice dark toned i8 looks really sharp and it's not too flashy or tacky, it's also better for the environment than most of these other cars out there.
You can totally afford a Ferrari or Lamborghini or McLaren if you can afford a BMW i8. The car is the same price as the introductory cars of Lamborghini, Ferrari and a used Ferrari f430 is less than a hundred grand on auto trader, and the McLaren 650s is a little more expensive than the i8
Lol then buy a Kia or something and a used Ferrari for the weekends. The i8 is depreciating FAST. It's more of a tech demo than a supercar or a 'save the planet' car.
Can you please get something that doesn't depreciate. Ever think of getting a Ferrari Scuderia or 458 Speciale as an investment? At least you would have equity...
4:12 as a detailed and an owner of white bmw seats. Improper/lack cleaning and mostly no leather conditioner lead exactly so fading leather, crack and more fragile skin
I own one. It has a standard HD 360 camera system with trajectory lines. The center of gravity is so low it's like driving a go cart. 0 to 60 in 4.4 seconds is very fast but not crazy fast. I can't imagine a better handling car. All wheel drive allows it to perform without the rear end sliding around. Because a computer is putting power wherever it can without any wheel spin you won't enjoy any burnouts. Burnouts are so old school anyway. If you want that get a Dodge Challenger with a HEMI. It will peel the rubber off the rear wheels, go nowhere fast, and make TireRack rich. The ride of a "M" will beat you to death, the back end will slide, but it will do a half second better on the 0-60. The "M" is old school. The M3 is a box with a big engine. It's like the 1973 M3. Nothing to look at but it drives great. The i8 is the future. It looks fantastic, drives fantastic, and used you can buy them for $65,000.
BMW door openers go all the damn time. I have had them fail on a 3 series (multiple), 5 series, X5 and 7 series. I imagine they use the same on the i8 as the rest of their range.
@@oeiras99 i agree.. But bmw just went for weight savings fuel economy and for the whole revolutionary hybrid supercar idea ... So they compromised on the grip. They just wanted to get a message out there and be the first to have a fuel efficient supercar
Shortly the new 992 generation Porsche will be hybridized so it will be interesting to see how it does in fuel economy with 305 rear tires up from 295 in the previous generation. They provide grip and give the car a great stance.
@@oeiras99 yes well Porsche is an all out performance brand they dont really care about fuel efficiency and luxury, i think their idea of hybridizing the 992 is for performance oriented reasons only, unlike BMW's i department.
