Great video. As a former skydiver, I think everyone who is into this should learn ground handling in different conditions. l see it as one of the most essential parts of learning to fly these wings. I'm very tempted having a go.. :))
Would defiantly agree with you on the ground handling, I mean even if you just have basic ground handling skills like launching a glider and killing it safely it can increase your overall enjoyment of the sport by a large degree because at the coast I honestly think that launching and landing are the most dangerous parts because once your in the smooth laminar coastal air not much can go wrong then but it's getting up there and landing safely thats the important part. Mate if you are some what close to any inland or coastal sites you should defiantly give it a go, it's the most relaxing and adrenaline pumping sport that I've found
Unbelievable control you got on that wing, but that video is surely not for everyone. It should definitely come with a warning for anyone who wishes to try this... Great skill to have though! Hope to see you some day

It is indeed crazy ridge lift, and some blue thermals on lucky days. We fly in 20kmph at take off on average. Lots of sand play on dunes. Contact me if you come to Dubai
I travel to Europe about once every year or two & most of the time I go through the Dubai airport so there is a good chance we might meet up and go for a fly someday. I've subscribed to your channel & if I'm ever gonna stop at Dubai for a fly I'll contact you! Thanks
If you have the chance I would defiantly recommend flying coastal especially when the forecast is good you don't have to worry about dropping out of lift and can fly for hours in nice smooth air 🙂
No problem, some serious talent you have! Aha yeah patience is one thing I have thankfully. Hiking such a steep mountain with a glider is brutal so I waiting is much more worth it than turning back! I live in Banff National Park in Canada and yes the mountains are superb here - but I'm excited to be able to go in shorts on a beach somewhere! I take it you're probably from Australia? Or where are you flying here?
I thought you took a chair lift or something, that is some serious hiking! Yeah I'm in Australia but I live in the southern part of Australia Melbourne, Victoria so it doesn't really get that hot except when it's summer. Coastal soaring is definitely another great aspect of paragliding, I'd defiantly recommend it!
We have very few areas in Canada where we have chairlifts (usually ski-hills) that allow paragliders up, and I'm not close to any - so to fly in the Rocky Mountains it's mostly hike&flies! Europe on the other hand, apparently has tons as it's much popular. Canada has less than a thousand pilots, whereas it's estimated there are 150,000 in the world! We have like 0.001% of pilots, surprising for Canada! Whereas just France alone has 26,000 pilots.. I see a huge surge in numbers the next 10 years with Redbull & GoPro affiliation, but as of right now it hasn't even started to take off like it has in Europe! It was a very stupid idea, turns out it's very dangerous! I have gotten frostbite in my fingertips twice.. :P So any temperature on the beach is miraculous lol!
Same story here in Australia man, very few pilots compared to Europe... I hope that it does become more popular someday here then maybe we can also have gondolas/chairlifts here in Australia :) 5-10 degrees celsius that is considered freezing here in Australia hahaha
Great videos Geti, I'm making my way through all of them. The sound of the wind does add something to the impressiveness of the kiting but have you thought of adding a mic cover so its diminished? The waves would be more audible and the wind wouldn't be cut out completely. Just a thought, keep up the good work.
Not sure how you managed to get so much lift with those balls of steel weighing you down! But seriously, great control in winds that fierce. Rarely get anything half as strong here and even then it can be challenging to ground handle.
O man this looks like a nightmare for a beginner, 40mph wind speed is normal where I live in Minnesota so I'm thinking paragliding just isn't going to be for me after watching this.
Maybe look into speed flying, it's basically a smaller paraglider which makes them alot faster & you can soar them in very high winds. Also alot easier to manage on the ground due to their size
When ground handling facing the wing, how do you prevent yourself being spun around when you're lifted off the ground? That's when it all goes wrong for me! D:

Well, what prohibits to show the anemometer reading at the beach level? ;o) surely, It would be really impressive if you do this at 37km/h though... With such dunes and on-shore wind, the speed difference should be around ~15 km/h, once you apply brakes close to stall you are still close to ground-zero-speed what should be around ~26 km/h for your wing. Nevertheless, your ground handling skill is impressive but not quite accurate numbers may mislead people who is going to sharp their high-wind skill... Besides that, your video is quite useful to learn from...
I was actually being conservative with the wind speed, I didn't show the anemometer reading gusts of 47km/h. This gliders TRIM speed is 42km\h so anytime you see me with my hands in the air and the glider is flying backwards that means the wind speed is in excess of 42km/h. I didn't bring the anemometer down with me to the beach because any sand getting into the anemometer will ruin real quick(I like this anemometer so i wanna keep it😋)
I've had the same issue with wind meters on beach until I got ultrasonic wind meter (look for "Wind Scribe" model from Davis). eBay sometimes has it for half of westmarine sale price Next time you may show the wind speed on the beach as well... Btw, at 2:00 you apply brakes close to stall and balance at zero ground speed, yet, each time you release brakes or C-lines ("TRIM speed") you move forward to recover position; you do not use speed bar and you do not pull A lines so you would not have chance to recover and mountain position having only 2km/h extra... so quite optimistically it could be 30km/h average wind speed but for quite rare gusts it probably may go up to 40... Cheers...

Be noted though, it should be something you gradually progress into as you don't want to jump into groundhandling in strong winds straight away. In strong winds if you haven't practiced various ways to kill a glider in an emergency things can get out of hand really quick.
in holland "wijk aan zee" all strong wind pilots are able to do this .. only they actually control fly and play as well .. until 17ms with tandem or 10m2 mini wings .. good vid and control though ..have fun man !!!!!
