CORRECTIONS: Yes, there are mobile versions of Chu Chu Rocket (GBA), Power Stone 1/2 (PSP) and Soul Calibur (Android, delisted) - I didn't include these because I was focusing on the amazing multiplayer aspect of the games and the mobile/handheld versions are NOT the best ways to play any of these games. I misspoke when I said they weren't available anywhere else, as I was talking about on modern consoles and/or currently available. I cut out about 40% of this video to trim down the overall length and streamline which changed some context. Sorry for any confusion. Thanks for watching.
PowerStone 2 slaps hard! If you are reading this and never played it, do yourself a player and find a way to play it; preferably with friends locally. It an absolute blast!
Right. We played 4 player all the time and the losing 2 had to do push-ups. Seen some crazy stuff in the game that we never could duplicate or ever saw again. Good times…
If u buy the first dreamcast console then u can play bootleg games on it using just e regular cd-r data disc😂😂😂i only brought about 5 actual real games marvel vs capcom is the most expensive game ive ever purchased i think i spend 150 on it but its worth it and im sure bout time im 50 the game will be worth 500 to 1000 dollars
The fact you can run up walls like Jacky Chan and use anything as a weapon and catch throwing objects just to throw it right back was enough for me but the stones are the icing on the cake. Everybody’s super Saiyan form was so unique and fun to play as. I also like the fact that they had items that could smack you out of your Saiyan form.
Here are a couple of hidden gems for you guys: 1- Illbleed: For the survival horror enthusiasts out there. A very bizarre survival horror that takes place on a Horror theme park. It adds a very interesting twist to the survival horror formula. 2- Omikron The Nomad Soul: An open world Cyberpunk game, yes, Quantic Dream did it first!. 3- Evil Twin: If Tim Burton made a video game, this what it probably would have looked like. It is a PAL game so be aware. 4- Wacky Races: Basically Mario Kart with Hanna Barbera characters. 5- MDK2: Bioware made this one, it is a 3rd person shooter in space with very fun characters and story.
Shenmue is one of the best video games I've ever played. It blew me away in the same way that playing Metal Gear Solid 1 on the PS1 for the first time did. They're really the only two games I remember playing where I was floored by how good the game was.
For me it was one of the most disappointing games I ever played. I preordered day one, got the guide and wanted to call in love but I hated every minute of it.
THE standout Dreamcast exclusive for me personally was Project Justice (sequel to the PS1 fighting game Rival Schools). It came out after the Sega announced DC was to be discontinued so maybe a low production rate is why the game holds such high resale price. I treasure that damn game and all its quirkiness.
I was going to post it too. I bought it used at Gamestop for $15 and eventually sold it for $175. It's got a fun story, so it's fine playing single player.
Great video! I first got mine in the year 2000. I was 15 years old and I wanted the PS2 so bad but you couldn’t get your hands on one so I told my mom she could get me a Dreamcast instead and that was one of the best decisions I’ve made, I still have mine to this day. I must’ve played sonic adventure for hours and hours. Then when Shenmue came out, that pretty much blew my mind.
You made the right decision as there were no reason to get a PS2 at launch the launch lineup was awful there was literally only like two games worth playing.. Tekken tag tournament and time splitters and neither game at that time looked as good as what was on the Dreamcast the good PS2 stuff didn't start coming until mid 2001 And even then I'd say More 2002 was When the console started to hit its stride there was so much to play on the Dreamcast up until that point
@@kefkahkefkah that's true actually forgot about that but it still wasn't worth it at that time a ps1 and dreamcast would have served you better which is what I had :) RE code Veronica and Chrono cross were 👌
Great video, some interesting picks I've never thought about playing like Zombie Revenge. Also, I know you're probably just throwing the games into an emulator to get good footage of them but you can find a lot of hex codes to fix the widescreen issues in most of those games online. I know DoA2 has one that removes all the culling on the sides and can even be extended to 32:9 if desired. Just a thought if you're ever going to do another emulated DC video again.
Ah good to know about the codes. I usually just play on my console but yeah, exactly what you said. I want to do another round of this soon, so I’ll check before capturing footage 👌
Thanks for showing some love to Dreamcast. I picked one up a few years ago, and absolutely love the thing. That opening screen gave me goosebumps the first time I booted it up. I think the thing could have had a much longer life cycle if they just came out with a new controller that added a second analog stick and bumpers to go along with the triggers.
Love the video my dude. I sank so much time into quake 3 on the Dreamcast I don't remember the control being bad in all fairness I don't put it in anymore because there is no online 😭
Awesome! I didn't know Revolt was on Dreamcast... I played the heck out of that game on PC back in the day... so much fun. I'm going to have to checkout a few of these that I haven't seen before.
Revolt CRUSHED me back when it came out on DC. It was so hard but so fun to master. The graphics are still great. Proud to say I still own the copy I had 20 years ago as a teen.
Awesome video! Dino Crisis was so fun. I played it quite a bit at a kid. I had forgotten all about it until you brought it up here. Now need to hunt it down. Hydro Thunder was an awesome arcade game! I’ve never played it on a home console. I’m going to hunt it down too. Great editing and narration as always.
Thank you my dude! I'm digging all the Hydro Thunder love so far! I just looked and there is actually a PC version that is considered abandonware. Can't wait for your next vid!
@@TynologyGaming I spent so much money playing Hydro Thunder. I probably should have just bought the game. Those were good times in the arcade. I’m still filming my video. You cranked this thing out! Did you get any sleep?
Some fps games like Quake 3 arena did support mouse & keyboard. The controller not being dual analogue is the only thing i hate about the dreamcast. Just like Goldeneye on the N64, great game but it puts me of playing it today. I read a thing about putting 2 controllers on the N64 that unlocks dual analogue but i haven't tried it yet.
Yesss I forgot to mention the M&K options for the Dreamcast (I never had the mouse), but it was in my original script 🫠 I also have seen the dual analog Goldeneye thing, but never attempted!
Thank you!! Yeah I’m shocked that they left Power Stone on the Dreamcast (aside from PSP, which was an odd choice for a multiplayer game). I’m hopeful for a remake or sequel in the next year or two 🙏
I'm glad you included other ways to play these games, it's always awesome to play on OG hardware, but also I kinda love the idea of having some highlights to try out on steam before I commit to buying a dreamcast. Great work Ty ✨️💕
Thank you Skrill! Even back in the day with the Dreamcast’s piracy issues, I still supported the “try it first” then I would buy the games that I enjoyed most 🤘
Funny you mentioned the FPS and controller set up… Quake III Arena was the first FPS I ever played… so when newer FPS games came out, I had to use the “SouthPaw” set up…. Now I am ambidextrous …. better accuracy in “SouthPaw” set up… anyway I still enjoy playing my Dreamcast games…. Top 10: Marvel vs Capcom 2, Project Justice, Alone in the Dark, Capcom vs SNK, Skies of Arcadia, Soulcalibur, Quake 3 Arena, Shenmue, Power Stone 2, Code Veronica X
I started playing FPS on PC when mouselook started appearing, so it always felt odd going to controller. Even to this day I’ll always opt for M&K if possible.
I still think the jump from Playstation to the Dreamcast was the biggest jump In graphics. When I seen the demos running on a monitor at EB games it blue my mind.
@TynologyGaming Fun video! I love my Dreamcast and you hit many of my favorites! FYI: 1) PowerStone 1 & 2 were ported to the Sony PSP as the PowerStone Collection. 2) Chu Chu Rocket was also released on the GameBoy Advance. Peace.
Thanks! Yeah I didn’t include PS and Chu Chu mobile versions as I felt the multiplayer was so key in these games, and mobile versions & multiplayer wasn’t great then. DC still the best way to play both
@@TynologyGaming I completely agree that multiplayer makes the Dreamcast version of those titles the definitive choice. I just wanted to highlight that those titles were available on other systems. And, all things considered, being able to play those two titles on the go is really fun. The puzzle mode on the GBA ChuChuRocket is great for passing time on long trips (e.g., plane flights etc.). Peace.
@@tedstahl3794 yes that’s a great point! Chu Chu as a puzzle game made it a great GBA addition - I should have mentioned that. Power Stone I remember grinding by myself and it wasn’t the same experience (as compared to Soul Calibur’s single player campaign which I lost hours to). Thanks for adding that context! I honestly forgot about those ports when I was writing/shooting the video 😅
@@TynologyGaming Dude - You're so right! Namco totally NAILED the single-player campaign on Soul Calibur! Fighters always shine when playing with friends and sharing the smack talk, but the story mode in Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast kept me coming back! Excellent point!
Got my dreamcast last year. Went to waste in total 1500-1700$ on it with 2 controllers, 4 vmus, 3 rumble pack and almost 20 gamed total. Some of them are rare (power stone 1 and 2 and bunch of like really well cared cib) and just recently got a copy of Dynamite Cop. Interested to try it! Love the Dreamcast it has been one of the consoles i wanted so much years ago and i finally got my hands on the only console of this specific generation that i never owned before. Thanks for this beautiful video btw!
just got a dreamcast with resident evil as a gift for my bday and got a little 13” pvm as a gift to myself and its amazing picked up crazy taxi, nba showtime and virtua tennis
Awesome video, Ty! Many of these games I experienced through ports or ~~emulation~~ because I didn't have original hardware. The Dreamcast was definitely ahead of its time, so it's unfortunate how things went down in the past. Side note: I need Capcom to give us a reboot or RE style remake of Dino Crisis. That has soooo much potential in this day
Just for anyone without a Dreamcast, Chu Chu Rocket is available on GBA with additional levels that were fan created levels on Dreamcast. It's a great way to play it!
I can not for the life of remember the name of one of my favorite games I used to play. It was like a 3rd person military game I think and I remember this level where you were at a riverside at night, raining and had to cross this bridge at the end and there was a tank and if you died you kind of died like a worms character: a skull popped up and dropped your backpack and changed to a new character. It had a desert level too. Such a good console boot up rivals ps1
I bought the Dreamcast for Soulcalibur. I loved playing it so much at Chuck E. Cheese, that I just had to have it at home. Some other people have mentioned Grandia II. My all time favorite game of Dreamcast! Unfortunately I played Grandia II first, so trying to play Skies of Arcadia was a bit of a slog after that. I only got so far into the game after being frustrated by the constant random encounter and lackluster battle system. Grandia II you could sneak around monsters, and how you entered combat mattered. If you ran into the monster, you would get an advantage, if they ran into you, they got the advantage. Yes, Grandia II has been ported many times, and I have quite a few of the ports. The first PC port was okay, but had many graphical glitches, especially in the video integration. The PS2 port was aweful! I've seen many complaints about the ports to the newer consoles. The new PC port is actually really good. There were some early problems, which I didn't encounter, which I think have all been patched. I ended up picking up Grandia for Playstation off of ebay after enjoying the second one soo much. Grandia II is more consistantly good, but I think I enjoyed Grandia more, even if the game starts off a little weak. Unfortunately Grandia III came out in North America for the PS2 about the same time as the PS3 was launching. I think it was MotorStorm I got really sucked into and just never got back to Grandia III.
I didn’t include Grandia II on here simply because I never really got around to playing it and I knew it had a modern release. Interesting to know about the port issues! Maybe I should put some time into trying it
Dreamcast Virtua tennis - to me is STILL the BEST tennis game ever made. (not that there is a tonne) The first Soul Calibur was AMAZING, I never played typing of the dead on the Dreamcast but I did play it on an acrade machine IN Japan - it was a LOT of fun!
Couldn’t agree more. There wasn’t a session of VT that didn’t end in screaming, laughing so hard I’m crying, or someone rage quitting while still having a blast. It never felt “cheap” when you lost, it was your own fault because the game was so good (no other tennis game can say the same). That’s awesome about TOTD! We’re trying to get back out to Japan this year! 🇯🇵
Good point, but they’re not available on modern consoles and the versions in that collection are basically 1:1 emulation from the Dreamcast versions anyway. Still a good correction though 👌
I pre-ordered the Dreamcast so I'm aware of all these games, even Jojos Bizarre Adventure, my personal favorites are Marvel vs Capcom 2, Power Stone 2(Such an improvement-also the PSP got a Power Stone Collection)and yes, the Dreamcast was greatly unappreciated for what it was, and still is. Also I'll add Bangai-O(another Treasure gem-also, fruit) Jedi Power Battles(MUCH improved over PS1),and for House of the Dead 2, I'm on my 3rd and 4th lightgun accessories-using the controller is horrible-my opinion-and I keep a CRT around for that reason, and I so want an Atomiswave, as having a Arcade Supergun rocks, and one of my friends on here(and irl)has one-its glorious. Wonderful video, and hope Sally is doing well! She looks absolutely radiant as you look magnificent!! Happy gaming and safe travels!! 🏳️🌈🖖🏳️⚧️🎮😊Marcus
I played Power Stone 2 for hours, I would collective whatever it was to make new and interesting weapons in the weapons creator lab. The combat was just sweet and simple fun.
I say this on every video I stumble on talking about the Dreamcast.... My favourite console of all time and Phantasy Star Online being my favourite game of all time.
i was playing hydrothunder on my Xbox while watching this. SOnic shuffle was fun as a dreamcast only game, mario party but sonic, Blue stinger and 7th cross a evolution game that was fun but hard at times.
You know, I need to try Sonic Shuffle again. I remember not enjoying it back in the day (despite loving Mario Party) but it’s worth revisiting for sure
@@TynologyGaming its not bad just wish the shortcut system wasnt character specific, do feel it would of gotten better in the future iterations if it had gotten any.
I bought a Dreamcast in ‘99 from Circuit City, right before a 6-month deployment on a Navy ship… We had Quake 3 Arena Tournaments or Marvel vs Capcom 2 …. one of my favorite consoles
In my mid 40s now …. but before online console gaming was big, my friends and I would get together frequently; ….do some LAN multiplayer on Halo 2…. towards the end of our meet, we would have a Marvel vs Capcom 2 tournament to see who was king! Man… miss those days… seems like the convenience of online affected is growing apart…. even though we all still game…
I would be thrilled if they just did HD remaster of Power Stone 1 & 2. They could even leave the graphics alone entirely other than upping the resolution (in fact, I'd prefer that they don't change the graphics).
At the very start of pandemic and lockdown, I got a Dreamcast for the first time. I’ve been working on it since. I have a keyboard adapter so I can play Typing of the Dead and just yesterday I got YPbPr cables and it looks spectacular on my CRT tv. I was going to give you a hard time if you didn’t mention Power Stone, but you got there at the very end.
I spent way too much time with Typing of the Dead after getting it running 🤣 Those component cables are amazing! I had some back in the day, wish I still had them. And yeah, had to save the best for last!
I had: Sonic Adventure (would love to do a gameplay video of that!) Sega Rally, MSR, Jet Set Radio, Soul Calibur, Quake, Virtua Fighter, Virua Tennis, Code: Veronica and there was a Tomb Raider game but name escapes me on that one....
For anyone wondering, there are in fact versions of all three games at the end on other home and handheld systems, not to mention the arcade. I have a Dreamcast myself and would recommend it, but don't feel left out, there are plenty of other ways! One final note, I believe that PC was always the defacto way to play Re-Volt, and preceded the DC version, but it certainly had the best console port.
Correct with Chu Chu and Power Stone 2. I didn’t mention them because they aren’t better versions of the game and the multiplayer is where both those games really shine - and the experience is not ideal in either case. There is no other home version of Soul Calibur available (there were digital versions on X360 and mobile phone, but all are delisted). I agree, Re-Volt if you’re playing by yourself, or using a modded version of the game is best on PC, but the most fun I had was in split screen, and that was on DC. Thanks for the input!
That Dreamcast startup sounds was made by Yellow Magic Orchestra's Ryuichi Sakamoto who died very recently...one of my favorite musician who technically was the Japanese Brian Eno ! RIP Ryuichi, I will never forget you because you made a lot of the sounds of my childhood without even realizing it !
Dreamcast ended right before Soul Reaver 2 came out which ended up being an early title for PS2. Kind of crazy since Soul Reaver was originally on the PlayStation and Soul Reaver 2 was going to be on PS-One too so you could carry over your save file like in Shenmue 1 and 2. But because Soul Reaver 2 ended up on a different system with different memory cards, it was impossible to bring over your save file from the first game on either Dreamcast or PS-One. I think because of that the sequel was reworked and didn't continue everything from the first game. That's how you got the cut content that still remained on the disc but you couldn't access any of it by normal means. Think of something similar to the Banjo Kazooie Stop and Swap.
That's fascinating! I know people loved Soul Reaver (I think I had it on PS1) - I threw a quick shot in this video of it but cut because I didn't play enough of it to talk confidently on the experience haha
All my buddies that had a Dreamcast and I all had toy commander. We had these large tournaments. Damn I miss those days. I was Always top 3. The truck and try to upgrade those weapons before everyone.
Exactly! I made a video on how unique of an experience it is to play with original hardware (even using an ODE) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zcgPNgD28O4.html
The first online Dreamcast game in over 20 years, first indie online dreamcast game, and first crossplay game between steam and dreamcast just came out on Friday and comes out on steam July 24th it’s called Driving Strikers!
Not sure what adjustment you made to the setup, but your audio levels were better in the previous Dreamcast video about modding the console. No hate, just feedback.
Thanks for the feedback. I had some odd room noise/echo in the audio that I tried to get rid of and I think it affected the audio a bit more than I intended
Space Channel 5 and Rez follows the same formula because they were both made by the same creator, Tetsuya Mizuguchi. Plus the development of Ulala actually goes a lot deeper than many are led to believe. In fact Mizuguchi was actually scared on how the Americans were gonna react to Space Channel 5, but after seeing the positive reviews from the E3 he was a lot more relaxed
You know I totally forgot that they were the same creator. TBH I didn’t ever get far in SC5. Both games I need to put some time into. Thanks for the added info!
@@TynologyGaming no problem, there’s a whole wiki fandom page dedicated to this series including some trivia from some early documents, which displayed early concepts of some of the characters in the game
@@TynologyGaming also in some ways Saturn was also ahead of its time with a built in harddrive for saving instead of all those memory cards and the controller used for the Knights game. Sega just missing the beats. Wish they were still in the gaming market
Arcadia is incredible. Took me 18 years to beat it playing on and off every few years lol. The battle encounter rate and the length of each battle is absolutely brutal though, which the Game Cube version rectified. Is there a mod out there for the DC version that have similar adjustments made to the Game Cube version?
I missed that they changed the encounter rate for GC, good to know. I haven't tried myself, but there's a thread here of people trying to modify the game (and a PAL link in there) www.dreamcast-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16345
I learned the hard way that light guns only work with CRTs. I bought House of the Dead 2 and a light gun for the fourth time but now I only have an LED TV. I hear CRTs are going for insane money now because of all the retro gamers.
Certain ones (the good ones) are sought after but you can still find them here and there. Problem is you usually have to find them locally because it makes no sense to ship them with their weight.
I would recommend Silver; a real time rpg with 3D characters on an isometric background. Also, I recommend Suzuki Alstare Extreme Racing. This one feels like your going really fast and fun with split screen vs mode.
17:15 This game is also on Game Boy Advance. Speaking of Dreamcast games that got ports on other systems, both Seaman and The Typing of the Dead got ported to the PS2, and use special USB controllers, like the 6-button analog controller and the QWERTY keyboard respectively. Not to mention The Typing of the Dead got a PC port before it hit Dreamcast and PS2.
If a Dreamcast Mini was in the works and actually comes out, I would so totally buy one. I never owned a Dreamcast system at the time and the only Dreamcast games I had ever played were the GameCube ports of Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. I would love to try out the Dreamcast originals someday without spending a lot of money or using emulators.
Its not being released. This is why you buy a dreamcast and keep all the games and look after them , like I did 😉. If you buy a loose dreamcast unboxed no cable you can get one for £35-40 pounds u.k 💰. You then buy a equivalent power lead £6 not big adapter plug needed. Then ( this is the important part) buy a kaico adapter its plug and play for hdmi and its pretty darn good more like HD picture. I play it on a 65 inch screen no problem. Add a genuine controller 12 quid . So about 100 pound all in. Most games are still affordable but some you may have to remortgage your house for but it's worth it 👌
keep in mind that skies of arcadia is nearly unplayable for the amount of random encounters. id rather have the sound be a little compressed then an extra 20 hours of random encounters lol
Just went to check back my own Dreamcast collection - worth mentioning also I think: San Francisco Rush 2049, Fur Fighters and Worms Armageddon. Best console ever - really at a sweet spot, between still a genuine fun factor, but also already great technical performance. Today's consoles and games are no fun imo. Technically superb no doubt, but just not the same fun factor and creativity.
I wish I included Rush for sure. Both Worms I really enjoyed too but I ended up playing them more on PC in the end. I need to give Fur Fighters another shot though!
After Sega discontinued the Dreamcast, the console still received officially-licensed games like Sonic Adventure 2 and Capcom vs. SNK 2. Not only that, there is Space Channel 5 Part 2, The King of Fighters 2002, Puyo Pop Fever, Under Defeat, Radirgy and Trigger Heart Exelica on the Dreamcast if you are interested. Also, Castle Shikigami 2 is an underrated shmup that hit all four 6th gen consoles.
i've noticed that dreamcast ports tend to be worse than their originals, SA1 especially suffering from this. SA2 has a broken rail grinding system which STILL hasn't been fixed by PC modders & there's no dreamcast DLC, to the point where played both games on dreamcast, despite owning them on steam (and PS3, for SA1) for years. i've made few exceptions (shenmue 1+2 on PS4, rez, ikaruga, triggerheart excellia's demo unlocked on 360, and power stone on PSP), mostly due to the price. battle may have more content, but DC's still better imo.
Although you don't have to move your arms for Virtua Tennis, you can! It is compatible with the fishing rod like Soul Calibur. 😅 More people need to play Virtua Tennis, I agree it's one of the best on the system. Yet very under the radar now.
Red Dog , Fur Fighters, D2 , Star Lancer(A PC Port) , Evolution 1&2 , Bang Gunship Elite, Deep Fighter, Headhunter. Test Drive 6 ( not the best looking game , but it's so so fun ) . MDK2 , Expendable, Rayman 2 , oh and if you've never played Super Magnetic Neo , it's a great platformer.
Nothing wrong with recording games through emulation, hooking up consoles to capture footages can be a painful process. Yes, the best version of Revolt is on this console. The steam version you mentioned is actually inferior with lots of things missing. You should check out RVGL, basically Revolt but supported by the fans with tons of mods
Yeah! I had them too! That segment I edited out the disclaimer about using the M&K (at the time I was focused on them being PC ports which I typically preferred) but I should have left that note in
Here's a fun fact to check out, if you play Ready 2 Rumble on Halloween or Christmas there will be skeletons and snowman in the crowd watching the fights. Not sure if any other holidays have this feature, you can change the date in the settings to check it out. Enjoy.
@@TynologyGaming I think it is pretty well unknown, can't find any easter egg videos that show it. I tried checking a bunch of other games back in the day for the holiday trick and couldn't find anything so it may be exclusive to R2R. Dreamcast was truly so far ahead of its time, I had the Sega Game Net hooked up through dial up and it was great to have access to all the games without having the discs. I still have my OG console but haven't played it in a long long time, the last game i completed on it was the Ducati World Racer such a great race bike game for its time. Thanks for the video, it took me back.
What about Elemental Gimmick Gear (EGG)? It only ever came out on the Dreamcast. It had (imho) this amazing art direction and atmosphere that was (iirc) in part influenced by the French artist Moebius (Jean Giraud). For rpg's of this era, EGG stepped away from the much over utilized jrpg mechanics and instead created a quirky action rpg that feels like Metroid combined with Zelda. And the soundtrack was super great. The game has a definitive 90s era experimental animation vibe (thinking like MTV's liquid television). Anyways, I've been wanting to play this game for a minute, and your video has motivated me to (re) obtain a Dreamcast console. Cheers!
I remember EA getting the NFL exclusive license. EA quickly began just "Phoning it In" every Madden release. That is still ongoing today! NFL2k was the better of the NFL games by far.
I got my Dreamcast during the jump disk burned iso disk era circa early 2000's. Shenmue IMO was incredible! It sucks that the sequel ports to Xbox lacked the attention. Supposedly the Shenmue series was originally conceived to be a 12 chapter/game epic?!! That would of been insane!
@@TynologyGaming Shenmue was definitely one of the first games I played that felt like a living & breathing semi-sandbox environment. Sure, many games improved upon the genre, but Shenmue IMO had something culturally special going for it. It's definitely a must play IMO.🤓
The only thing I wish that was different about the Dreamcast is actually the controller. I wish there was one that had dual analog sticks and was just more comfortable. But Sega nailed it with the Dreamcast! It's too bad they didn't go forward with like a Dreamcast 2. I think if they did, they'd still be in the console war.
I agree with the dual analog 100%. Playing a FPS on this thing is brutal. But I actually loved the comfort of it - I like that the grips are more vertical and the triggers pull more downward. I agree about their potential future success in the console space - although I'm just happy they survived to keep making great games 🤘
@@TynologyGaming @Officialnofriendo I was so used to playing goldeneye the fps controls never bother be that much tbh. Did you guys ever play fps games on the DC with the keyboard + mouse? I was in heaven playing Unreal and Quake3Arena online back in the day.
@fixorbricks I think you can through emulation, not sure on actual hardware. I completely forgot to mention that most DC FPS games had mouse and keyboard support!! Dammit!
This day and time in for my entire life as a gamer, I never played any sports games such as football and basketball games outside of maybe something like college slam or NBA jam/NFL blitz… But when the Dreamcast was on the scene you better believe I had every NFL 2K and NFL 2K1 as well as NBA 2K game because that’s how damn good they were!!! Somebody like me who is never cared for sports games always played NFL 2K one on the Sega Dreamcast!!
Been playing a bunch of dreamcast games lately on my mosded nintendo switch i am also using retro arch imma 90s baby and the dreamcast was definitely ahead of its time 😊
A niche game that I played a lot in the Dreamcast besides all that was already mentioned was Record of Lodoss War:. It played like Diablo, required quite a bit of grinding, but was very satisfying. With a lot of late game content too. And one interesting thing about Quake 3 Arena was that it supported online and you could play competitive fps on the Dreamcast. I'm not sure whether it supported cross platform play with the PC, but the servers were lively back then. I learned to play with the face buttons and got pretty competent back then, managed to beat the single player in the hardest difficulty even!
I’ve hear of RoLW before but never played it! I used to play Q3A online all the time! It was an absolute blast. The quality of SegaNet over dialup was insane. What an amazing time!
I loved pretty much every single racing game on the console. MSR, Tokyo Xtreme Racer, Test Drive Le Mans, Ferrari 355, Sega GT, Sega Rally. So many great unique games!
@@TynologyGaming Oh man, I forgot all about test drive and Ferrari 355?!? I played those but metropolis street racer and Sega rally and 4 x 4 radio were the only racing games I ever had on the system, back then at least.. But I agree, just about every game on the Dreamcast was a banger!
I do NOT recommend playing Phantasy Star Online or Quake III or Bomberman Online or Alien Front Online or Ooga Booga on the Dreamcast because the server is down and anyway broadband hardly started in 1999. So if other ways to play these games are available, feel free to do so. What I would recommend is the 2D arcade shmups Giga Wing 1, Mars Matrix and Gunbird 2, as well as Garou Mark of the Wolves, Project Justice, Dead or Alive 2, Capcom vs SNK Pro and Street Fighter III Third Strike. The arcade quality was super high at the turn of the Millenium and these games do deserve credits for their astonishing quality, including in the story telling. The best racer on the system is Ferarri F355 Challenge by a country mile. Superb. Realistic. Exhilirating. Quality dtiving as well. It's phenomenal. I do NOT recommand any Model 3 port or Saturn follow up with the exception of Sega Bass Fishing and The House of the Dead 2. Sega Rally 2 might run at 10000000 FPS but it's still disappointing. Daytona USA could have nice features if it was not so unplayable. San Francisco Rush is your Daytona USA. I do not recommand 1996 Virtua Fighter 3, because it pales in comparison to the latest releases in the genre. Dynamite Cop is awful, Confidential Mission, Zombie Revenge worse. Sega GT is boring and dull. Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 has some very good strengths but lacks variety. The huge hype over MSR is partly justified, but I believe what makes MSR special is present in other Dreamcast racers. Skies of Arcadia is mindblowing, Shenmue the greatest game ever made. Grandia II is another outstanding adventure game by GameArts. Up there with the very best. Samba de Amigo tons of fun. Crazy Taxi as well. I love Virtua Tennis. NHL 2K will make you sweat. Ecco the Dolphin... is exactly what you expect... Resident Evil Code Veronica is actually very good for the first half. Very cinematic. Good progression. Blue Stinger is surprisingly OK as long as you keep the television on mute. Worst soundtrack ever for an otherwise decent Survival Horror game. Super Magnetic Neo is a beautiful platformer, on the arcade tradition. Don't expect Rayman 2 from Super Magnetic Neo. Good on its own rights. JetSet Radio and Space Channel 5 have become classics. That's about it.
@@TynologyGaming I've changed my mind on Phantasy Star Online. It's a terrific game online and offline but you just have to go through the learning curve (as in every single Phantasy Star game). You can still play online with a hacked ROM.
Chu Chu Rocket is available for the GBA (same game, just no 4-player multiplayer and sprites instead of 3D models), Soul Calibr has an Android version (with controller support), and Power Stone 2 is part of the Power Stone Collection on PSP :P
i have absolutly no connection to tennis. i dont care about the sport, i do know nothing about this sport - there are only a few sports, that interesting me less.. but Viruta Tennis is one of the best games on the Dreamcast. I remember it, i borowed a dreamcast from a friend in my childhood, i had a few great games (like Shenmue) - but at the end of the day, i mostly played Virtua Tennis.
I’m glad you said this. I have the exact same relationship with tennis. But I saw friends become enemies, lovers become fighters, and enemies hugging each other because of Virtua Tennis 🎾
