Same old story.... garbage eveywhere around these homeless camps. In my hood one camp that got started the city put out a dumpster before it grew so big. It just grew and grew. All the junk, trash, needles, pipes where all over the grounds and roads yet the dumpster got very little use. Being homeless does not give them the right to turn lots into mini city dumps all over the place.
You have to realize the homeless aren't doing this, it is the corrupt politicians keeping all the billions allocated for the homeless causing this, "they" give all the resources to illegal aliens and none to AMERICAN CITIZENS!! Our government is no longer representing the people and it is time to remove the rot that is the corrupt federal government!!

He also said he’s rather be taking his drugs. Not have to worry about getting in trouble with his work place.
After participating in this society for 25 years I don't blame them. I work 12 hours a day just so I can afford a place to crash. Then I do it again the next day. It's fucking depressing, I dream of the day I can finally die and be done with this crap.

Love the way they try to make people feel bad for these people. If I was to trash the home and yard that I own half as much as these people, I would be swimming in fines and probably lose my house. Just because you're homeless doesn't give you any more right to trash the city where I live, too.

It looks and smells like a land fill down there. I know, I worked at a waste transfer station. These people have lost all sense of reality and the enablers are responsible for these conditions. These addicts can not make decisions for themselves. Just look at what they subject themselves too.
I am so tired of everyone feeling sorry for these homeless. I was homeless here in Portland with a serious drinking problem. Losing everything and living on the streets woke me up to my condition and was willing to do anything to get my life back. Portland does offer shelter and housing to people who want to stay sober and work hard to get their life back. They got me into a Womens shelter and provided me with the tools to get a job. Once I got a job they gave me a list of low income apartments to choose from. They paid my first months rent and from there I took over. I’ve been employed for 6 years and still rent my apartment myself. And I’m still sober! So there is help out there but so many don’t want to get sober or put in the effort.
With ample posted warning there is no legitimate claim for loss. Many did move to another location but with full knowledge that their new location was not legal either. If I park my car in a posted "No Parking" area, I have no legitimate argument if my car is towed. These "encampments" create a serious impact to home values, loss of business, and public safety. Illegal drug use is rampant among the homeless and those drugs cost money. Where does that money come from? Legitimate work income is 'rare in there.' We need to address a path out for those who want out and controlled supervision for the many who refuse to honor the property rights of others.

property values are a bubble propelled by trillions in printed money. which of course priced thousands of people out of housing. that's also an addiction, they can't quit printing money to "make loans"
the funny thing is all we have to do is tax the rich to pay for social programs needed to get these people trained and employed but its too hard to fight the rich. So we keep picking up a mess that gets bigger each year.
Let a homeowner allow their property to look like this, and they'd be fined in a heartbeat. The city has to give them notice??? If the city really wants to get rid of the bum's, quit giving them money, food, and tow all of their vehicle's, after putting up sign's, that are in the same spot for over 24 hours. Just think how much $$ they'd save by not allowing the trash to build up in the first place.
These folks get offered help but don’t want it. They don’t want to follow the rules or live under any rules. Why is it okay for those of us who pay taxes and work our arses off to support our family and have to pay for auto insurance and registration . I grew up in poverty in south central LA. Being poor is a mindset and I chose to work hard, serve my country, and educate myself. Now I am forced to pay 1% out of my hard earned money to a homeless tax in Oregon. I used to give to the food bank until it was forced out of my check. Now I am planning to move to TX to avoid these state taxes. Why do I have to pay for others bad decisions in life? It’s BS and it’s about time we clean the street and start working on the mental illness problem!

Yep. I'm a trucker and I see the busses stop at truck stops and fifty well dressed Mexicans with new clothes, new shoes, invade the truck stop and they are in there buying food or whatever so we must be giving them cash too. This situation is going to end up bankrupting the ssi system. I could almost bet that's where all this funding is coming from.
There are plenty of social programs available. Public housing, section 8, welfare, food stamps, SSI, etc.. The rub is going to rehab and getting off drugs. I understand addiction is extremely difficult, but there lifestyle is punishing the rest of the community that is productive and didn’t dapple in drugs in the first place. Also mental health is a big factor.
My sympathy has all but evaporated for people who "CHOSE" to live like this instead of trying. Just trying to clean yourself up enough to accept help, treatment and a place to live. Deal with your sh!t like everyone else has to.
There are not enough affordable places for the poor to live. Nor is there enough funding for the social services needed for all the poor to get their live together. This f we want to end homelessness, we need to make a big investment in housing, social workers, and services for the poor.
@gracieofgod8899 do you live under a motor home? Here in Washington State, King County. We've spent millions upon millions on purchasing hotels and using them as shelters for homeless housing, millions on services and social workers. Know what the end result was? They didn't want it because they would have to stop doing drugs and enter treatment if they took it. Then you got those with arrest warrants, alimony, child support and owe people money. They don't want to be helped, they just want to stay off the radar. So if you're homeless, you're choosing it. I got one of those hotels down the road that sits mostly empty. So I call BS.

After cleaning up and homeless return, the Governor needs to get some balls, enforce the law, and listen to voters. ,Politicians work for the public and the public is sick and tired of tent cities, needles, trash, feces, urine, drugs, in the streets and being washed down storm drains to our rivers. Homeless need to get jobs and contribute their fair share to taxes, Medicare, etc.
You would think they would get together and clean up the garbage. I have never seen a homeless encampment that wasn’t piled high with garbage. When I think about homeless I see garbage.
This is good 🎉 not everyone is homeless because they are a shitty person but a good majority is and it’s time stop letting people turn roadsides into trash dumbs and drug markets. Mad respect to the guy who said “I don’t need help I’ve never asked for help, I can live with this”
The guy is basically saying he's refusing help and will continue to live on the streets. He will continue to live in squander until he is forced to get off the streets (like most other homeless). Its called progress. We need infinitely more of these clean ups. This news clip is borderline sympathizing as if they have a right to clutter the streets
The ones that had shelters were living rent free. surely there is a location in ALL of Oregon that could be used for Rent free living just not in neighborhoods where others pay rent. Point being public property is not actually public, the people pay rent in the form of taxes. If the homeless/jobless want to live rent free then put them in the Forrest. I was homeless in Oregon once, as a vet, and the only requirement for a job was to have residence, clean urine test, and I.D. . So give them an address on public lands, and let them work.
People who use our public lands don't want them ruining our state forrests either. As a matter of fact I would rather have them squatting in a neighborhood, preferably the wealthiest one in town.
A remote section that is not on the beaten path. Eventually those that live there will figure out how to make it work. Why poke at the wealthy, just poke at those that squandered all the money that was suppose to assist them properly. The two go hand in hand. Often the mental health issues can’t be treated properly until a person has a stable, safe place to live. Providing housing and a social worker to each unhoused person is the best way to keep the camps from shifting during sweeps.
