40K LORE: THE UMBRA: THE REMAINS OF THE LAST OLD ONE The Umbra are a race of xenos that are nearly inexplicable and with a dark and terrible past. Qah, the last old one, is mentioned in this video. Included a self-written story for flavour. I still say there needs to be more stories about the Umbra and Hrud (I like to pronounce them H'rood). I swear, I can't find many stories that don't just mention them in passing.
Your cat(The Old One) blesses your house(by napping and purring) and by giving him a tribute(giving your cat tasty treats) he blesses you with his benevolence(furballs)
Mr. Baldermort I was playing fallout London after an extensive pain in the ass time trying to download it and who do I hear. 😮It was awesome to hear your voice in a different median. It definitely fit with the tone.
War in Heaven is one of my favorite 40k lore storylines. I think a Baldemort fan fiction of the Emperor throughout the ages would be awesome. So much you could do with that and so many eras. Maybe during the Dark Age of Technology but flashback throughout history.
I forgot to shave my sundial yesterday. Hence, the five o'clock shadow. There are some shadows around town. They've been throwing some serious shade at me. I was visiting a historic site with a battlefield and two forts. The park ranger told me to be careful as the sun goes down because the buildings cast a large shadow, and it is hard to see where you are walking. I said, ok I will beware the dark side of the forts."
My oh my. For being in and out of the GW universe for the last 30+yrs and thinking I knew a little about all of the lore, this is the sweetest of treats! A, new to me, obscure xeno species/construct! Baldy you never cease to amaze and please!
Sometimes I can't help thinking that it's a shame that the Warhammer universe is tied to the tabletop game, and doesn't exist solely as a narrative. Some of the most fascinating concepts in the setting are doomed to (probably) never be explored as much as they could be since it would change the world too much and impact GW's sales. The C'tan and the Old Ones, Ynnead, and many more. So much potential, but very little actually happening.
@@baldermort Of course, I still very much enjoy Warhammer as it is now. And the beauty of having such an expansive setting with so much lore is that you can write things yourself! Fanfiction can feel really close to the official lore since there is so much stuff to reference. That's part of why I like your content so much too. Even though the stories you write aren't canon they have that special Warhammer feel to them.
@@baldermortapparently the company keeps an archive with 2 copies of everything they ever printed, I would love to see it opened up as an actual reference library alongside the model gallery
Great video, cousin. Ave Dominus Nox I love the character wondering about his work being worth a "grox's fart". Most of us feel that way and in a military environment it's even worse. In my 14 years of service in the US Army, we often wondered "who came up with this stupidity?"
Nooobody cares if I don’t do hard lore. I had to give up doing conversational videos as they slaughtered my metrics. And I’m withering as it is. I might do one for Patreon. I know what I’m good for. ;)
@@jcdenton6864 even though I just started two months, a week and a few days ago with no prior experience my boss saw that I handle the logistics and stand on business more than my coworkers who now work for me. When he retired he promoted me over other people with way more experience in the field. I show up to work not only to get the job done but to be exceptional at it more than everyone else i work with. On top of that I have a good attitude at work and I'm not disrespectful to anyone above or below me on the totem pole. Hard work actually does pay off if you work for the right people. I just finished my first week at being a supervisor while also training a new employee for the first time in my life because I actually care at my job when others almost cant be paid enough to care
The Hrud are one of those races that I have always wanted more about! Always alluded to but never fleshed out, just a vague threat. So good to hear it might be on your radar, if anything for more stories! :D
After a recent severe illness I acquired, that damn near killed me, I have been wondering what ungodly creature my southern portal had been spawning, good I can finally put a name to the foulness spawning from within me. Thank you Archmagos Biologous Baldius x)
Wonderful! What a lovely excursion into imagination and the fun of the Grim Dark when I’m needing something to sweep my mind away from the Grim Now and wrap me in a cloak of story. I hope the theme continues into further elements of this elusive elemental essence of 40k.
I'm so glad to be finally getting into you. A long while back I listened to your trilogy on Rogal Dorn. And it made me cry. I'm so happy to see that you do such a unique and interesting twist on warhammer lore by format of story! It immerses me so much!
Great topic choice. I have never heard of this before. I got into 40k in 2022, so it is exciting to discover something outside the mainstream stories. Thank you Baldermort!
The astartes fan made film displaying an umbra truly left me after decades of lore truly mystified. I had to know more and there was so little. Thank you for the informative and entertaining video kind sir.
I always like to think that the Laughing God is sitting in a special section of the Black Library that we've come to call the Bald Library, just enjoying the hell out of the works your little servo skull creates. I mean that's where you have to be, right? after all, such a fine specimen would otherwise be locked in Trazen's vaults for sure.
I suspect the Eldar left the Old Ones to die at the hands of the C'tan, so they may take over the Galaxy and the Webway. The Eldar worked with the Necrons, that is like working with your nemesis to kill your boss, which is pretty much how the C'tan were eventually shattered. To Quote the legendary Stan Edgar in his role in The Boys - Bad Product. And wouldn't be the first time in the setting creation betraying it's creator - Necrons betraying the C'tan, The men of Iron betraying Humanity and the kin, Horus betraying the Emperor, White Scars turning on Jaghatai.
Fantastic story. Going by the descriptions in the video Kar sounds like a weaponized deity like the eldar gods are sometimes mentioned to be rather than an old one. I also can't see the human connection, Unless the Hrud are humans aging backward through time.
Get in Brother Balders, only read og the Hrud (possible misspelling) once in the Lords of Mars trilogy but they were bonkers (in a book of fairly bonkers concepts) so will be eagle eyed for this vid
Well that was indeed very interesting, even more so because of that Hrud end times myth... They're more concerned with the C'tan than the chaos gods that thoroughly eclipsed them and even broke the one who lingers.... 🤔
i do enjoy hearing about lesser xeno faction, yeah the necrons, space efls and green bois are cool but hearing about the smaller makes the galexy feel bigger..more lived in
Love hearing about minor xenos races. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Q'hol from Xenology as they seem to have a good sized empire of their own, held back only by their lack of navigators. I remember in the Fan Fiction "shape of the nightmare to come" they wind up owning much of segmentum pasificus.
