27:45 You'd be surprised how often inexperienced engineers neglect things like, "Where do the shells eject?" in real life, too. My dad was a test pilot after his time in Vietnam, and in one of his more harrowing stories (one of the few he would ever tell), he ran into a similar situation while live-firing some new type of vulcan cannon mount (F4 variant - later rejected). At altitude, and once given the order to fire, it became immediately apparent that the ejection ports were aimed directly at the jet intakes -- and something no one bothered to check -- when both engines exploded from being filled with a spray of hot brass casings. Apparently, it also shorted most of the electronics, as he found himself unable to eject. This meant his only option was to glide down to a crash landing, or else nothing. From the way he tells it, he figured there'd be no harm in lighting up a cigarette after disengaging his oxygen mask, setting off alarms and a scolding from flight control, to which he responded, "Don't worry about me smoking, 'cause if it isn't my last and I make it back down there, I'm gonna shoot the sonofabitch who built this fucking thing." Who knows how much he might have embellished the details, of course, but it seems that, maybe, sometimes fiction really does reflect with reality after all.
If you're curious about how right you are in the given context, I highly recommend you go check out a channel called The Chieftain or look up his videos The Chieftain's Hatch and watch the fun he has getting into and (try repeatedly) getting out of numerous armored vehicles. Particularly the Jagdpanzer 38(t) "Hetzer". The thing is like the engineers thought it'd be a good idea to put a jungle-gym inside of it.
@@carlosbaldellou by regulation 893.67528.846 of the Munitorium Ordinance Dept. the illegal possession of ammunition is punishable by flogging or execution.... Ok boys, line up the offending ammo and I will get the Commissar
It's also not exactly true, the adeptus titanicus game allows titans to merge void shields, that wouldn't be possible if the voids where deliberately antagonistic to eachother.
@@grantbetts9123 I think it might have something to do with titans being allied and, therefore, possibly having means to establish communications and use them to synchronise their Void shields to merge them.
If the ammo screams at you it's best to simply scream back louder as you fire it, this will establish your dominance over both the shell and whatever you sent it at
I'm going to tweak this comment to be more in keeping with the lore. Great one though. "Moderati, do you see that continent?" "Yes, my Princeps." "I don't want to, Moderati." "Yes, my Princeps."
"Gunman, do you see that orbiting fleet?" "Yessir." "I don't want to." "But sir, we can't-" "I don't care gunman, we're in an EMPEROR TITAN! FIRE EVERYTHING!"

I imagined a Tau watching this a becoming increasingly terrified and before you started about the void rocket I imagined Billy Mays saying "but wait! There's more!" And then I started dying of laughter!!
A Tau Fire Warrior might be concerned. A Tau Earth Caste engineer would be taking notes and asking things like "Wait, it opens a portal to _which_ dimension?"
"Well... firing this thing against tanks is just... damn right, unfair! it would be like hitting puppies with a burning hockeystick, you don't do it, its mean!" cracked me up more then it should have.. I'm a monster..
+Juan Paolo Datu There are no good guys in 40K. The closest we have is the Ultramarines and everyone hates them because they don't have a penchant for uber genocide on an hourly basis... I blame the fans personally. The Tau used to be 'good' but people didn't like it and thus the greater good is now whatever the mindcontrolling Ethereals happen to be thinking at any given moment.
The Void shield does send the incoming energy into the warp. It was noted by an Eldar seer in the book Path of the Seer that the fact the humans were capable of producing shields that dissipated energy to the warp was shocking coming from a primitive race, and that each the taint of the warp constantly seeping out
So the warp is even more dangerous, now thunder from the real world can kill things in the warp. Granted that might make things safer in the warp all things considered.
I think there was a Tau story where they stumble upon a wrecked Imperial vessel and find its Void shield generator, causing the Earth Caste members to turn to chaos in a way.
Shell CAnnons, meh Plasma Guns, ppfff Flamethrower, pah Laserguns, boring Shells imbued with the souls of Billions of dying people, captured in their last moments of unimaginable horror as their lives and their planet is snuffed out by an uncarring army from orbit. Man, 40k is lovely.
I assume that a couple hundred shells are created every time a planet is subject to exterminatus. Otherwise the ammo would be logistically impossible to supply to a galactic sized, militarized civilization, therefore rendering the weapon useless.
In context of the Vortex Missile I think it is fair to quote (in spirit, I don't have the excat quote in front of me) the TT rules for the Warpfield grenades (operate to a similar system, but are hand-grenades): "Don't even DARE to try to roll a save of any kind. The Warp doesn't care for your armour, your shields, how fast you are or how tough you are. Just take the models hit by this off the table."
What i find really funny is that Vortex rockets are deployed from a Titan or Spaceship. Elder foot troops ran around with gun or flamer version of this weapon. Okey they only use it when shit is hitting the fan , Craftworld is in danger, but come on ?!? A footsoldier with a gun that shot's holes into the warp ?!?
Maximilian Blum The same with the warpfield (hand) grenades. Just in case you know that you gonna go and what to ensure you take as many enemies as possible.
+Si Wi The rules for it are the following: this missile may only be fired once and it may not be fired directly. After determining the final position of the marker, any models and removable terrain features touched by the blast are removed from the game (flyers are unaffected). Don’t even think about making any form of save, and the vortex isn’t affected by your Eternal Warrior and other special rules either. Just remove them! -Gargantuan creatures are not removed, but automatically lose D6Wounds (no saves of any kind allowed!). Super-heavy vehicles are not removed, but automatically lose D3 structure points. After the initial damage has been resolved the vortex partially col-lapses. Replace the 10” marker with a 3” blast marker. At the beginning of every following player turn (of both sides!), the vortex tears through the fabric of reality, disappearing and reappearing 2D6”away in a direction shown by the roll of a scatter dice (use the little arrow if you roll a hit). After determining the final position of this marker, resolve any damage, as described for the initial blast above. If a double is rolled for the distance moved, the vortex is removed instead.
+Si Wi those particular weapons are considered Strength D now, and roll on the D table...however the titan mounted missile is more devastating than even what was stated above.
Imagine a warhammer 40k Titan simulator game. It would be glorious. Like Mechwarrior, but with more dakka, and more grimdark. I mean hell, just having Imperial and Chaos Warhound and Reaver titans could be pretty balanced and varied, given customizable weapon sets. Maybe Warlord titans too...maybe. And I envision a game with dynamic damage models, not health bars. What do you think?
@@Bill.Papadakis Of course, but it'l be half a titan in size, not that big. I remember something about ships using torpedoes with mini void shield generators tough.

Here’s a lore idea for a titan legion. They run Wolfpack’s at the cost of producing less warlords based on the logical premise that warhounds are more economic. They also run flamers because they discovered that Prometheum produced on their home world has the unique properties of neutralizing tyranids bio Titan acid.
+Punchpotatoe As far as I know, 40k lore channels have been steadily improving. Each one learning from the successes and mistakes of the other. It started with "Warhammer 40000 Lore for the Uninitiated." series. It was ok, but he talked really slow and his accent was REALLY hard to understand. Then came "Vaults of Terra", which nailed it on the whole 'understandable accent' part, and while a bit too infodumpy and fast for some, was of good quality. Now comes Arch, with his simply names "40k Lore" series, which has, IMO better pacing, and really good sarcastic wit and humour. It feels enthusiastic, making him sound a lot better then the general "professor" feel that ed gives.
+Sid Wara There are a few others with nice concepts, like "40k Theories", though their speech quality sounds a little like phone recordings. "Onemindsyndicate" is way too fast and just states and lists things without any explanation or something.Like "Yo, 40 facts about this and that in 7 minutes". It`s a simple ranking channel, though it`s enjoyable for people that know their fluff. It feels a bit, like their is a inflation of people that want to tell us about 40k nowadays, some more enjoyable, some not. But Arch is definitely worth a watch everytime.
They can but the mechanicus doesn`t allow it. You can disassemble stuff and assemble a new one based off the ddissassembled thing, but if you don`t pray to it then it work, accordimg to the mechanicus. Furthermore any unsanctioned engineering, machining or inventions that work (without prayer) is considered heresy and thus is punishable by death.
All lies. My Warhound's Titan Inferno Gun reduced a perfect-condition Land Raider into a pool of molten slag in mere moments. I can attest that Prometheum Jelly indeed melts ALL the armor.
GW seems to have forgotten that lasguns work the exact way as the Laser Destructor - sudden heating causing an explosive detonation. Typical GW lore writers :( I do miss the larger array of weapons and designs in the old Codex Titanicus as well. The titans in it could mount melee attachments like wrecking balls, power rams and ripsaws. The old Warlord had 2 hardpoint mounts which could pack a Support Missile, typically upgraded to a Vortex Missile. Assaulting it with infantry wasn't a good idea either, as the lower hull was electrified at random intervals and would fry them. Good times.
Does any faction fight the huge bipedal Titans by not targeting them directly but rather the ground underneath them? I figure that there should be some technology that can turn rock into melted cheese . How would the large titans even get up if they fall?
Titans are blessed by the god emporor himself they can remain upright and ready to fight even when they tripped over a house and landed on their faces remember the titian is upright its you who are sideways
If you have the firepower to completely melt/evaporate/blow up a crater large enough for a titan to trip you might as well just target the titan. As for land mines... just no. You'd basically need nuclear mines to have any effect. Even the largest anti tank mines would barely dent a titan's foot.
The thing to remember is Titans are not small or light things. The weigh thousands of tons and merely making the ground a bit soft won't do a whole lot as they would just sink down a few dozen feet. It might make it difficult for the titan to move or get out of the sink hole, but their weight generally makes them tipping over or falling rare. Especially as they don't really "run". It's like the difference of hitting a pot hole with your bike vs hitting a pot hole with a tank. One breaks your tailbone and possibly flips your bike, the other just drives over it.
I always find it amusing how the imperium of man is in decline and will most surely die out in the next 10K years but the amount of " GET DUNKED ON SON" stuff they had is ludicrious.
+Tohno Shiki and with the post 5th ed wave where there is actual logic and technological improvement in the imperium yet that being NO WHERE near enough it's all the more dark and far less stupid.
20:24 = "Happy dappy so the Machine Spirit doesn't decide 'I didn't have my lolipop, so fuck you I'm going to jam now.'" 42:41 = "Shells imbued with the souls of the dead and the damned." 48:10 = "Volcano Cannons against Tanks is like taking a Flaming Hockey Stick against puppies; cruel and unusual."
*titan fires its Gatling blaster* Commander “Look out!” *guardsmen running from the shells slamming on the ground and rolling after them* Princep “Sorry!”
+Arch Warhammer thank you for making both Warhammer Fantasy and 40 K lore videos I have in joyed them and have watched more than one. Which your videos I have gotten into Warhammer, I prey that total war warhammer will be a good game after they removed those restrictions they have put in about expanding your faction. Thanks again Arch and keep up the good work
+Arch Warhammer Hey, i really enjoy your videos, and i just wanna know... what exactly IS the problem with grey knights? :) I'd appreciate a video, though you seem to have a disliking for them for some reason :P
+gr8r gud reverse engineering isn't always accurate though. even in todays society you will have a company produce a brand that others will try to copy but only end up with flawed imitations. usually because of a lack of knowledge in production methods
To any and every Englishman who has ever told an American or Australian anything along the lines of "this is what the language sounds like when you pronounce it properly," I present this guy.
@Lerahk and... I'm very aware of that. Pointing out that the Scandinavians often speak far better english than we do is kinda the point here... Guess you missed that. It's ok. I'll use smaller words next time.
Something about your casual yet cautionary tone when describing calamity-levels of damage makes what you're saying that much more impactful. Found your channel from the 'Krieg' vid, and am kinda binge-watching them at the moment... EDIT: Well, binge-listening...to.
Titans - exploring the boundaries of term "overkill" beyond logic, reason and sanity since before Horus Heresy :). PS. Now I need to know if the final cannon is canon! If not, then it's a non-canon cannon, and I don't even know if it's funny or scary :).
Actually began laughing out loud around 28:25, I imagined an entire friendly tank battalion and guard squadrons getting crushed by their own titan's spent ammunition, that'd be such a shit way to die XD
I find it more hilarious that isn't the first problem they noticed with the design. No it was the ammo problem. Not the "these shells will probably crush any support on this side of the titan" problem
You know what'd be funny? If it landed in such a way so that the shell lands with the hole facing down, so it traps whatever it lands on inside there with no way out...
@@inquisitorthomasdefinitely536 I just imagined an Emperor Class Titan carrying a Nova Cannon like a Gretchin would carry a Las Cannon. Somewhat cute and terrifying at the same time.
I wonder why GW Retconned the Hellstorm Cannon into an energy weapon. When Titan Legions came out, it was a projectile weapon - the manual even made reference to the Hellstorms barrels, saying that while the barrels appeared to be "rotating at a leisurely rate",in reality, it could spit out thousands of shells in a very short time...
So when two void shields colide it would end up causing damage like the destruction caused by the SDF-1 Macross's omnidirectional barrier getting overloaded?
On the Hellstorm cannon: actualy in Dark Crusade you can see the weapon firing FROM FUCKING ORBIT. I'm not joking, on the orbital view of the campaign map, the hellstorm cannon test-fire routines are visible from space. Oh come on arch, don't be silly, the plasma anihilator is just a tiny gun for pussies. If you want plasma, look no further than the Ordinatus Armageddon. This silly tiny little toy is a space-ship Nova Cannon (gigantic space ship mounted plasma weapon) mounted on tracks, it can turn an Emperor class titan to slury in ONE hit and let's just say that whatever side of the battlefield you fired it at will turn into a sea of plasma (friendly fire possible but not encouraged, Do not waste the emperor's precious troops). And in case anyone wonders what the blooming hell an ordinatus is: imagine a weapon the size of warlord or emperor battle titan. Yes, just a weapon. Mounted on tracks. The size of an actual Titan. Also, they are not STC based, each ordinatus is a unique scratch built engine of war that the mechanicum had to create on the spot.
+French Toast haven't you heard of "do not waste what the emperor provides?" Every life in his service is precious and needless death is tantamount to heresy. Granted, death is a certainty in 40k, but it should not be needless death. As a certain fabulous and manly general once said: "A guardsman's LIFE is to die. My job has always been to send them to places where they CAN die. I'm not afraid to spend them, but I never waste men." and then there's kubrick chenkov ... how that fucker hasn't been executed for heresy yet is beyond me (well the fact that he somehow wins is a reason but damn that man makes khorne proud).
+93Avenger93 Sure the emperor cares about the lives of all peeps, but with the people currently in charge it makes me wonder if he really was willing to do much about it. Most guardsmen captains don't give a toss usually if a battalion dies, let alone a soldier, but they do care if they did not fighting, so your point is still valid I was saying that when they're on the field, they are gonna die and nobody cares, like the siege of vraaks (spelling citation needed) they said that they were gonna buy every square metre of the planet with about 3 dead guardsmen, then they asked how many square metres there are. The lives matter to a degree, but the Imperium need to purge xenos now, a random can wait P.S sorry for the wall of text
I really could listen to your Videos for hours...not only it is very interesting but you talk in a good way, Kind of relaxing...well done, iam looking for more of your videos
The problem with the volcano cannot is the heat. I have a dream of a Rotary Volcano Cannon. Six barrels spinning at high speed so it can send a near continuous stream of short bursts of pure heretic melting nonsense. Such a device would have to be ordinatus level.
"Like hitting puppies with a burning hockey stick" I must admit that I didn't expect that particular image to be placed into my head today, yet here we are.
'Aaaand now we get to the Battle Titan weaponry' so the triple-barrelled flamethrower, Vulcan megabolter, Destructor lascannon and plasma cannon were all the meager weaponry type all along... I love this universe.
Starships trireming each other in the dark future of the 40k universe, all I had in my mind was starships song 'nothings gonna stop us now' playing over vox caster 😂
arch i hace been watching your vídeos for quite a while now and they are The most awesome thing i have seen on youtube ever, although sometimes i use The ones i already saw to fall asleep hearing them which sometimes dosnt help as i put way too muchos attention to fall asleep, thank you for making The vídeos man, and keep it up you are awesome, regards from Mexico
Specialized Titians I have seen or used in Old Epic; a close combat Tazmanian devil of a Reaver titan: Laser burner, Chain Fist and a Wrecker with a close combat head; A Warlord Titan with 1 Plasma Annihilator and 3 Barrage Missiles with Spotter landing pad and fire control tower. This thing sat on a hill and blasted the Gargant mob after erasing a reinforced Bad Moon Clan. The player was not happy. A variant was to replace the Barrage Missiles with 3 Void Missiles. Leveled a cluster of buildings and eating most of the 2 clans occupying it. Again, the player was not happy.
I would like to learn more about STC. How the bloody thing worked? What are components of STC? How copies of STC tech are used in the age of imperium (tech stuff)? Is this some kind of AI-Factory-Library in one place? Did that "thing" could build, fe, damn bridges by it's own, or was "merely" a smart database? I heard there are some templates that are still too complicated for the empire to use them. Can you explain that? I can't find good answers anywhere. Also an episode about space hulks would be nice. That's quite interesting aspect of Wh40k lore. :)
I think teh inferno cannon makes alot of sense for dealing with tyrannids or orks, when there are literally millions of enemy infantry and you want to burn them quickly. Mount it on a relativily fast titan and burn away, and retreat if an enemy titan shows up and let your bigger friends deal with it.
ARCH!!!! I could listen to you recall the intimate details if Cathy Bates bowl movements over the last four decades and still find it interesting!!! You are my my Attenborough ol chap! Keep up the fucking fannytastic work.
Basically the megabolter would be equivalent to the Megamachine guns of Gundam( which a loto can mount 2 of) so yeah its just a 200mm rotary gun with ammo the size of small cars( or Sturmtiger shells).
+Arch Warhammer Will you make a series of video about different race's fleets in Warhammer 40K? I would love to hear some lore on the Imperium's navy and Eldar Navy especially about their weaponry and tactics.
