I am periodically refreshing past videos - and the Dreadnoughts was long overdue - so - this is the updated more comprehensive version #AD Play Warhammer 40,000: Tacticus play.tacticusgame.com/luetin-mow + use the code "LUETIN0524" for in-game benefits
Thank you so much Luthin, my fav unit for the table top game redone and it's over an hour: Praise be the Emperor. I'll crack a cold one and grab some snacks for this🙏
Would love some lore videos on the construction of some of the imperiums machinery. Like the efforts needed to produce a Leman Russ battle tank, the steel works, or ceramite process and all the pieces that need to come together logistically for it. Much like the old ww2 programs you see on tank production.
A certain servo skull once told me the story of a Blood Angels dreadnought about how he felt for his brothers, watching them decay for 10000 years and stray further and further away from what he fought for beside their primarch, besides his emperor... it was so sad, so heart wrenching, one of the best grimdark stories I've heard yet.
@@sohrabroozbahani4700Spoilers for Echoes of Eternity . . . in Echoes of Eternity it’s mentioned after Sanguinius killed Angron that Zephon lives beyond the heresy. Told as him ‘Wearing black armor’ and that he would sometimes correct the legends told of the times of Sanguinius and the heresy. “He (Ka’banda) isn’t the bane of the great angel. He is the bane of the 9th bloodline. He didn’t come for the angel. He came for us”. I understood it as he was eventually interred into a dreadnaught. Watching history turn into legends and then into myth.
“Let’s the dreadnaut fight in the squad they were used to” Dreadnaut: “I was an assault squad captain.” *Thus the rocket boosted, chainsaw wielding dreadnaut variant was born*
I can't remember the pattern name, but the blood angels did have a rare jump pack castafarium dreadnought. As if there dreadnoughts where not terrifying enough.
@@FYAjibber000 nightmare inducing to imagine such a thing as it thrusts itself into the enemy lines! or even far, faaaar worse: see it thusting towards ur own position >_
@naomy1701 yeah, no thanks...lol it'd be like "what do you mean the walking tank flew 60ft up? What do you mean it has knives for hands? What do you mean it's screaming about Horus and butchering everything it can reach?"
My favorite dreadnought moment is when some Tau find one immobilized with its carapace cracked open. Not only is the marine inside older than the entire Tau empire, the limbless sonofabitch spits at them.
I think the most tragic aspect 12:51 of the dreadnoughts was the Horus heresy… what brought that to my attention was in betrayer, when the world eaters dreadnought said “for the em… sorry, force of habit” it was funny, but he’d forgotten that they where fighting the emperor… chaos dreadnoughts are probably the saddest ones to think about…
I happily remember a story where the tau were cleaning up after a victory only to discover the chunk of screaming meat in a war machine older than their civilization. Humanity as the eldritch horrors.
@@Whoahandle I believe it was “the blades of Damocles” or something to that tune. If someone else reads this I would greatly appreciate some confirmation.
*Grabs a cold one and some snacks, Lutin is talking about my fave unit for over an hour. *opening music, voice in my head: At last, back to war! My autocannon will speak untill it has run out of words, for even in death I still serve!
You are on fire at the moment dude, if refreshing older content is a relatively cheap and easy way of you getting 'new' videos out I'm all for it, rewatching much older content that may have faded a bit from memory with a dash of newey new sprinkled on top sounds very pleasant.
@@Luetin09 I know but even a watered down version of this format is still interesting to me, let's say you pick a random 25 minute older video, add 10-15 minutes extra content to it, to me that's a must watch, whether the rest of the viewers and the alg agree who knows.
Same! I watch old videos frequently between new releases because I like hearing the stories and the intricacies. Even 10 more minutes added and I’m already sold.
It's like this video was made for me. After getting into 40K through your channel, I found myself fascinated with Dreadnoughts. Instantly became my favourite units from both an aesthetic and lore perspective. When you had mentioned possibly revisiting Dreadnoughts in a lore video I was super excited. Glad to see it released! Once I watch it through, it's gonna be added to my Luetin Sleep Club list for sure.
Your fascination is not misplaced. There are a lot of awesome characters interred into dreadnoughts, for well known ones like Bjorn, to the lesser known like Cassor
Every time Bjorn appears in the setting, its always so crazy. Poor guy has lived through so much and seen so much. He and girlyman are on par, knowing the tragic irony of the Emperor's dream vs the current reality.
But hey, maybe he'll get to face the Lion in a ritual duel some day if he ever gets to meet the returned primarch. I kind of think that due to the history between Russ and the Lion, the latter will somehow help to find the former in some future release.
@@jamesygamesy5124 kind of? But in the instance I think you mean, she was originally from Fenris. And this was at the end of the Months of Shame. They met Bjorn atop the Fang. She fell to her knees when he named himself. And almost had a stroke when he talked about having know Emps
@@brettnyrehn261 what's even more hilarious, meme videos might be screwing my memory, is how most loyalist just drop to their knee when they know who he is. And he f**king hates it.
I hope Luetin will keep the older versions of these videos along with the new ones. They might still be useful being short summary videos for people who don’t want to watch hour long videos. Of course in my opinion the longer the better but that’s just me.
I think I will, I dont think it will be detrimental. I wont be doing it in bulk, but every few months just update older ones with a little more content, and a higher quality of audio.
@@Luetin09 if you somehow left out any inquisition factions - that video discussing all of their historical philosophical differences was genuinely fascinating. Really reminiscent of studying trinitarian heresies and cults, and church creeds in IRL history. Definitely gave it a lot more depth than i had considered the inquisition to have, before (the monodominants being the most public facing grimderp aspect in pop culture).
Loved this video. I'm getting back into 40k. I'm 36 now and I started collecting Ultramarines when I was around 10 until I was 16. I've got around a 30,000 point army still stashed away for all this time in several hard cases. I had so much fun when I was kid painting them with my dad who is gone now a few years back. This video took me back when I recently pulled out my dreadnought and remembered how we finished it together. Thank you for that. ❤️ Keep up the good work
Wouldn't it suck for Dante if he was about to finally die and his brothers grab him like "your duty is not over brother" and slap him in the most awesome and heavily armored Dreadnought ever made lolol
Full disclosure, I’m not a Blood Angels guy, but I want this to happen so bad because it would be fucking hilarious. Up there with Jaghatai getting strapped into one
One aspect I love about these videos is the way Luetin talks about these fictional technologies like they were real WWII like weapons.. like he was talking about the changes from the Panther to the Tiger Tank, or the advantages of the Sherman vs the Panzer. This channel is one of the reasons I got into Warhammer. I still don't have space, time, or money to get into the board game or painting, but I absolutely love the Lore (and I am horrified they are starting to move into corrupting the lore to appease outsiders and corporate hedge fund bond villains). :(
I feel i am one of the very few 40k fanatics from India. My very first mini (total of THREE) is a venerable dreadnought , painted all green for some reason.
My Space Marine army is that of the Doom Eagles, which employs Primaris Space Marines and Redemptor Dreadnoughts, sticking with the theme that the Second Founding chapter is relatively new and they believe that they are already dead so as to fight harder for the Emperor. And the fact that Redemptor Dreadnoughts burn out faster would not deter them, means that the Doom Eagles are an unstopable force of assault from the Air and steamrollers on the ground. I love Warhammer 40K
Even though RU-vid is the only platform that I use for video content, there are only 3 people I have the bell on for. Backyard Scientist, Cleetus McFarland, and Luetin. They are the only people that can cause my phone to make noise when a video is posted.
I often think of that one game where my crew, among which two techpriest, designed and crafted an all-terrain high-powered threadmills mod to get that one White Scar dreadnought to move faster, so they could use him as a mean of transport through the battlefield Have you ever heard a Space Marine just bellow in pure joy of knowing speed once more? "I FLY AGAIN, MY BROTHERS! I FLY!" The world is grimdark, but the people in it? Might as well give them some joy before they die.
that right there is why I like 40k: yeah, broadly, it sucks there. but individuals can still be heroes, even on the small scale. damn dude. brings a tear to my eyes.
@@The_ZeroLineIdk what timeline you're living in, but giant walking war coffins aren't a thing here. Unless you're talking about the boats which share a name but have literally nothing else in common.
@@colby1398I find dreadnaughts very familiar, hooking patients up to machines to just keep them alive to deteriorate slowly. And allowing it simply to not disappoint their family
I don't remember exactly where this is from. But I remember the scene well, and it shows a perfect example of how the pilots of Dreadnaughts can slowly lose their mind over time. It was a Thousand Sons Dreadnought being awoken for his wisdom. And the Marine inside asked when they would once more march alongside their primarch in service to the emperor. (It may have actually been their fellow legions and not the emperor). And the Marine who awoke him gave a moment to lament a bit on how the Dreadnought's mind had deteriorated so much. That despite having fought in the hersey (and I believe be wounded in it), he had completely forgotten his legion turned traitor. Something that wasn't the case the last time he was roused from his slumber.
When i first got introduced to warhammer playing dawn of war and heard the line even in death i still serve i had not idea the horror of what they had gone through to get that way i thought they were just a robot with an ai
Once again a brilliant dive into a subject we all thought we knew about until the lore master presents us with his knowledge . Thanks Lt another amazingly fantastic piece.
The Leviathan is pretty terrifying to meet, but then you also remember that during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy, it was also armed with phosphex launchers.
The Leviathan dreadnought is the best-looking dreadnought, in my opinion. I proxy mine as a redemptor or brutalis. I loved running the autocannon and grav cannon with volkite in 9th edition.
The Tau could fix Dreadnaughts. So that the user isn’t strained. It would be harder for them to overcome the species barrier than the mechanical problem.
Won't get to watch this till later. But had to pop in and say thank you. Dreadnoughts are the single reason i started vacuuming up as much 40K lore as possible.
It seems like in the Imperium, the technology of bipedal war machines usually requires a human sacrifice. Weather it's a Titan, a Knight, a Dreadnought, or even a Penitence Engine. Once a human gets linked up, it's matter of time before they become inseparable. Eventually the person cannot be taken out of the machine. Ergo, the logical choice for pilots are either those who are mortally wounded, those who are to be punished, or those who have trained their whole lives just to last a bit longer than the average human. I strongly suspect that Dreadnaughts and Penitence Engines were once the same technology, back in the Dark Age of Technology.
Not going to lie. It would be cool to see a tabletop battle between luetin, baldy, ab prince, and vox. I feel like it would be such an epic fight. Maybe even take donations for charity or something once a year. Battle of the 4 YT lore gods.
16:12 - Carab Culln the risen! The tabletop model itself is an artifact-level unit, but to actually survive both Badab and Vraks alone is reason enough to earn the honor of eternal service as a Leviathan Dreadnought. He would look great also reimagined as Brutalis, I think.
Ehh it would make more sense cause it already been said As long as Sanguinius needs him and dante has a single drop of blood left he must serve. Do a better joke.
Bruh I randomly opened my phone and apparently I was halfway through this video despite never clicking it. The Emperor works in mysterious ways I guess.
There was a lot more comedy this episode than usual, it was a nice addition. The bit about the dreadnought finding it was _still_ alive made me giggle.
Got to love me a good dreadnought! :) Glad to see the updated video. Good work. A small thing though. Around 55:00 Leutin start talking about chaplains and, for once, I feel he gets the lore wrong, or at least plays it down. Most Space Marines chapters have never acknowledged the doctrines or religious supremacy of the Ecclesiarchy, as he said, but Chaplains are not mere people to uphold appearances (while they do that as well, to a lesser degree, especially with the Rosarius). That is not their primary duty. They are learned in the Chapter's Cult, take care of their brothers psychological needs, and keeper of relics. And yes, prayer and faith, faith that the Emperor was an incredible man and that all he stands for is worthy of veneration. They are an integral part of any Chapter and not an afterthought. Might just be the wording he used, but it felt off for me. Otherwise, great video!
