In this video I resurrect the good old praetorian Guard for Warhammer 40k. I place emphasis on bringing this army into the 21st century by utilising modern Warhammer Cadian kits as a base for many of the units. Conversions are kept as simple as possible often simply consisting of head swaps using Perry Miniatures British Colonial soldier heads in place of Warhammer ones.
If you are interested in seeing the 19th century inspired Warhammer 40k field guns check out my video: • 40k Astra Militarum Fi...

I could not resist making some Praetorians. They are mainly Victoria miniatures, 5 rough riders on the big heavy warhammer fantasy empire pistoleer horses, 8 or so infantry, with Victoria's figure based on Michael Caine as the leader, a pair of 3d printed steam punk armoured sentinels, and a section of model T ford scout cars and a rolls royce for fast attack, and the Indiana Jones tank(the OG leman russ!) for heavy support(all from empress miniatures).

Praetorians are simply awesome - for my own part I was just so bored of Cadians 🤣 I was lowkey glad Cadia exploded 😅 I miss the diversity the guard used to have back in the early 90s. Thanks so much for watching mate 🙏

I'm also converting the new Cadians to Praetorians. I went with the Victoria Miniatures heads as they also have Ogryn sized pith helmets :)

I didn't know the cadians would work that well with a simple paint swap. I've got a box of the Perry miniatures box on the way, I plan to do a simple arm swap for the las guns, we'll see how it goes.

It is amazing what colours can do! I’ll be the first to admit that this is not ideal! 😅 I’m nearly bored to death with Cadians (they never did interest me really) at least like this they can be more exciting for me! 😄 thank for watching mate and please let me know how you get on with the arm swap! Photos always welcome! 👍

Try wargames atlantic "bulldogs". 24 excellent, easy conversions for Praetorians for a really good price.

Wargames atlantic do a box of figures called bulldogs. They are meant to be british removed from earth during different times they look like Pretorians . But they come with . 20 century tommy helmets , pith helmets, peakcaps . With and without gasmarks .
@maddokminis
@maddokminis 5 месяцев назад
Yes I’ve seen them! They are very good value for money (as with all Wargames Atlantic stuff) - I did consider them but they didn’t have quite the look I was after for this project 🙂 many Praetorian collectors use them as they are comparatively cheap and excellent quality. Thanks for watching 🙏

I'm actually just about to finish up painting my first Bulldogs kit, though I went with a color scheme from a planet to the galactic north of Praetoria. I also tossed in some heads from the Cannon Fodder kits, and maybe one or two from Les Grognards lol. Only issue with them is that the sword arms for their officers came out a little funky, but idk if this is just my particular kit or a regular occurrence. Never mind about the sword arms, I didn't realize they were basket hilts and thought the fingers just looked odd. 5/5 kit then.

Awesome tutorial! What i did for Ogryns was picked up shieldwolf Immortalis Ogryns and used Victoria Miniature ogryn piths on regular ogryn heads.

This is awesome, good work. Definitely going to check out the Perry Miniatures kit. I think the Victoria Mini’s heads are ok, but they just don’t look exactly how I want them to look. During lockdown I spent an obscene amount of money on two 10 man squads, 2 heavy weapons teams and a command squad of the original Praetorians on eBay 🫣 so been looking for good bits for conversions to save a bit of money haha so thanks for bringing Perry miniatures to my attention! 👍
@maddokminis
@maddokminis 6 месяцев назад
Huzzah! Another Praetorian officer has come forth! 😄 thank you for the kind feedback mate and yes I really like the Perry Miniatures heads - they are not super detailed but are perfectly sized to fit the newer style Cadians 👍 you are probably better off buying a complete box of the British colonials as buying sprues separately will add up. There are 36 minis in those boxes with two helment variants (70+ heads!!) I get the Zulu war ones. You could also conisider the Afghanistan war British as well - you don’t get the spiked home guard helmets in there though - I think you get normal pith helmets x36 and pith helmets with sand covers x36 - may be better choice if you don’t like the spiky helmets! Check out photos of the sprues before picking up a box 😅 Sorry for rabbiting on mate, I’m just super excited for you and your project! thanks for watching! Huzzah! 🤣✊
