I managed to persuade the one and only ⁠⁠⁠‪@PaulMessner‬ to join me for a hike and a wildcamp around the stunning Carmarthen Fans in the Brecon Beacons. The Helm 1 stood up brilliantly to the 40mph winds through the night and as a reward we were treated to the best views I've ever had on the hills!
There aren't enough words to describe how blown away I was with scenery, I've been here many times before but never had the weather on my side..... until now!

Really enjoyed that Darren. Felt like I was there with you 😂. A few more water pouring shots and stove lights would have been nice but a cracking video mate. Thanks again for inviting me. Absolutely loved it. Next time you can drive this way though 😂

Great video Darren, one of your best. You’re growing in confidence and you’ve got a lovely relaxed manner which makes it a pleasure to watch. The Brecon Beacons are one of our favourite places to walk and we wild camped beside Llyn y Fan Fach back in August so it was good to see the views again on your video. Hey Darren, caught your chat with Paul Messner on his channel. Happy to be a new subscriber. Cheers fella. I've only cobbled together 2 videos with my mate on Dartmoor. Love camping videos and completely had the same sort of spark to wild camping as you; COVID times, discovering Paul Messner (+Haze +Summit or Nothing etc) and then buying the gear and heading out to camp. Love it.

I'm yet another that found you through Paul, I've now subscribed to you as well, I hope Paul doesn't start charging you for people that have subscribed to your channel through his💰💰💰 Anyway great video, looks like a very nice part of the country that I admit I've never ventured to, my local stomping ground is the Peak District but looks like I'm going to have to push myself to travel further to get some of that vast landscape and epic views. Nice video mate, and what a stunning location! I find it funny how you compliment Paul on him bringing a heavier tent for this trip and then you lug along a 1 kg chair and a few beers with you, of which Paul had none. 🤣

Top tip: little foam sit mats. They weigh nothing and take up little space. Put it on your camping chair and it stops your bum and legs getting cold and obvs your coat keeps your upper body warm. Makes a huge difference

@@holmesaway Thanks for the reply I’m definitely getting it but £250 is a lot of money for me, don’t know if the price will drop in the next few months or increase, Ive been using a vango soul 200 since 2016 it cost £40 back then, poles are fibreglass and did break and I had to buy replacement poles and I can’t sit up, bit like a coffin lol, but for the price it did me well, camped around 30 times in it

Great to see channels crossing over. Which holes? I've always treated the outer holes for standard use and the inner holes for when I want a bit more tension in the material. The inner holes just seem to give a little more support. 👍

For what it's worth, I use the outer holes and both poles holes when I'm double-poling my Helm 2 if the weather's blowing a hoolie!

You do like to be exposed mate. I would personally find a cosy place behind a rock shelf with a nice fire radiating of it to keep your back warm as you take in the views and have a tinny after your can of mulligatawny to warm the your cockles and muscles have a good night and don't forget to peg your tent ?
