Saturday 18th June 2022 saw a parade from Bute House in Charlotte Square along George Street and terminating in St. Andrews Square, Edinburgh.
The parade was a combination of veterans of the 1982 Falklands War accompanied by The Scots Guards Association Pipe Band and HM Royal Marines Band.

As an ex-piper, I can really appreciate marching on parade, I was very fortunate to travel to Scotland in 1985 with my family and to play my pipes.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Yes I can imagine playing at the Tattoo in Edinburgh. I did play compition in The Santa Rosa Highland Games. It's over 120 years old I believe. The massed bands where fun.

you should be proud of your Scottish Heritage. i am English and proud of it, my best mate was from Clydebank and he was proud to be Scottish. we got on so well and i gave a Eulogy at his funeral quoting Robbie Burns 'when Death's dark stream i cross over, and surely this day must come..all i ask from Heaven above, is a Highland Welcome.' his family down from Scotland congratulated me but point is..all the Commonwealth countries are Brothers and have stood together on battlefields we only ridicule each other in football, rugby, cricket and jokes. when it gets tough...we stand together. best wishes to all in NZ from me in Liverpool U,K.

The Royal Marine Bands, without equal, are the best for concerts and displays. However , for Marching Troops, you need Band, Bugles, Pipes and Drums. This Pipe Band were outstanding on this Parade. Well done to all, Lest we forget. Well done my Jock brothers from just across the water from ye. Faugh a Ballagh.

I personally believe that it is a good thing to stage parades like this. That said it seems clear that probably the majority of those taking part in the parade - bandsmen, pipers in particular would through no fault of their own, not even have been born in 1982 and in all probability have no real feeling of the spirit of those times. I'm old fashioned enough to believe that as a mark of respect one should be especially well dressed for such occasions if you put yourself in some conspicuous position in the parade. I noted with disapproval how photographers, unkempt for the most part, kept flitting in and out of the parade like locusts making a thorough nuisance of themselves and severely detracting from what is meant to be a solemn and dignified occasion.

Here Ye, Here Ye! I am also a tad old school. Imho marching troops are not parading, they are defending. Let everyone know they will face a bayonette or worse if they try to terrorist tha march. But also creds to the vets, there are not many feet missing the step. Even if the arms are somewhat............

As the Royal Navy is the Senior Service it is fitting that the Royal Marines Band headed the parade. Without the RN and RM protecting and delivering the landing force the retaking of the Falklands would not have happened.

What a mess; the various cameramen spoiling the March Past by being all over the place. Also a pity that the PM chose to march past the saluting base with 3/4s instead of Highland Laddie or the Crags of Tumbledown Mountain. Given the occasion, it would have been much better.

How to Play the Game of Life Why do children wake up with their eyes wide open and jump out of bed while we open them just wide enough to see the phone so we can set it to snooze? Why are young people energetic and ready to “conquer the world” while older people are cautious and hesitant? Can we stay young-spirited forever? After all, if life is not a game, there is no excitement in it. And if there is no excitement in life, what is the point of living? If we want to keep enjoying, we need to make life a lifelong game. This game is very different from anything we know. It is not about what we can receive, but about what we can discover! By connecting to other people, we discover new worlds, other people’s worlds! How do we achieve this? Quite simply, we need to focus on others rather than on ourselves. This may sound simple, but if you try it, you will realize how self-absorbed you are. We are all like that. Even those who feel that they are generous and giving are absorbed in their giving and do not see how much they do it for their own interest, and how they are focused on their own benefit when they give. Giving is fine, but the focus is the point here. Had the focus been on the receiver, the giver would have discovered countless revelations that are hidden from a self-centered eye. For the game to succeed, you need partners. It is impossible to play the game of giving without people to whom you can give and from whom you can receive. Therefore, there must be a group of people, up to ten or so, who play the game together. In order to succeed in discovering the other players’ worlds, we need to think good thoughts about them. Otherwise, we will have no incentive to approach them, no desire to discover their world. We can think good thoughts about each other if we do good things for one another. These can be the simplest things, but they must make us feel good about each other. Positive thoughts about each other bring us closer, and closeness opens our minds and hearts to others, so we can see the world through their eyes. As with any game, the more we practice, the better we get, and the harder, yet more rewarding the game becomes. But unlike any other game, as we improve in it, we will find that our entire perspective on life changes and expands, and we become wiser and more competent. The game of life, unlike any other game, reveals to us the secrets of life, the secrets of reality, because when you can look at something from all angles, nothing remains hidden from you.
