Cleaners are lovely to have; however, many things need cleaning that a service will not do without an extra charge or not at all. Cleaning bedding, crevices, mold,...come to mind.
Stainless steel sinks and stoves tops can be cleaned with baking soda. Baking soda is inexpensive and replaces comet or ajax powdered cleaner and chemically safer.
Jeanne: And, also on copper, as in the old antique copper teapots. On a plate sprinkle a good amount of table salt so that there is a "bed" of salt. Next, roll the lemon on the kitchen counter using pressure to soften it. Cut the lemon in half, and rub the lemon half in the salt bed. Keep rubbing...sooner or later the lemon and salt will begin to wear away the patena and dirt build up. I used this method twice back in the late 1950's and into the early '60's to clean my small collection of all pure copper teapots...one of which is dated 1889, England. It was a very hard chore back then and I'm pretty sure there are products that would ease up for the hands and wrists in today's world. The method I gave above is what I saw live on a local TV show in the early 1980s Good luck cleaning your copper for the Holiday.

I use only water to clean my floors. It works great and leaves no streaks or residue.Oh,and if you have a swiffer you don't need to buy sheets. Old socks work great for cobwebs or dust bunnies and you can use any cloth moistened and stuck on onto the swiffer for floor cleaning.
You can also mix dawn with white vinegar [about 1 portion of dawn to every 2 portions of vinegar]. warm them in a saucepan or in your microwave for a few second just so the vinegar will combine with the dawn. Put the mixture in a spray bottle and spray your shower doors, tiles, etc. and leave on for 15-30 minutes, then just wipe it off! All those water stains will slide away! You can also clean your burner covers with this mix by spraying them with the mixture and putting them in a plastic bag over night. Hope that helps someone. :) Learned it on RU-vid!
I'm a huge dawn and vinegar user! It gets everything in my bathroom so shiny! I don't bother heating the mixture though.... doesn't seem to make a difference.
I'm definitely doing the rug cleaning on the next hot days here in the UK. The black mould solution works. Nothing beats bleach solution in a spray bottle
These are actually great tips! I've watched a few of Jansen's DIY videos now and tried a bunch of the hacks. I'm so happy with the results. So many DIY hack videos out there that are not only useless, but sometimes dangerous, that I was skeptical but this is awesome. Nice to find legit hacks and tips that work well and are safe to use in my home.
I like to consider myself pretty good at improvising and thinking outside the box but yesterday BAM it occurred to me that I have a pretty good size garment steamer and OMGosh it was/is so easy (and fun) cleaning the kitchen. Wow. It literally melts grease and build up, like seriously melts, and then simply wipe away (i use the Norwex cleaning rags) The way I see it , Work Smarter Not Harder LOL now cleaning is actually fun again! I'm afraid of going crazy during steam cleaning everything i can get my hands on all around the house!
I purchased a small steamer just for cleaning. It works great on kids toys, stuff animalls and pillows too (just don't saturate them and keep at least 6 inches away from cloth surfaces)
Great tips! I have found though that using Future on lenolium floors is better than regular floor wax. It's an acrylic. It doesn't yellow, floors can be washed easily with a very light soap solution, and you never have to try to get it off with ammonia, which will take the finish right off the lenolium. If that has already happened, that can be rectified with Future as well. JMO Retired long time housekeeper.
Just tried the lemons in the microwave trick!! So easy it cleaned everything out and left a lemony scent, trying it with my toaster oven now and in my conventional oven.
@@thatgirl3757 I was just looking to see if someone had said this. I wonder where this myth arose that you need the lemons to clean the microwave, all they do is make it smell nice. It's the steam that does it so make a lemon drizzle cake instead and that smells just as good and tastes great too.

RU-vid said this video recommended people to watch my fall kitchen cleaning video so I had to come check you out. I’m saving this video for sure. It’s full of useful information. Thanks for sharing!!
Vinegar baking soda and lemon! Winning combo for cleaning. Drains baking soda add vinegar after all baking soda is done foaming run hot water for a minute or two. Slow drains? Leave baking soda and vinegar work the drain for an hour then hot boiling water down the drain will clear it. Repeat if necessary! Easy Peasy!
The easiest way I've found to clean water stains from a glass door is to soak a Bounce towel in water and rub it down. The glass will turn milky. Then use a damp sponge to wipe the milky film away. Finish with some glass cleaner. It will blow you away at how easy it removes the water spots. This isn't a joke...it really works.
Any stagnant odors that permeate a space can be neutralized by heating or microwaving a cup of vinegar till it boils then place it in the smelly area till the odor is eliminated or the vinegar evaporates. A hot plate is best for boiling a small pot in the desired area so your not running back & forth to the kitchen to reheat the vinegar
Wow, that was comprehensive! Some of those things I would never even have thought to clean!! So cool to know how to use tools and cleaning agents in an effective and efficient way. It almost makes cleaning look kind of fun!
Back. Worked pretty well, though I'm dealing with some really old hard water buildup around bathroom taps. Used old toothbrush with some toothpaste to attack the rest that didn't come off easily but some most certainly came away with just a wipe. Rating: Fairly successful but will need repeat treatments.
Some very good tips. For me, the best is using a seam ripper to get hair, etc. out of the vacuum beater brush! I’ll have to try the “Magic Scrubber” sponges on my oven door/window. I saw a video that recommended using baking soda & vinegar, but it didn’t touch the mess on the window & inner door frame. my husband dropped a frozen pizza while putting it in the preheated oven and it landed upside down on the glass. It was way too hot to try to wipe it off, so he went ahead with baking, and further baked on the pizza cheese! I have yet to find a “best” way to get it clean!
I tried the half-grapefruit dipped in salt trick and it worked great on my tub after a lengthy illness and getting behind on my housework. Smelled very nice afterwards, too.
The comments on here are hilarious. I use both bleach and vinegar, baking soda, and blue Dawn (edit to comment..... my point was as a disinfectant I have used both bleach and vinegar but never together. I was going based on the comments comparing one to the other.) There are many ways to clean. It’s up to each individual to do what works for them. To tell the author of this video that they need to do research on chemicals is funny to me. It’s my responsibility to research and not do everything that I see. Everyone doesn’t have the same hang ups. Adding to the information base is fine but when you tell someone that they need to update their information because it’s not your preferred method is just rude. Make your own video if your convictions are that strong. Lol Come on folks. Let’s make a conscious effort to share positive thoughts and comments and not tear others down because their ideas are different. After all, isn’t it the differences in us that makes us unique and an individual.
So true! It also seems each generation has a “guru” per se on basic things and them presenting old tried and true methods or products as if they just made some brand new discovery,or have just invented the wheel! If a person’s own generation guru says something is true, then it has to be gospel, right?! Oh well..
Maybe people are just sharing information they would have liked for someone to share with them sooner. After all, there are just so many hours in a day... and thousands of consumer products, and other things in life, to research.
You know, if you clean your toilets weekly, there will be no need to do all this extra work. The extra work is needed due to not cleaning them on a regular basis. I use bleach toilet bowl cleaner and squirt all around the upper portion of the toilet bowls weekly and then scrub with a brush. Same thing goes for the microwave. Cover your dish and you won't have splashes. If you do, wipe immediately and don't let it build up. So much time and energy can be saved by just cleaning after yourself daily.
I do my toilet every couple of days (2men in my house!) I wipe my sinks around after every use, so no water stains there, using bicarbonate (baking soda in US) if they get soap scum on them. This way, as you say, they don’t need a ‘big clean’. Having said that, a lot of the young ones have never been taught to clean in ANY way, so these vids are brilliant for those ones...
@@hallelujah8141 Very true! These videos are certainly helpful! And, also, we all have different standards. What's clean to some may not be clean to others. I dust, vacuum, and mop every week. I was once called lazy because I have an irobot that does all the "swiffering" for me. I have no carpet in my house, so I must swiffer, then I vacuum, and then I mop. The robot has saved me a lot of time. It picks up all the loose hair and dirt that the eye would miss. They thought I just let the robot do everything and I was sitting on my a$$. But...they don't even do half the cleaning I do. When they learned I was dusting my furniture and wiping down mirrors and framed pictures while my robot was swiffering, they gasped. They call that "deep cleaning". I call it weekly cleaning. Deep cleaning to me is when I scrub the grout on my kitchen floor and bathroom floors, which is not something I do weekly. But I was raised to clean properly and regularly. Different standards.
Well just think of all the free time you have now to catch up,lol. If your area is anywhere like mine, you have no other choice, but to be in the house if your not essential. When my teen asks me to cook, I explain, I'm not essential. Your old enough to use the stove, let's pretend school still has home ec & I'm a substitute. You know, don't do a whole lot of teaching, just making sure no one burns the 'school' down.
@@rswife777 unfortunately I am considered employed by essential store. It stays open, I continue to work. Would love nothing more than to be stuck at home for a few weeks.
I was really impressed with your video! Great natural solutions, some of which I’ve used before but a good number that were new for me. Thank you so much for taking the time and energy to compile all this info into a single video which I’m definitely saving!!
Lemon Pledge furniture polish takes hard water debris off glass shower doors instantly and keeps the debris from accumulating again. And you can't beat that shine when you rub it in. Not to mention the lemon smell, mmm!
At 21:43, the cleaning solution is called TSP, Tri Sodium Phosphate, not tsp as in a measuring unit.TSP is used to clean, it is actually a light abrasive cleaner, strips the dirt off the item you are cleaning a little, allowing you to repaint, giving the surface a texture for paint to adhere to. If you use TSP, use the red label and hot water, then rinse, the red label won't make you work as hard in scrubbing. Be sure to rinse after washing with TSP.
Thank you so very much for your help I love to clean but some things are hard to clean do way I clean you give me good ideas we use to say live and learn and you are never to old to learn God bless you my friend. Cid
I really enjoy these kinds of videos ! I compile interior designs in various categories for fun and upload them on my channel, they are soothing and motivating.
The best and easiest way to clean oil up on your garage floor or driveway is dawn dish detergent. Cover the spot with Dawn, let it sit for about ten or fifteen minutes, then spray with a hose. It was like magic. The oil just disappeared. Jean from Arizona
Chelsea Hill Hose ❗ This landlord I'm assuming , took the water outlet so there is no Hook Up . I just moved here but the people that were here didn't complain , Huh ❗❗😲 You need that ❗ Geezzzz , cheap O and Lazy 😒 SMH ❗
You are still spraying oil into the drains in the streets. Just dump cheap cat litter over or shredded newspapers it to let it soak up for awhile then sweep it up and place into a seperate trashbag.

If it goes into the storm drains, it usually goes into the local creeks. This is not okay. If you understand that it will kill your grass, just extend that out to what it will do to the creeks and surrounding areas.
BTW, just tried the mineral oil on the range hood and it worked! Thank you!!! I would have preferred to get it totally de-greased, but your point about it being easier to clean later if you leave a thin film of oil on it is good. There is no way to keep it from getting oily, so might as well make the oil clean. 7:37
Jennifer Grove. I appreciate people like you that take their time to write down the main points of the video and other important information that we shouldn't overlook. Thank you, Jennifer.
Exactly!!! She's a loose cannon on deck! I said as much above! And some of those chemicals are being misused, sndmcsn sffect her own kings and skin, as well as her family! Thank you for reminding people to be green... and safer.👍👏👏
In two days my mother is coming to stay with me for a month ... She lives Milan amd it's been years since we've seen each other.... I think the rest of the story of why I'm here, is self explanatory. 😂
Great video! In order to keep mold/ mildew from developing in shower take a squeegee and remove as much water as you can from the walls. Then take a fan and let it blow on the shower liner for at least 20 mins. Liner dries and the remaining moisture on the walls will dry!
I really like and appreciate your hints for a clean home. I wouldn’t, however, use toilet bowl cleaner on my grout. It could be toxic for pets or children. I use peroxide and baking soda., and rinse well. Much less toxic than all those chemicals.
Could you clarify one thing when sprinkling baking soda on your couch? Do you vacuum the baking soda off then wipe with cloth and homemade cleaner? Or do you spray the liquid cleaning cocktail over the sprinkling of baking soda? Thanks for any clarification on this point.
Thank you so much for all these awesome tips on how to clean the top of the stove and the burners you gave me a lot of awesome tips and ideas on how to do this the proper way instead of the hard way you showed us the easy way thank you so much for all these awesome cleaning tips I need everyone of them
Generally good tips that are worth trying out. For tip 40, "1/4 to 1/2 cup of TSP per gallon" (trisodium phosphate) was incorrectly presented as being "1/4 to 1/2 cup of teaspoon per gallon".
I am a complete neat freak and I love the smell of bleach. That said, you have to be careful because bleach can damage certain types of countertops and even finishes on your tub and toilet seat. Stainless steel cleaner is great but do not get it on glass, especially tinted and porcelain. Before you wipe down your couch make sure you can use water based cleaners on the fabric.
D William I hope you wear a face mask being that you enjoy the smell of bleach, the chlorine can be a bit harmful. see healthline.com symptoms of chlorine poising. #BECLEAN #BESAFE💖
