I absolutely love 4116. Ive had it on a cold steel tanto spike, peacemaker 2, and pro lite, and it is without a doubt better that 8cr13mov and aus 8. Its close in quality to bucks 420hc, just slightly less brittle, making it more durable for bushcraft and camp use, all while maintaining very high rust resistance (better than every other budget stainless steel) and ease of sharpening.

Is it better than aus10A ?

Whenever I need a steel check, this dude has it. Along with a laugh. Crikey. 🔪

It's also very corrosion-resistant. In fact, that's its biggest selling point for me, because of the high humidity and salt water exposure my knives face. That and the fact that it's usually cheap.

High praise indeed, lol. Seriously though this is valuable stuff, proving that proper sharpening is just as important as the steel and heat treat.

We've gone from mid 60's cuts on the 4116 Pro Lite to 140 on the Wraith to 1000 on Magnacut. Good grief. In the long run Magnacut won't be that expensive. I've already got one sample on a Hogue Dekka and it certainly wasn't priced in Chris Reeves territory., not even as expensive as most Demko AD20.5's.

Sounds crazy........4116 krupp is one of my favorites. My cold steel Finn Hawk tact an entire sheep without chipping or rolling of the edge. I stropped it when finished-immediately back to razor sharp

First time i ever comment on youtube. Dude i seriously enjoy your videos. Wish i had some way to support you. The data of your test is highly considered. Bro science rules haha. Have a nice day. And thanks for your effort.

Opinionated Grug. I would like to be able. Unfortunately i cant, without describing my situation in detail, for now i can only support him with my heart and positive thankfulness. I have never commented on any video. Eventhough i have been watching youtube atleast a decade or so. I have watched countless hours of various gear related videos. And this dude is one of the few i ever felt an honest respect, as he cuts his thousands of miles of sisal rope. With which i aswell had to work with on a job i had. Someone with experience and an imagination can be pretty sure thats quite an ordeal. Apart from this he has a family kids and all that. I can relate somehow. Anyway long story for a second ever comment on youtube. Thanks for mentioning the patreon thing, and certainly would if i could. Have a nice evening, take care.

You are crazy skilled. You could make plastic look like a super steel. Edge retention is not so important when your ability to sharpen are up to par.

If you get the chance and if the Tormek is capable it be interesting to know if there's a difference is the numbers between a freehand strop and a guided strop post sharpening.

Nice standard edge for testing !! I find ( user ) that my s30v is just expensive (hype ) 440c ! It doesn't hold and edge any better than 440c ! Or ganzo 44c holds an edge a little better !

Very impressive. Makes me wonder my makers are using shallower angles that perform so poorly.
@CedricAda
@CedricAda 6 лет назад
Andy Richardson safer to give to the masses, less likely to fail whilst providing enough initial sharpness to cut well enough. My suggestion, anyway

Do you put a micro bevel on these budget steel unleashed to the max blades? If you do what angle is that at? Or is regular cardboard tougher on edges than wood? I'm trying to figure out why I can't get some of these steels to take such extreme angles without failing after a foot or two of cardboard cutting (8cr13, 420hc, aus-8, at 16-20 degrees per side).
@CedricAda
@CedricAda 6 лет назад
maybe cardboard ismore intense on an edge? I’ll get some and check!
@BMikeAD
@BMikeAD 5 лет назад
Cardboard is usually more abrasive that wood yeah. Especially if it's the heavy duty stuff.

It's without a doubt the most stainless steel I've used. I put a wet CS Roachbelly away in a leather sheath and it was completely rust-free two weeks later. If you need stainlessness above all else, this is my recommendation
