on the dyno in belgium 2005, having problems with tire slipage, 340bhp was the limit with the 225,40,18 pirelli's, with the slicks it read 416bp@7000rpm@28psi
Ive seen what a built and turbod 2.5 subi can do in the sand!...I can only imagine what driving this thing on the street would be like!....when he hits full boost in hi gear...Hold the hell on!...Nice Ride man!
No, Type 4/914 motors are also aircooled. The Wasserboxer is a Vanagon motor, but it is a T1 design. If fact a lot of people used to take the wasserboxer case and modify it for use as an aircooled engine before aluminium engine case were available since they are also aluminum; as well as allowing for larger piston bores (larger than 100mm)
I know, i love classic VWs. I had a 1970 bug a while ago, was in the process of tricking it all out. But the place where i was storing it backed out, and wouldn't let me use their garage anymore. I had already taken it from a bucket of parts, to "daily driver" status. But i couldn't keep it at my place, So i had to get rid of it :-(
Its a wasserboxer, very similar to a T1 aircooled engine, just watercooled instead (single cam, pushrod). Im not sure what type of turbo they used on this engine though.
Yeah, that's what i thought :-) I'm so smart lol. But yeah, It's gotta be custom (at least the bell housing). I'm positive the stock VW gear train wouldn't be able to handle such power.
Box? If by that you mean trany (sorry i'm not fluent in VW lingo). I'm not sure on that one. I'm almost positive it's a custom bellhousing (or some sort of adapter plate), mounted to a VW trans case, with custom (stronger) gears though.
yes turbo sound efficent hear it spinning up at idol! if you could make it sound like an origanal bug what a sleeper. LOL kidding .OMG this is a dream ride.
Its the same case as what? Just to make it clear for everyone else, nothing Type 4 works on a Wasserboxer, Wasserboxers are watercooled Type 1 engines.
+Ari Whisson i would guess some where around $20,000, i bet the motor and turbo set up is around $10k, and the ECU can run from 5-8k, then that tranny can be anywhere from 2k -5k . and thats if you can do all this stuff yourself. have a shop do it for you... pry double the price.
