Have fun getting another in 2 years when it's burned out AF! Office work is about the worst thing you can do to these. Unless you seriously hamper your workflow to accommodate for OLED that thing won't last you very long. Not to mention it's wasted on office work anyway. Some decent LG IPS TV (most other brands are VA) would fit that work better and is cheaper 🤷‍♂️.

I think LG may have made a mistake in their launch pricing of the C2 42 inch. LG was probably banking on this being bought by a lot of people to be used as a computer monitor/gaming display, but now that the Alienware QD OLED monitor was announced for the same price, I feel most of those potential customers will be steered towards the Alienware if they're strictly looking for a monitor/gaming display. In my opinion the LG will be less optimized for these use cases than the Alienware and that 42 inch TV seems like a bad value for more "television oriented" used cases when the 48 inch exists for the same price and the 55 inch inch C2 for just a few hundred $ more. Considering these things, we might see considerable discounts for the 42 inch if the demand is less than what LG anticipated. Finger crossed.

Go to rtings and look at their calibration. They mention for Dolby vision to keep it default. The default brightness for Dolby vision is 100. I forget what they put the hdr content at, but you can see all their settings. Only thing I changed was putting she sharpness down to zero because Vincent mentions he puts it at zero no matter what the content is. Where rtings just mentions to keep everything default on vision. BFI is literally the feature I care most about being developed further going forward.
@leeboy2k1
@leeboy2k1 2 года назад
Indeed, 'sample and hold which reduces motion resolution really is a bug-bear for OLED, BFI ideally needs to be at least 240HZ
@constantingeorgiu268
@constantingeorgiu268 2 года назад
@@leeboy2k1 CX has 240hz BFI. This is why its such a shame it no longer does on C1
@buzz.b
@buzz.b 2 года назад
The main difference which hinders the perception of smoothness is the fact that current panels use sample and hold to display the entire frame at once which leads to an 'on'-'off' cycle (with BFI), consequently causing a choppyness in motion (and perceived flickering in brightness level). With CRT only a single pixel was illuminated at a time (the entire image being drawn line by line, but only ever a single pixel being on screen), and so producing a constant brightness. BFI is a start, but it would be better if the image was dithered to have black pixels (so every other pixel as in a checkerboard) for each frame, and alternate *multiple times per frame*, not simply acting between frames, (preferably a multiple of the input frame rate); this would keep a constant brightness. But definitely, higher refresh rates are required to improve motion. (I mentioned this in a different comment thread, but thought it would be useful here too).
@Aurora12488
@Aurora12488 2 года назад
@@buzz.b Your suggestion wouldn't work for the purposes of improving motion clarity. The issue with sample-and-hold is that your eye is smoothly tracking the on-screen object, but as your eye continues to move over the lifetime of a frame, the display is feeding it out-of-date information for a large portion of that lifetime. If we're keeping the render rate the same, dithering the black pixels without actually updating that out-of-date information being presented towards the end of the lifetime of the frame would simply cause a dimmer but still blurry image. Now, dithering for the purposes of actually rendering at a higher target framerate is a different matter (i.e. something like dithered BFI+checkerboard rendering at 2x the framerate), and would help motion clarity.
@buzz.b
@buzz.b 2 года назад
@@Aurora12488 The main point I was making was that BFI results in a fluctuation of brightness (due to the on-off cycle), which must be avoided if there is to be any improvement in motion clarity. The eye's (or visual cortex's) persistence of vision (responsible for perceiving motion from the rapid succession of still images) is affected by the brightness of the image. The purpose of the off phase is to accommodate for the pixel response time: if a new frame is delivered within that time, then this will affect the image; if the response time is sufficiently lower than the duration between frames this would not matter so much. The example of dithering the image was only a suggestion of how to accommodate for the pixel response time whilst maintaining a constant brightness across the entire image. Ideally, the display's refresh rate should be greater than the input source's frame rate; critically the eye's persistence of vision must not be allowed to fix on a static image (dithering operating at a refresh rate greater than the frame rate was a suggestion to break that).

Vincent were you able to take a look at the new game optimizer options? At CES I noticed LG had a video that looked as if they had an option to put an app on screen in picture in picture while in game mode much like Samsung has already where you can pull up a youtube video in the corner while playing I am wondering is this indeed what that was?
@ImaginaryWorld
@ImaginaryWorld 2 года назад
On the C1, the web browser can appear as picture-in-picture over any other video source. I have the sports updates feature turned on for my favourite teams and this initially shows a small overlay with score updates. Pressing 'more details' then launches the browser in a small window that overlays whatever you were previously watching. It's a nice little feature that I enjoy using, you can also move it around to different areas on the screen. Is this what you're expecting? What other apps in particular?

@@ImaginaryWorld I think @Tech With KG is referring to specifically when playing games on game mode that on the C1 it is not possible to have PIP with say youtube mirrored from your phone. Look up the whole debacle with Sony TVs (X900H/XH90 especially) and HDMI 2.1 - you probably won't consider the A90K anymore after that. Even if the A90K would finally get working HDMI Forum VRR (no Sony TV has it atm), I doubt it would get working Freesync or G-Sync as LG has it. Also, it might look nicer, but usability of WebOS is in practice way better then Sony's stuff.

@@Xirtamani thanks for the suggestion. I'm still of 2 minds about it and VRR/Freesync/GSync isn't a dealbreaker for me coz I'm happy playing on 60hz. Mainly I wanna see if Sony has implemented anything similar to LG's Adjust Logo Brightness feature. Other than that, both of these are supposed to have EVO panels even if they don't get as bright, but if any one of them can be unlocked (like last year's C1), then that would be another thing to consider.
@Xirtamani
@Xirtamani 2 года назад
@@da_stash But especially at 4k on the PC it can be quite hard or not even worth it to maintain constant 60hz and you lose everything above it. I mean when the 1% lows are at 60fps of most games their averages are at 80-90fps not to mention the 0,1% lows you'd still see as stutter. There's a reason why VRR just swept through the PC market and became a de-facto standard for PC gamers so quickly. For consoles it's less of a problem since their FPS tends to be more stable and dynamic render resolutions (and now checkerboard rendering as well) made em even more stable when they were introduced in the PS3/360-era and are almost a standard since the next console generation.

@geiers6013 2 года назад
I dont think that was the case here. It was just a preview from a compressed youtube video and unless he says what he sees we cannot trust this short look. Nevertheless you are right in general considering LG wrgb Oleds. The problem is they cannot just remove the white pixel, because then like half of the (peak) brightness brightness would go away and the hdr performance would be destroyed. Samsung appearently found a good way with their QD Oleds, but LG would either invent some new Oled tech or use something similar to QD Oled to get rid of the white subpixel unless the efficiency of their Oled pixels would jump considerably, which will not happen. They made everything they could to improve efficiency already. Nevertheless I think it was the right choice from LG to go with the white subpixel, because until today it is the best consumer TV technology and maybe QD Oled will change that over the next years.
@xm3405
@xm3405 2 года назад
@@geiers6013 The video maybe compressed but the difference is quite apparent side by side and shows that the G2 potentially has lower colour volume which is expected due to the higher peak brightness. By removing the WRGB subpixel I did mean switching to RGB OLEDs that are found in smaller size OLEDs. WRGB was created at a time when RGB OLEDs were very expensive to manufacture at larger sizes. True RGB subpixel layout also allows the use of real time image-sticking compensation allowing greater burn in resistance. As HDR becomes more popular and WRGBs get brighter there needs to be a solution as this technology is a large bottleneck for HDR colour accuracy.
@xm3405
@xm3405 2 года назад
@@GraveUypo I wouldn't call it "BS" as Vincent himself states higher peak brightness on WRGB OLEDs results in loss of colour saturation/volume so it is expected regardless of video comparisons. I have calibrated my monitor to the sRGB colourspace and Vincent grades his SDR videos to Rec 709 which uses the same primaries so the comparison should be fairly accurate. Regardless I do think it's best to wait for official reviews where they will measure colour volume.

I really hope OLED makers will someday standardize the use of surplus pixels for image movement burn-in prevention. -Right now I can't use the "Screen Move" feature because it stretches the image, you're not getting 1:1 pixel mapping anymore as soon as you enable "Screen Move".- EDIT: I don't know why I thought it was stretching the image, I think the menu changes size or something weird but I tested the C1 on a technical monitor testing website and it was the same with "Screen Move" on or off. It won't make much difference for me since I basically only play games with the HUD off, but if there's no image degradation then there's no reason not to use the "Screen Move" feature. I still think substantial pixel over-provisioning should be standard on OLED devices, it adds minimal cost but you'd significantly extend the life of the panel.

I found C2 with the movie Nope at 1:17:30 and The Whale (pretty much the whole movie) had lots of weird blurry scenes. They looked artificial. The fix is turn off Clarity, Smooth gradation (medium to low). Nope's probably due to the low bit rate of prime video at that scene where she was in the dark room with tunnel vision effect. Hope lG will have an update to fix scene like that

I had enabled setting do pixel cleaning once the TV is off from OLED protection menu since I bought it like a year ago. Would something wrong happened to my screen? I don't understand this option as it doesn't seems logic that this option once enabled stays unchanged. If its a risk to use it often it should be automatically cancelled from schedule after first process is done. Should I worried? I never used option do it now.

Yes, probably. But especially since the 42" models are targeted for PC monitor use, if Sony still has no proper 4k120hz 10bit with at least VRR it will not even be a competition. I cannot even describe how important VRR has become for both PC and even the newer Xbox consoles.
