its a Honda gx630 20.8hp. the only downfall of this set up was the noise. even though there was 4 blades the direct drive spins the blade tips so fast it will make your ears bleed. I just redid my entire set up with a reduction and 6 blades. more blades moving slower with more torque makes more push with less noise. once I get it wired and in the water I will make another video.

"more blades moving slower makes more push with less noise" - you may want to double check that. It's not always true.

boat was upgraded to 6 blades, 48" with redrive the next year. pushed a little harder, cost me another 2500 and was only slightly quieter. not sure it was worth it. this 42" setup pushed very hard just not in gravel like I did in the video. look at my other videos on monrore lake and see me push the mud flats.

Okay I will. I'm actually currently building a pusher fan for my boat. Not sure if it will work. I just know that to get max thrust you want to spin a low pitched prop really fast. Only downside is noise and you lose forward speed, but increasing the pitch let's it spin slower and increase speed, but you lose thrust. I'll definitely checkout your other videos!

+Reid Springer kinda sorta...... basically you want the biggest diameter possible to move the biggest volume of air. its better to turn a 3 blade that's 52" vs. a 42"6 blade. of course the bigger the diameter the more hp it requires. so to start with you need to buy the biggest hp vtwin you can afford. buy a reduction, then call a prop manufacturer like ultra prop, arrow prop, ivo, or even whirlwind. you are right the more blades, the wider the blades, the quieter they tend to be. quietest setup would be a 2:1 reduction and a huge diameter 56-63" keeping blade rpms down to 1800 or less. good luck

Yeah I have a 22 h.p. with a 3 blade 52" prop. I also just built my own reduction for about 150 bucks. I just need to finish putting everything together and mount it on my boat. Although, adding blades decreases the efficiency of the propeller and increases drag.

Where did you get your stick for steering and what was the item number for the steering and throttle from maco outdoors? I'm looking to do a similar set up. Thanks man and awesome vids and builds.

I built the stick bud. No clue even where I got the parts that was a boat I had 7yrs ago. Have not owned it for 4. Sorry I can't be much more than inspiration.

Just replied to a different t video if yours, and I meant to ask this question as it pertains to what I seen in this video. 1. Being that the fan is mounted high, the boat doesn't turn like it would say if powered by the outboard. It leans and pushes water. Now, let me ask. Say you were in the weeds bowfishing, or there just happened to be a stump. IF, the back side of the boat happened to hit that stump and it prevented it from moving, would a motor like you have create enough thrust to tip it over on its side? I ask this because we were discussing something we read a while back about a guy who's boat tipped over due to the height of the fan and thrust created. It also stated that there was no outboard and that the lack of weight contributed to it. Like I said, I read it on the internet so take that with a grain of salt. Next question. I run a lowe 1860 roughneck, not a slick bottom like you have. I'm sure you are familiar with the hulls on these. Would a hill like mine still perform in the weeds, reeds, cattails qith a pusherfan?

Yes it will still be fine. Just not ideal. The narrower the boat the more side thrust will roll the hull instead of push it. Fan height can negatively affect a setup but fans below 30hp probably will not have enough to tip like you're speaking of.. Roughneck hulls are only .100 thick and will recieve dents and damage fairly easy. As a rule of thumb a fan should always be mounted as far back and as low as possible. The only reason this fan was mounted so high was because of the tiller. But in regards to your statement about turning... a fan simply pushes but has 360⁰ maneuvering, making it unlike anything else you'd be able to come up with. It can push a hull sideways, in reverse, spin in one spot, or push straight. But most importantly gives you the ability to stop or change directions almost immediately. Its truly only held back by the drivers ability.

You can't go over obstacles and through vegetation with a troller. Fans don't run low on batteries either.

Thanks man, I have no choice but to do a push pull. If you have a BFC account could you post some pictures of the steering it's not to much trouble?

I'm all over bfc. there is 4 build threads on there of this boat. search "lost fan build".... I will find and bump for you.

@@DustinApple i comprehended it all. I have a small outboard tunnel hull for summertime creeks and mini airboat for negative tides. Never thought it would be a good idea to have both.
@DustinApple

@@jayyep6974 we don't have wide open spaces in the midwest. Outboard sips fuel for long runs, Fan goes where everything less than a Airboat can't & has reverse & will walk sideways. There's no comparison.
