NOTE: Just because I've taken on an allotment doesn't mean that any other strand will stop, they will all continue such as the 'Living Alone', walking, cycling and general at home chit-chat videos.

Sean , I would leave the knotweed alone. It cannot be removed unless it is sent to a special site by authorised contractors. It is easily spread by the smallest root and the roots can go down many feet. If the site us council owned report it to them and they will come and treat it is the autumn with a special chemical treatment. ,,£30 ,per year us very good it's four times that in Cardiff. Good luck my plot was in a similar state took me two years to clear it ...enjoy.

We rented an allotment up in York in the early 80's..site unseen as we didn't know better but need to provide for our family. Unfortunately it was covered in bindweed. I had a serious smile at "it will be Christmas before we can fart" but completely lost it with the "frog spawn" description of soaked chia seeds. Actually , smiling started when y you said you were going to soak the seeds overnight as i have done this once myself and knew what an inedible mess you were due to get, but chia seeds are great nutrition boosters and the swelling they do can keep you feeling full for hours, Try sprinkling about a tablespoon dry onto your cereal. Adds a nice crunchy texture and all the swelling goes on in your stomach instead. Still "frog spawn" but you don't have to see it. From PA in the US, a longtime fan here cheering you on in your pursuit of a healthy lifestyle. And success with the new plot! I am 80 and still gardening avidly by fully embracing your philosophy of "do a little and do it often". Life changing advice for me. Thank you for just being you and sharing that sweet self with all of us out here.

Hello Sean, I’m finally able to start to catch up on your videos from my long month trip from California to Florida on the Atlantic side. My um passed at 97 end of Feb. since I don’t like to fly, my brother came and got me. We had a good trip to his home, and back just be for Mother’s Day. Losing your last parent is hard, tears, laughter, the process goes on. It’s a wonderful plot, the bite is beautiful. I like the layered or terraced garden. It got so much potential and you’ll do a beautiful job of making it your own. I worked in my small courtyard this morning and gardening soothes the soul and brings peace. I’m going to look forward to seeing what you do in your plot. After you get your shed, will you have electricity? Imagine tea in the afternoon or a coffee watching the sunset… perfection ❤❤❤

I'm so excited for you, such a wonderful blank page to work with!!! We're currently battling Oregon's tenacious brambles/blackberries that took over a good portion of our garden last Fall. The Japanese Knotweed...we eat those young shoots!!! Free food that can be harvested over and over!!! Eventually the root exhausts itself and quits producing. The same with brambles, keep cutting the young shoots back and eventually the root has nothing more to give. Those young shoots, dried, make a lovely tea! Good luck! Looking forward to your very rewarding garden adventure!!

Your question on what we do at Easter. Well I went to our sunrise church service down on the beach near Bournemouth. Sadly it was very windy and no sun rising it was too overcast. We have had some stunning ones in the past. Then I cooked up bacon for everyone that went. Your plot looked like ours when we first took on one years ago. Took quite a while to clear all the grass and rubbish and even though we didnt get it till early may we still managed to have some good crops. A nice project for you. Stunning position

Could you use some of the materials at the allotment to make a small cold frame even as a starter untill you get a greenhouse it would be great to keep young plants in untill the ground is ready? We blitz brown & golden flaxseeds in a blender to break the shell and mix them with chia, we store the mix in the fridge in a plastic tub. Every morning we sprinkle them on shredded wheat, muesli or porridge. Minimal faff. My ‘life’s too short’ list is definitely growing.😂by the time we’ve added milk to the cereal & had a couple of coffees, that’s more than enough liquid.

Rolled oats are not raw. They've been steamed so they get soft and then rolled flat. Look up Rolled Oats on Wikipedia. I had cheese and three hard boiled eggs for breakfast. I've got work to do out at the allotment. Oats and fruit won't fill my gas tank. Carbs + fatty liver = deadly combo.

Plot looks good, great view. Looks like a lot of wood which can be salvaged for no dig beds, may be enough to build your own shed. As it’s on 4 levels I would concentrate on one level at a time, the bottom level does not look as though it would take a lot of work to knock it into shape. Do get a helmet for when you are riding your bike, safety first.

I love it Sean! OK it's not very spiffy looking right now, but with the eye of faith, and with support to control the dreaded Japanese knotweed, I know you'll make it beautiful and full of good eating. The view is spectacular. As you say, the secret is just to start in one corner and go steadily, not too much at once. Here's my two pennyworth on what I love to grow, and that saves us a bunch of money: asparagus, sugar peas, mangetout, beetroot, raspberries, all kinds of weird brassicas, rhubarb, gooseberries, French and runner beans, LEEKS! (the best for us are Bleu de Solaise). I left out the tomatoes because I know you don't like them. I have to admit I've thrown in the towel with potatoes and carrots, never had a lot of success with them. I love having a go with things I've never tried before: this year it's couve tronchuda and minestra nera, I hope they're as good to eat as they are hard to pronounce.... Happy growing x 😀

Allotment, Yikes! Breakfast, I make a big dish of cooking apples, oats, muesli , mixed cinnamon powder, sweetener, add water & bake. Then I microwave portions everyday as I like a hot brekkie with some LF natural yogurt. Easy , cheap & healthy.

Glad to hear you also hated chia, I thought it was just me😀. As an alternative, I made myself a breakfast smoothie with banana and berries, skim milk, handful of oats, a tablespoon of ground almonds and a couple of teaspoons of powdered fibre. Made losing weight pleasant. Lost many kilos, filling up with non-processed carbs.

it's a good allotment, messy but there looks to be a few useful items left there , even the pallet fence that just needs straightening; i can see a nice flat area with a small table & chairs up in the top corner over looking the rest, eyeing off your progress :)) small steps, you might even find with this project you'll lose a bit of weight, that will be a bonus! looking forward to seeing your work on the allotment, no matter how small an area you start; will you be writing out some kind of plan? i'd see what's left on the plot, you might find enough to build a small shed. too much chia is not every ones cup of tea, mixed with another cereal is much nicer, my daughter introduced me to Quinoa, cooks similar to oats, only 1/2 - 1tsp of chia seeds, much nicer, if it's organic chia seeds you can grow it, it's a lovely salvia plant changing a diet is hard, i tend to introduce new things into the old & gradually wean of what i'm not supposed to eat, it's a little easier than going cold turkey ... good luck great video, thanx for sharing

Best of luck with the plot. A good bit of work needed to get it tidy and productive. But as you say a little often is the way too go.

Hello Sean, Chia pudding is good. Its chia, milk (almind is fine), fruit, and sweetener what ever you like.. Chia seed is full if protein. I think a tbsp has 170 calories. You ask what we were having for breakfast, my usual is bullet coffee. My recipe-22 oz fresh brewed coffee, 2 tbsp grass feed butter (the lovely Irish or an orgsnic one), touch of sea salt, touch of cinnamon, touch of stevia, and 2tbsp heavy cream I follow an intermittent faating program. The fat keeps me full until noon or 1pm when I have next meal which is left ovets or breaskfast omellet and sauaga. Coffee folliowed by ice water. Probably I drink half s gallon a day. Happy you wrre able to get your plot. I can tell you are going to enjoy it ! 😊

I’ve just started intermittent fasting. So nothing but water from evening meal around 8pm until 12 noon. Today I drank 3ltr water and had a whole net of tangerines My evening meal will be a whole lettuce, shavings of carrots, chopped tomatoes, half a cucumber, a few celery sticks, sliced bell peppers, asparagus.. sprinkle of ground pumpkin, sunflower seeds, nuts.. make wraps from the romaine lettuce leaves..

Sean you will need that freezer. And a dehydrator wouldn't be a bad idea. They are not very expensive. Enjoy watching you from New Zealand.

That allotment is oozing with prmise! You should be so lucky to have that. For starters don't buy a garden shed. If nothing else there is more than enough material lying around to make several cold frames. There is adequate good wood and many abandonned windows with intact glass. All on the ground waiting for you to pick it up!!! If you need to, google how to make garden sheds and cold frames from scrap wood and left over scraps from building sites locally which would otherwise go to a rubbish tip. YOU use them and you wil be so glad you did. You might have enough leftovers to make a small tool shed also. Once you have launched into that you will find yourself thinking "I don;'t need a 600 pound garden shed when I can make it easily for half that. And design it exactly for your own needs. All you need is a hammer and nails and some effort. Go for it, do it.

You eat your oats almost the same way I do, oats uncooked, blueberries, raspberries, almond milk etc. Your plot has all kinds of possibilities, and it will be fun to watch what you do with it.

I use about half a cup of rolled oats mixed with a tablespoon or so of chia seeds and add milk. Leave it overnight in the frig. I didn't find that too bad. I added fruit when I ate it. Hi from Australia
