You put a lot of effort into these videos! Thank you! It's crazy to see what a master is capable of. I'm still over here struggling with my first spools in an Abus 55/40. This is inspiring to watch, though!
I learned what a 'trampoline' pin is 🙂 Comfort and feel is an individual thing I guess, but one should not make definitive statements until they actually try something, because looks can sometimes be deceiving. I'm sure I'd feel the rivet but it probably wouldn't bother me though it might bother others. Kudos for actually test-driving this before forming final opinions, it does seem to be good for what it is 👍
Glad you learned something. Showing off more uncommon locks and what can be done with just some hooks may be something I keep doing as I get into the other belts.
I haven't touched a Riv Pick but can see how better it may be than my Mad Bob's jackknife or similar. Even then, using the modified pen grip technique as you do prevents any of that slack and provides a stable pick tip.
Truly epic bit of picking and gutting, I enjoyed every single second 👏👏👏 This is a brilliant series. Cheers and all the very best to you and yours mate 👍🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻
I think it's really awesome that you are doing these videos. There has been a lot of people bashing the Covert companion on reddit. I'm sure you saw the discussions lol
Yeah, I saw the discussions and that was why I decided to give this a go. I’ll still stand behind saying the riv-pick is better to pick with than the pistol grip of the CC but the riv-pick is a really well done tool and and people who haven’t tried it won’t believe how good it is until they do.
It’d probably blow up their sku numbers but man, this would probably be so much better if they had a version with 4 hooks and .15-.19 thickness. Wonder if its possible to remove/replace the rivet or if thats a bad idea.
Ever since getting my Echelon set, I've found very little need to use the original .025 tools from my Genesis set anymore. Even a version of the Riv Pick that's the same as the original, except in .020, would be fantastic!
I used a very small drop of penetrating oil on mine. It definitely needs something or it’ll get too stiff. It just needs to be around .018 - .020 and all hooks.
Well done on this. Do you think that something paracentric like a DOM Plura would be pickable considering the 25thou pick thickness? I'd be unsure given the warding even though the holes make 20thou or so much easier to pick through.
According to Sandman’s review he stated these are .023 instead of .025. I sold my plura and sigma a while back but I’d be surprised even at .023 if it would work since .018-.019 is a comfortable working room size thickness for plura. I was able to pick my evva dpi padlock with it.
I feel like a lot of the people who make those stupid comments you're addressing just like to hate on Covert Instruments and a mere mention of the brand's name gives them a coronary, and like you said they've probably never actually tried the tools. As someone whose only tools (for now) are from CI, I think I can safely say their arguments are completely unfounded LOL
Not every pick brand is for everyone, I get it. I don’t care if they like the company or not, just be factual and have an opinion based on actual experience. They really have a strong emotional reaction to a company but don’t want to admit that’s what it is. You don’t have to like the tools but making stuff up about them makes you look dumb to everyone who has used them and knows you’re full of it. This is the behavior to expect from extremely online people who need the validation of other extremely online people.
