Several types of 9V Li-ion batteries were tested. Some of them performed quite close to the specs, some quite far. One failed altogether.

I have purchased many EBL 9v batteries to use with wireless microphones for our church choir. Duracell 9v batteries are rated at about the same 600 mAh as these EBLs. I connected a computer cooling fan to the Duracell and measured the time it took for the fan to stop. Then I did the same with the EBL. It lasted virtually the same amount of time to discharge, so I concluded that they do deliver the mAh they claim. I did over 70 cycles of charge and discharge on the computer fan to try to ruin the battery. I got bored of trying. I marked the battery with a "T" for test to be able to recognize it among the other batteries we have. The thing is still holding its charge and we still use it regularly after 3 or 4 years of use. After my initial purchase I have done another two sets of purchases of EBL batteries and have no complains. The Ebay seller I purchase from is called photoadd, they have been prompt and reliable. Hope my comments help, God bless you all.

Ended up purchasing the EBL branded batteries, but could not find any source or info if they were protected or not so I took one apart. I can confirm the ones I got are protected, and the two polymer cells appear to be "genuine china" - branded with date code and manufacturer. They are labeled "SHJY 702335 600mAh 1605", and from my research I found its a company that acutally makes batteries for a living, and not rebranding other used or bad cells.

Thanks for sharing. I think it would be better to compare different battery with same discharge current (eg 120ma). Even for the same battery, using higher discharge current will give lower mAh rating, and the capacity they quote may test at much lower current level, as the load current for typical application seldom reach >100ma

Have you run any tests on the new USB chargeable 9v Lithium batteries, such as Okcell, Znter, and Lanvein ? I tried testing the Okcell, but found it was only 123 mA Hrs as opposed to the 800 mA Hrs stated capacity - a huge disappointment. Very clever design with the charge status LED's on the side, but only around 15% of rated capacity. Thanks, Colin

@colinrimmer3477
@colinrimmer3477 7 лет назад
FeedbackLoop Hi, I used an inline capacity meter and got consistent results with 3 different batteries. When charging from flat, the batteries absorbed around 750 mA Hrs, so they were never going to give full capacity, but 15% capacity was hugely disappointing. I will try testing one with my imax B6, just to see if it gives similar results.Cheers, Colin

@qwaqwa1960

In my experience, high-capacity ratings are either: A. Complete fiction, or, B. valid at lower discharge rates (high internal R). It'd be interesting to retest the "900mAH" unit at some fraction of the current you used... Though all of them would show some improvement at lower current.
@zephyrprime
@zephyrprime 5 лет назад
qwaqwa1960 fake batteries ratings are so common. It's safe to assume the 900mah batts are total frauds. Also, the highest capacity batteries are new models from big manufacturers so the fact that this is a no name manufacturer is just more evidence

@feedback-loop
@feedback-loop 5 лет назад
I have not looked at new batteries. Lifepo4 cells have lower voltage: about 3.2V nominal and 3.6V max charging. So with 3 cells (not 2 as in Li-poly) that would be 9.6V nominal and 10.8V max charging. Yes, that might work better with some equipment. I need to look at that some day. Thanks.

I have a mesa safe. MSL50 digital keypad. Why does it say not to use rechargeable batteries? I'm replacing duracell & energziers every month! Thanks
@feedback-loop
@feedback-loop 5 лет назад
I do not know for sure. Perhaps it does not like lower voltage. As I explained in the video, rechargeable lithium ion batteries are not really 9V, but 7.4V nominal, 8.4V when fully charged, and about 6V fully discharged. There should be no harm in trying except potentially wasting money on a rechargeable battery just to find that the safe indeed does not work with it very well or at all.
@Metalhead-4life
@Metalhead-4life 5 лет назад

If there was a real break through in lithium battery capacity the industry would have well adapted to it.That said, all Li batteries at the same size have about the same capacity. Real differences in capacity are mainly not there but marketing cheats can be seen quite frequently. So better always expect the capacity which the form factor dictates not what the sellers claim.

Hey, I really like the tests that you’ve done on the 9 V batteries! Would you be interested in conducting some test on recent USB-C rechargeable 9 V cells? I am very interested in seeing some data on the new 9 V that I see on Amazon. I do live sound, and in one of the 3 venues that I work in, we use Ten 9 V batteries weekly in Shure ULX handhelds and belt packs. I am considering purchasing a dozen 9 V rechargeables to replace the brick of pro cells that we burn through every Sunday 😳. Considering you have the equipment and the possible inclination, I would gladly pay/donate towards that research!
@feedback-loop
@feedback-loop Год назад
I did not test those USB-C batteries. I am a bit skeptical about the whole idea. The batteries I tested have two Li-ion cells and no converter. This means 8.4V fully charged and about 6V fully discharged. Perhaps the equipment will cut off before battery reaches 6V. The USB-C ones have one cell (4.2V charged, 3V discarged, but that is internal and irrelevant) and converter to a steady 9V. Advantages: not sure if USB-C charging is an advantage, but a bit easier than a dedicated charger. Steady 9V - full capacity available (sort of). Disadvantages: USB-C connector and converter take space, which could be used by larger cells. Converter is not 100% efficient (perhaps by far), therefore some losses. And in any case the Shure equipment will be confused, and the battery indicator will be of limited use. Perhaps worse with steady 9V. It will show full until it dies. I used the batteries I showed in the video with Shure ULX transmitters, and I am quite happy with that. The battery indicator is not entirely useless.
@sidneyclark4952
@sidneyclark4952 Год назад
@@feedback-loop The battery indicator being useless was the issue that I found with the two brands of USB-C 9 V that I had tried in the ULX handhelds - one brand indicated 1 bar until completely discharged while the other showed full charge until the very end. Both had considerable use time before dying, but the battery meter inaccuracy makes me hesitant to use them since multiple operators of varying levels of diligence would be using them. The ones that you are using seem to be a good option I think I might give them a try.

I purchased the EBL set from Amazon and they worked fine for a while. Now all 4 of the batteries are swollen and can't be used. I spent about $25 for the charger and 4 batteries, and got about 1 year of use of the 4 batteries in various devices like a couple digital Multimeters, a IR thermometer, etc. For $25 I could have purchased 16 alkaline 9V batteries and would probably still have a few of them left.
@feedback-loop
@feedback-loop Год назад
Hm... Li-ion EBL batteries? Mine work fine for 6 years since this video was made. And I think it is not quite fair to include the cost of the charger into this comparison.
@sadiedog5071
@sadiedog5071 Год назад
@@feedback-loop You can't use the cells if you can't charge them, and the charger came with the set of 4 cells. So I think it is a fair comparison. If I don't include the cost of the charger, then the comparison is even worse. At least I still have a working charger that is worthless if I don't purchase more of the EBL batteries. Why would I purchase more of these when alkaline batteries cost less to use and don't drain themselves dead.

Buying batteries online from China is definitely a no go. Sending things with electrical storage capabilities through the mail will probabily result in getting your item confiscated by security at airports and harbors. As an added kick in the ass some banks here will not allow charge backs to your local credit card account with funds coming from out of the country. So you pay for the item, don´t get it most of the time, then when aliexpress sends your money bank when you complain you bank wont refund it to you account.
