A rampage killer with a knife can kill a few. With a gun, dozens. With a jetliner, way more. What might future tech enable? In Part Two of our conversation, Naval and I discuss "The Ender."And how to preclude this monstrosity.
As a social worker, it's a BIT simplistic to say that people snap and go on mass shooting sprees because they weren't loved enough. That's borderline victim blaming, for one, and not super accurate, for another. It's kind of like the adults in Littleton telling us kids after the Columbine shootings that what caused that shooting was that the perpetrators' peers "didn't report suspicious behavior." (Yes, that is exactly what I was told as a middle schooler. And no, no adult ever told us what they meant by "suspicious behavior.") There needs to be way more nuance in the depression = potential mass shooter trope portrayed here.
