At least 45 people believed to be on their way to an Easter weekend church service have been killed after their bus veered off a bridge in the north of South Africa.
The driver of the bus reportedly lost control, causing it to plunge 50 metres off a bridge and catch fire.
The sole survivor from the crash is an 8-year-old, who was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The nationalities of the passengers are still being checked, however, local authorities have said the bus had a Botswana licence plate.

I am South African , and in our country people dont obey road rules. Many drivers also drive under the influence of liquor. Vey sad indeed. 😮😢

Very true. The useless minister is blaming the road, no mention of bad driver attitude and behavior as usual. People here speed, drink and drive, overtake where its unwarranted and are careless about the safety of other road users

The bus was from Botswana so the driver is probably also from Botswana and he maybe did not approach the bridge in a correct manner

The roads in South Africa are the most lawless system I've seen. No law enforcement and people drive like lunatics i.e. no respect for safety. NO SURPRISES HERE.

Lord we are heartbroken..this is painful..we are grateful to the SA govt and people for being strong for us Botswana..we are falling apart here but the south africans are keeping strong while handling this tragedy in their own bacground..

The design of the bridge exponentially increases the risk of an accident when a heavy vehicle fails to break speed. I have almost wiped out once on a downhill with a curve on a road I was not familiar with. Only when I entered the curve did I realize my speed (which was not high), was too great for the curve. Things get out of control very quickly at that point and can happen with the best driver. Very sad accident.
