I remember that I was 7 years old and was at school when it started my mom had to come get us out early it was crazy 😄 thanks for posting brought back some memories 😅
2:31 the editor that made everyone leave to see how everyone was doing was stupid. He was potentially putting their lives in danger! He should have been the one to go outside instead of them if he wanted the story so bad!
My mom myself and brother were traveling on the 58 east of Bakersfield. We were caught at the peak of the storm. We were slowly following a chp car when the winds started to pick up, the chp made a u turn and headed back towards Bakersfield, we followed. Just as we did a gust blew the glass out of the passenger side where i was sitting. I dove into the backseat of our 1975 thunderbird. My little brother thankfully had a small blanket and we covered ourselves. I was 10, my brother 5. I remember asking my mom if wed die, she didnt say anything but i couldn't even see her as it was impossible to open my eyes. We were chocking and truly felt wed die. Another gust blew out the back window. Now things had gotten worse. Felt like we had no chance,Approximately an hour later the National guard rescued us. They got my mom and brother first. I wasnt sure if they seen me, i actually felt i was doomed. Scariest moment ever. It was about 5 minutes maybe a little more and they returned to get me, felt like eternity. I was so thankful i literally still connect or remember that feeling of relief. We were taking to a church in Bakersfield. We ate spaghetti and were interviewed by the newspaper. We were talked about on the front page. My mom Billie Trichak myself Ken and brother Mike. My mom passed in 2020 but it was definitely the Scariest moment of our lives. The winds where our car was later recovered and totaled reached in excess of 170 mph. Im now 57 and can remember like yesterday.
The town of Arvin about 20 miles southeast of Bakersfield was the hardest hit. Lamont was next in line being about 6 miles northwest of Arvin. I lived in Lamont and it was an incredible experience to say the least!
