Babylon falling : 1977 Ford. Factory installed at Detroit dealer (Mesker) all mods were done there ie: front end beefed up, shocks replaced and other things to make everything fit properly. I’ve driven this truck for the 77k miles that is on it, never a problem. Just to old to have anymore fun with it. Also comes with a brand new short block still in the crate from Detroit.
I put a 6354 perkins in a f100 4x4 once, so I can relate to just how much work goes into that kind of project. Excellent job, makes me want to find DD453T now.
@@jasperdomacena6491 Not sure what your on about, but a 453 Pickup can average about 27 mpg unloaded, or 20 mpg with a 26ft 5th wheel camper loaded with supplies, which weighs approximetly those 5 tons your talking about.... I saw a video where a guy explained this. Not fast, but the Screamin' Jimmy will tow anything.... Also it will outlast all the other modern electronic stuff...... News flash, 300hp is a turbo upgrade away in a Jimmy .....
I’ll take the green truck in the back ground, is it available???!! Nice thanks BigAl California HAPPY Easter 🐇🐰🐣 that is the reason you can do what you do , saved or not , Iyall came from God in Jesus’s blood 🩸, amen oh yeah , nice thanks BigAl I love this 353 ol ford , good job , thanks, BigAl California.
just the t04 stock one. its the non silver one. but I believe the only difference between them in the exhaust housing. The turbo on any two stoke is mostly smoke control. it gave mine a bit more top end. Im building another 453 soon that should be 200hp non turbo easy.
Wayne64SS For the one that's in my pickup? Its my first vehicle I bought, so ill keep it till it rusts in half then ill put the motor in something else haha. Its my daily, tow rig and pretty much anything else I need to haul. I use the shit out of it.
tanner zeiler LOL no I agree there! I meant what are you planning on doing to the one you're building to get 200hp. Also curious as to how you ported the block on this one.
@@RJ1999x haha that's fuck all!!! Even my shitty duracrap has 650 000 km. 6.0 is a seriously shitty motor shouldn't have to do 1000 things to make something reliable
Difference is, that powersmoke can only be rebuilt a couple times. That Detroit probably has been rebuilt 5 times by now a can be rebuilt 5 more times. Not a lot of power, but indestructible.
Yeah I'm sure the neighbors love that. I like it. Piss them off, there you go buddy. One more thing the picture at 3:30 no engine in the Ford and it's still leaking oil.
Carlos Chavez yet the 460 “boat anchor” they pulled made more torque & hp than the detroit. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a GM guy & I love my 2stroke detroits. But these guys are going the wrong way. If the truck is too small to stick a 92 series in...you need a bigger truck.
@@ROTAXD I will not complain about someone keeping these 2smokers alive instead of letting it rot. It's stupid scapegoating to blame these "emissions" for anything more than giving the driver cancer. I hope these will still be driving when I'm old in a tesla with fake engine sounds.
Love how you did this the front flipping forward hood rocks. Obviously it was nessasary to put in such a power plant great video thumbs up thanks for sharing this wonderful experience with others.
Very cool. I'd be curious what this combo has for torque and power as you have setup. But even more curious is the mpg and what kind of payload you figure it can haul. I don't know what the operating RPM range you're running so I'm curious if you're making more than 20 mpg with no load. DD are just so cool sounding. Nice conversion!
What a great father son project! Thanks for posting, have a few Detroits and find them very interesting engines an engineering marvel really. Clever intake with no valves to worry about! They all run clean and do not smoke! No computer = small carbon foot print because you do not have to throw away and build another engine every few years.
I had a friend who had a 4-53 in a Ford pickup back in the 90's. He was a fireman in Long Beach CA. Did 25 MPH over the grapevine when he brought it home from Bakersfield empty. Did 25 MPH over the grapevine pulling his trailer and full of stuff. I don't think he kept it very long. Sure it had pulling power, but a 7.3L would out pull it, and was much quieter. Another friend has a 2-53 running a generator in his off grid home in the desert . Very loud engine. But reliable and strong!
Oh one other thing if you aren't already aware, you want to be running some kind of fuel lubricity adder to your fuel. EPA's low sulphur fuel was designed to have lower lubricating qualities to kill motors like these so you'd HAVE to buy a new piece of shit. Simplest solution? 100:1 walmart supertech 2 cycle oil additive.
Hey, awesome job on the engine swap and tiilt hood conversion! That truck turned out awesome, and it sounds like a pissed off animal. Im planning a swap like this in the near future for my 77F250. If you're still around Id like to pick your brain about what I need to be looking for in an engine.
Ayy. I'm working on a 6V53 in a (home made) short box, stepside one ton dually. Hoping to be on the road in a year. I'm planing to run a spider 5+4 as it's what I have. Your vids are "inspiration"!
Fuk if I was doing that shit in front of my house or even in my back yard.. fukn code compliance would fine the fuk out of my.. I wish I could work like that in my house.. badass bro.. shits bad fukn ass
Put this same engine model in a 1972 f-250 High Boy in 1983 with a 2 speed aux transmission that was direct and 30% over. Worked great. Wish that I still had it.
No it does more than that . The blower pushes fresh air into the motor and acts as a one way ck. valve . The dd has to have a blower to run , true the exhaust is scavenged but at the same time fresh air is pushed into the cyl. So the positive displacement blower ( i.e. 6 71 )feeds air into the motor. Adding a supercharger ( turbo ) to feed the blower . A dd has to have a blower to run ,not a turbo but you can add a turbo and they did . And no it did not stop there , then intercoolers and aftercoolers were added . So just scavenge exhaust is hardly correct but a poor answer at best. Ever wounder why the dd is the only 2smoke to have a common intake for all the cylinders or why there is a second set or rings below the wrist pin . This setup is why they piss oil like crazy due to the pressurized crankcase due to blow-by one of the few drawbacks to the design . They were among the best in there day but its now night and they role coal big time !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Need to back out the buffer screw, turn the low idle screen out. Start engine. If it doesn't idle in it's own turn in a quarter of a turn at a time until it runs on it's on. It will be hunting (revving up and down) when u find the point where it 650 rpms at the top of the hunt (highest rev while idling) set the jam nut on the low idle screw. Turn buffer screw in until there is no more the a 50 rpm difference in the hunt. Wamo bamo. Low idle set. Hold wide open Throttle and check high idle 2200 rpm is fine but dont be afraid to go to 2400
They resonate at 2400 or so that's where the sweet spot is unlike a cat it's much lower and b wash 3208 vs Detroit believe the Detroit run longer we ran piss out of one's in woods abused em bad never let us down
Love how when it shuts down u hear car alarms goin ape shit in the background... Bet ur neighbors love the screaming demon Detroit !!! Awesome build brother 👍
Just so everyone is on the same page, "454" = chevy 454 CI V8 gas engine. "453" = Detroit Diesel 4 cylinder, 53 CI per cylinder, (212 total CI) diesel engine.
Where did you get the intake manifold from? I have found a turbo for my engine but the only problem is that it’s a 453 natural, I’m not so sure what I’d have to do to make the turbo mounted and the right angle,
TriniRogue A little bit more work, but the v6 is harder on fuel and almost 3x as heavy as the gas motor. There is plenty up weight up there already with the 4cyl.
tanner zeiler Thanks for the info man, always appreciate some insight from the people that own and run these engines. btw that thing sounds amazing great job on it.
themotorfreak1 the 453 is a 4 banger. theres other ones too. one thing that helps when you look a detroits is the first number stand for the number of cylinders, then theres usually a letter to show the shape of the engine, then the numbers fallowing are the cubic inches per cylinder. example a 6v53 is a 6cyl v type engine with 53 cubic inches per cylinder. so its a 318ci engine. these 4-53Ts are popular for swaps
Shit like this is exactly why my neighbors hate me. Until their junk is broke, and they dont want to pay for it to get fixed at a shop. Then I'm their best friend. Funny how that works, huh?
I've seen this video half-a-dozen times and never dawned on me to make a tilt hood on my Dodge Dart I have a 5.9 12 valve twin turbo in my 66 Dart with the front end altered to make a Gasser aka Dieseler
A very good friend and coworker of mine put a 353 Detriot with a 5 speed spicer behind it. I drove it, it wasn't gutless and topped out around 65mph. He got 26 mpg without a load and 15 mpg over Snoqualmie Pass pulling a 26 ft. travel trailer. And it had that neat Detroit howl too.
