45407 - ECS Castleton - Carnforth - 10.4.24

Black Five No.45407 with an ECS working from Castle ton to Carnforth on 10th.April 2024. The move was to return coaches which had been on hire from West Coast to the East Lancs Railway as well as moving 45407 back to Carnforth in readiness for the 'Great Britain' which starts on Saturday.
The train is seen in very wet and windy conditions on the climb to Copy Pit near Clivager with a bonus shot of class 70 No.70809 working 6E44, the 10.05 Colas Ribble Rail to Haverton Total Colas to close the video

Thanks Idris, Did think at one point the rain might have not come on too heavy but just about got away with it, not too many raindrops obscured the view of the Five

Great video Austin, worth the wet weather, I called into Bury today for 4079 in similar weather. On a good day you can hear the loco for miles at your location. Regards James

Thanks James, I was going to the Lancs until I saw the move for 5407. Saw the last departure on the Ramsbottom webcam to see it's still got the middle cylinder leak!

Superb captures in such appalling conditions Austin, I remember travelling that route behind 'Oliver Cromwell' back in April 1968.

Thanks Bob, I do love the Copy Pit line and it's been quite a few years since there has been a train in this direction. Many more photo opportunities this way. I think the Copy Pit line was very popular for specials in the last days of steam and it must have been wonderful travelling behind Ollie

Spot on Austin, lousy weather for you unfortunately but what raindrops you got on your lens were nicely placed as to not hinder your view, a lovely sound from 45407 and thanks for braving the weather, cheers 👍

Thanks Nige, yes I was pleasantly surprised when I got home to see no raindrop had really obscured the view as it looked as though they had on the LCD screen when filming. The BBC forecast was light rain and a gentle breeze!

Great footage of 45407 working well on Copy Pit Austin. I was thinking about Copy Pit myself however after looking at your video I made a wise move not to with the rain coming down.

Thanks Steve, not hopeful for unassisted steam on the GB especially with the Bulleid but I'd love to be proved wrong

Nice Footage there Austin, off Mr Riley's Five climbing Copy Pit, shame about the weather but still you got plenty of steam coming out of the Black Five chimney.

Cheers Steve, I think I was very fortunate that no raindrops really obscured the loco as she approached. Looked like a short local train from the old days
