I like the choice of appearance for the tengu. A nose looking like a beak with eyes much like that of a falcon. Very much like how the tengu were described to be anthropomorphized birds of prey in Japanese folklore.
I like the message of “how do you tempt an honorable man?” By giving him an reason to do a good deed. It’s easy to tempt someone who for example has greed in their heart, but to test someone good you have to try to get them to fight their own good nature
We need a series with Qui-Gon and Keanu. I think Keanu would do perfect for Qui-Gon's first apprentice and it would give Keanu a chance to play a bad guy for a change.
I would love to see Keanu reeves in an expendables or Kingsman movie... In expendables as a member of Sylvester Stallone's team or a Kingsman movie as a member of a Canada based agency which is the equivalent of the eponymous agency of the Kingsman movie
Because they're not common, they're all very skilled. If they all died too fast during the illusion the dude wouldn't have been as tempted to draw his sword since everyone was already dead. It's why his men also had to "put up a fight" suggesting they can be saved if he intervenes quickly
It's like you can see him come to realize it's fake. At first he was SOOO close to drawing his blade, but then as they kept fighting it's like "Wait, didn't I just tell these guys NOT to draw their weapons? Why aren't they listening to me?? Wait a minute..." Beautiful little things here
I like how in this adaptation the Tengu don' actively attack the Ronin unless shown aggression first. That and I think their supernatural speed looks really cool
@@drafezard7315 yeah the real story is fair more awesome. "YOU tricked our lord to attack you thus breaking the oath he made to the Shogun, he took his life to spare ours... we 47 will disobey the Shoguns order for peace and become listed among the celebrated warriors in human history!"
I was prejudiced by negative reviews so I didn’t see this movie until today. If you haven’t seen it, please do. It isn’t bad at all. Perhaps it should be rereleased but dubbed in Japanese then subtitled in English. In Japanese language, the mystical qualities of the movie would be enhanced. It is more of a mythology than an action movie. It’s beautiful and made me shed tears in the end. Thank you, Keanu Reeves and all the cast and crew for taking a risk with this film.
No matter what you do.... Mika will never be yours in this life.... "Then I will got to my death and pray I find her in the next" This is one of his best lines bar none
Could have been much better, keep it realistic and true to the story...this is basically Hollywood white washed bullshit. Nothing against Keanu, have nothing but respect for him, but he shouldn't have taken this role.
@@AlexMkd1984 Well American English can be broken down into smaller regional variations such as New York English, Midland English, California English, etc. British English can also be broken down into several variations such as Anglo-Cornish, Welsh English. They are all far enough to be considered different by the linguistic community. That goes along with Australian English, Canadian English, Scottish English, Indian English, etc which all have their own regional variations. And we haven't even covered the pidgin/creole variants such as Hawaiian Pidgin English or Jamaican Patois which are still close enough to English to be mutually understood by English Speakers and still would fall under as a variant of English. Then you have older variants of English such Early Modern English, Middle English, Old English. Then you have attempts at linguistic purism such as Anglish, which is English with all non-Germanic influences removed. You also have a variant as an attempt at sophistication, such as High English. Saying English is English is like saying Austrian and Dutch are German or that Spanish and Italian are Latin.
@@BlackDiamond2718 I like him in the last samurai yes. That's where I first saw him. I liked him in the twilight samurai the most. The use of wakizashi sword play was interesting. Thanks for the reply!
they need more japanese folklore movies, that was tengu steel to this day they call it tengu only if it has been folded over 1000 times. the durability of it is astonishing and it does not dull.
"we need swords" Tengu: *looks at lone sword standing on its own* :Do it look like I'm going to use it? Take it, man!! What the hell is wrong with you? Duh!!!
This was the greatest moment throughout the entire movie. Yet this is also the greatest flaw of the movie. Why? Men full of ego, pride, selfishness, bitterness fear & hatred for those unlike themselves. Any man with these qualities could never pass the test due to his own misguided inner nature. Everything about Kai was perfect. Everything about The Japanese Warrior was flawed. Especially in this moment. The beginning of the movie sums up his inner nature toward Kai and all other non Japanese, whether they be human or divine beings. To hate another man so much simply for being born different. To hate him even more bcuz one of they’re own women has greater love for a foreigner bcuz his heart is pure. To always put on low that which is different bcuz they are less than internally. That is not a good man, that is not a good heart. These men had to overcome evil just to become somethin close to good. Keanu’s character represents the stat of my people (black folks). living a life at the bottom. Born as the object of obscene hatred & fear simply bcuz we were born with power spirit & soul far different from any other. It is not worth it to continue to live a life of self sacrifice, bcuz it is not a life worth living. To always have love for those who hate u and ur lineage. Going out of ones way to appease non black. I do not advocate for hate upon hate. But I also do not advocate to continue living in a way that is unacceptable to a group of people who are full of love. Keanu’s character is greater in every single way bcuz he chose to accept his forced lot in life & chose to see the good in those even when they were unworthy of the love & mercy he had for them. It is bcuz of his love for them.
Showing love to those that hate you is not self-sacrifice at all. In my opinion, when you live a life where you show love for those who hate you, you are simply choosing not to go to their level and hate them as they hate you. You could even say that to have a good heart means to refuse to hate those who hate you, to stop the constant cycle of hate on hate by showing love to those that hate you.
Well first off only Kai and Oishi is actually in the cave its their test not a test of the other 45 Ronin. This is Oishis character finally accepting Kai fully as he listens to him despite what he sees, remember Oishi has also seen Kai defeat the monster in the opening so despite his prejudice he knows his value, and spending a year in a pit gave him time to self reflect.
The thing here is that it uses both Hollywood and Japanese movie themed tension. While Kai was staring down the Tengu monk, meanwhile Sanada and his "men" were fighting a losing battle against the other Tengu. At the climax, it came to a Samurai showdown - both Kai and the Tengu Master moved once, and Kai was faster.
The movies ( John Wick, Matrix, Ronin 47, share a real common life theme. These movies are a way of expressing his grief for losing his wife. He wants us to know that he truly loves his wife and that he would do anything for her. He also wants us to share with us his pain. Please remember Keanu. Feel for him. Show him you care with your like.
Imagine Keanu reeves in an ensemble movie like the expendables movies and his character's backstory involves his character getting widowed following the death of his wife..
It's the same immortal dude, just different era in each movie. This movie is medieval time, in John Wick is modern time, in Cyberpunk is near-future and in The Matrix, it's the far future. There is a reason he is the Chosen One in the Matrix, you know. You can't just pick a random guy but a guy with thousands of years of badassery under his belt to save mankind.
I Wish they went deeper into the ways of the Tengu Monks that scene was like best sequence in this movie. I Wish they made an entire movie just on those Tengu monks that would be very interesting.
well im not sure if it follows the same ending as the japanese folk lore story, but yah. still a great movie and i shut off most movies after 25 minutes these days.
Keanu in his ancient past : Take the blade Kai, if u can reach it before me. Keanu in modern day : take the gun John, if u can pull the trigger before me.... And Keanu just did... It's how he surpassed death and live for thousands of years..... Epic
It was a huge bomb in Japan and the critics there hated it. They changed the story too much and they didn't like making the main protagonist half-western (which was done to add Keanu Reeves). Reeves was also not a big star in Japan at the time because it came out too many years after Matrix 3. Also suffered in comparison to The Last Samurai.
Don't get me a fool, everyone would like their love to keep going on and flourish, but the ending is the best! You should read more about the history of the old Japanese military and Samurais. Maybe then you'll understand.
This was a great movie, I dont care what people say, I believed he loved her enough to die...all the rest and Keane were honorable enough to to their duty until death
Reeves is not the best actor in the world but it dosent matter cause he is literally the realest actor on earth.he is one of us.and that makes him my fav actor
