The birds on the wires at 2:36 ... perfect photo/video ... and yet all the rest are too. oh, the herons in that storm. And oh what a nice poem at the end! 🙂
On a cold and grey winters day there is nothing greater than seeing the flash of a translucent blue dart past our Narrowboat of our local Kingfisher. X
Congratulations on the milestone Vanessa, your videos are a delight and a weekly ritual in my house! Plant-wise, a weeping willow is always close to my heart.
Thank you so much for your kind comment and for entering the competition! The weeping willows here are just starting to look more willowy now and decorating the canals again. Take care🦋🌻
Hello Vanessa - greetings from Poland. I'm too late for the competition, but my favourite bird here in Poland is the Bocian (pronounced Botchan) - the Stork and favourite animal, is the Dzik (proniunced Jeek) - Wild Boar. The Herons were brilliant - I've never seen a heronry before. The woodpecker drumming is superb. Ours are Green and by the way, no Grey Squirrels - they are all Red. When out this morning, Tina my dog and I saw our first Moose of the season. No camera with me - sorry. Thank you for a lovely video. The cruise was very relaxing too.
Stork!!!! How I would love to see stork!🤩 and then you bump into a moose! 🥰To top it, all of your squirrels are red!😍 What a beautiful country you love in, Michael, full of wonderful creatures! Thank you so much for your kind words about the vlog. Take care🦋🌻
Hi I love your programme combining canals and nature. I live in Cape Town South Africa. My favorite is the rabbit, I live in a complex and we have 2 tame rabbits who live freely in the gardens. Look forward to your next video.
It’s so lovely to look out for changes like that in a setting and such a pretty flower too. Thank you for entering the competition and watching the vlog. Take care.🦋🌻
Congrats Vanessa, It's so hard to pick my favorite for your fun drawing. Plant Prunus spinosa (aka Sloe) and Zypher the canine and Marsworth the swan are my favorite animals. Have a wonderful week!
Welcome to the party!🍾 This is a very quiet and calm party though.😂 I adore cats too😻 but sadly, Zephyr is absolutely petrified of them! The cat in your profile picture is beautiful. Thank you for commenting. Take care🦋🌻
Just found your vlogs and they are excellent. As a Townie now living in Cornwall my favourite plant is an echium. Never seen this giant plant before I came here.
How lucky you are to live in Cornwall; I love it there! Had to look the echium up and it is an impressive plant isn’t it? Thank you for your kind comment and for entering the competition. Take care🦋🌻
I live in Aylesbury but have never walked the canal nearby, your photos and video's just show me what I have been missing all these years on my own doorstep, thank you for sharing your journey in such a refreshing way, we had the hail here too, take care and I am looking forward to your next episode.
The Aylesbury Arm is such a beautiful stretch of the system. I’m sure it will make for a wonderful walk as the spring takes hold. I am so pleased that you are enjoying the vlogs and thank you so much for watching them. Take care🦋🌻
Love your vlogs and your love of nature. Even though the deer eat so many of my favorite plants, I love them. Their eyes and grace. I could stare at them for hours.
Our favourite is the Otter. We are privileged to have seen them on the Norfolk Broads. We are hoping to find them on the Canal network this year once we can get out on our narrowboat this after lockdown.
Thank you so much for your comment. I only discovered the word binkies recently and it is such a great word to describe the leaps of joy. Rabbits are wonderful to watch aren’t they? Take are🌻🦋
Good evening Vanessa, we had the storm too, and today we had hail, I could not tell you which plant or which animal I prefer, I love nature in its entirety, have a good week and stay in good health
I will never forget seeing 2 barn owls in mid air transferring the food one had caught between a gap of trees over a field at 2am caught in my headlights totally amazing..
I would never forget seeing something like that either! Moments like that are good for the soul aren’t they? Thank you for entering the competition and take care🦋🌻
@@themindfulnarrowboat Well...Joke now, but I believe that Narrowboater's like David John and Colin & Shaun Fox are celebrities now and I have the impression that they find it irritating. I would advise that you keep a fake beard and mustache handy as a Hollywood disguise and of course a sharpie for autographs.
Congratulations on reaching 1k subscribers Vanessa 👍. Another interesting vlog l never knew gorse smelt of 🥥 coconut some thing new I've learnt 🙂. What a difference a few weeks makes with nice sunny days watching nature come awake from its winter sleep. Thanks again hope u have a safe and enjoyable coming week 🙂xx💜. I almost forgot a kingfisher and May blossom
Thank you for entering the competition and for following my channel from the beginning. I shall try and film some more kingfishers and blossom for you next week. Take care🌻🦋
Hi i live In Finland which has lots of trees,In My own garden My favourite are the silver birches In summer, a visiter to our garden are a pair of bluejays summer and winter 🌻
Hello again! Let's hope this comment goes through, unlike the last couple. Lovely video, loved the herons, and thanks for introducing me to the concept of "heronry", something I had never heard of before. I knew and had seen pictures of stork nests in continental Europe, but heron nests were a new thing to me. Happy belated Mother's Day two year's hence! And favorite bird would be a pelican! You know, I've had an epiphany of sorts...I feel that I've been taking advantage of your good nature. You've been incredibly kind and thoughful in responding to every comment. Inviting you to do so across a two year plus gap is unfair of me. So this will be my last comment on any of your older vlogs. From now on I will simply like and give you a ❤until I catch up to the present. I've calculated that I have over 70 vlogs to get through. Not fair to make you feel like you need to respond to all that. I will of course be happily commenting on your newer vlogs...looking forward to todays later on. Best wishes, as always!
Hi Chris, it is always a pleasure to read and answer comments. You have been so thoughtful and kind in responding to each vlog and you have jogged some wonderful memories for me too. Thank you once again. Take care🌻🦋
I know this was a year ago, so I missed out, but I just had to compliment you for such a great idea for a giveaway! The journal itself would make one 'mindful' of you, but then to add that person's favorite flora or fauna in verse and drawing as well makes the gift a real treasure! You are a wonderful thinker.
That is such a kind and lovely comment, Lisa. I think, I’ll have another competition if I ever reach 10,000 subscribers. Have a wonderful rest of the week. Take care🦋🌻
Binge watching =-) 28c outside so just blobbing on board with you. 1000 subs this vlog now on 20,000 =-) I hope 2024 is a good year all round. take care =-)
Congrats Vanessa, but you talk about 1000 subscribers but it says 4.25K above. Hope the heron and her eggs were OK after the storm..and that YOU had a happy Mothers Day too...You just reminded me by showing that journal that I actually have 2 books (journals) by Clare Walker Leslie not sure if you know of this lady. She is American. One book, the oldest (I think is a first edition 1987 or maybe not) 'A Naturalist's Sketchbook - Pages from the seasons of a Year' its in black & white..or yellow and brown really on a lovely soft paper. The other (not quite as nice to my liking but more up to date in colour and with glossy pages) and smaller by half...'Drawn to Nature'. The first one is s similar to how you do your little pictures at the end of your vlogs..I have been a lover of this kind of thing for decades and thank you for continuing my enjoyment in all things 'great and small', to coin a phrase. Happy days :)..I meant to say congrats to in the last video for finally getting flying swans on film...yey...
I have just looked Clare Walker Leslie up and I will try and get a copy of one of her books on Amazon now. Thank you so much for sharing that with me. I recently borrowed my mother-in-laws copy of the Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady by Edith Holden which I absolutely adore. I think perhaps you should start a journal too, Jenny? Take care🦋🌻
@@themindfulnarrowboat I have done my own journals but moved on to more artist pursuits Vanessa, might start again but not very mobile these days. Mostly what I see now is from the car or my back yard which flows right on to a beautiful park in this pretty little town
Well done on your achievment with your vlog to get 1000 subscribers. Having seen several TERRIPINS basking on stones at the sides of the Coventry and North Oxford canals we would like to name these. They are not native and must have been released by somebody.
Thank you, Simon! I have heard about terrapins in the canals but have yet to see them! Thank you for watching and entering the competition. Take care🦋🌻
Red Kites so graceful and they seem to love windy days. As for a plant it has to be the Oak so long lived how much history has it seen? By the way when you get to Grafton Regis there are usually quite a number of Kites. It is also worth the walk from the bridge up the hill into the village it is almost like going back in history still with farms in the middle of the village. It has connections with Henry VIII.
I’m playing catch-up. That 1,000 subscribers 3 years ago.. did you ever think you’d get to over 30,000? It’s amazing to see how your channel has developed.
That is so kind of you. I really can't believe how the channel has grown. I have learnt so much along the way when it comes to filming and editing too, but I still have a long way to go. Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a super week. Take care 🦋🌻
Plant or animal that’s a hard one Animal would have to be Rupert my lab Plant would have to be rice or potato as they feed the world Flower would have to be checkers dahlia Have you seen a stalk yet, I saw on a video today that 50 breading pairs have been released into the countryside of southern England.
What great answers, Lewis. Thank you so much for entering the competition and for watching the vlogs. I would love to see a stork. When the herons fly up to their nests with twigs in their beaks and dangly legs, they really look like storks. Fingers crossed🤞that storks become common in our skies again. Take care🦋👍
Hi Vanessa, I have been enjoying your earlier vblogs and spotted a rather strange looking narrowboat conversion at 12.18 and wondering if you have any thoughts as to what has been done to it ? To me it appears that a ramp has been added to the front of the boat, if that's what has been done it would mean that part of the bow has been cut and removed, and a bulkhead added as there would be no point in adding a landing craft type ramp, with all the extra work involved if it does not give access to part of the narrowboat.
Hi Peter, looking back at that footage, it appears that an extension had been welded onto the boat. You see some unusual and unique things on the water sometimes. I’m glad you’re enjoying the earlier vlogs. Take care🦋🌻
@@themindfulnarrowboat Yes you could well be right, welding a flat bow on the front would allow the full width of the boat to be continued right up to the new bow that has been fitted, the shape of the bow would be unimportant I assume at the speed narrowboats travel. I would have thought it would have made a difference to the way the boat handles though, but there again I could be totally wrong. What you said about seeing unique things on the water is certainly true though.
Hi Donald, thank you so much for watching one of the old vlogs. I think that I filmed what happened after the storm rather than the storm itself. Sorry if you left the video feeling disappointed. Have a fabulous Friday and weekend ahead, take care🌻🦋
